Who new that some 11 years after the series started Wrong Turn 6 would come along to cement the franchise as the modern successor to Tobe Hopper’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yes the films started out (and some would say continued) as sub-par rip-offs of all the backwoods slashers that had come before it Wrong Turn 6: Last Resort (to give the film it’s complete title) builds on what has come before, adding much-needed story and mythos to a series that – in its last two entries – were little more than effects show pieces. Several fun events led up to the festival – including the "Dress My Mess" shopping extravaganza sponsored by local vintage clothing stores and a fabulous dinner for the filmmakers and festival peeps hosted by Mo Fitzgibbon.
When the big day finally arrived on Saturday, July 12, 2014, everyone was primed to check out Axelle Carolyn’s feature film debut (and the featured selection), Soulmate, at the historic Egyptian Theatre in the heart of Hollywood, CA.
In Gothic horror tradition, the story follows an emotionally fragile, recently widowed young woman named Audrey (Anna Walton) after she moves to the countryside to pause and reflect before getting her life back on track. When she realizes the cottage she’s renting is haunted,...

*spoiler alert.
Director: Patrick Dinhut.
Writer: Frank H. Woodward.
Cast: Velizar Binev, Sarah Brown and Andy Clemence.
Very rarely will one of SyFy’s Saturday night products truly entertain. The tale developed in Black Forest is an ominous one. Also, this film stitches in a bit of Guillermo del Toro’s style as well. Both films like to have most of the action take place at night and include that doubtful deunouemont.
Also, writer Frank Woodward certainly knows his lore about faeries (not fairies) and expands on it. The difference is not just in the spelling, but also in what they represent. While most people associate the Fae with Celtic tradition, namely in the UK, they are also known far and wide to include the Germanic world. After Woodward’s work in the extras found in the “Masters of Horror” DVD releases, he demonstrates how much he has learned.

Tired of seeing New York and Los Angeles get destroyed on film? Wish disaster movies could find a different metropolis to reduce to rubble? This weekend’s Swamp Volcano unleashes a lava storm on Miami. And then a month from now you can take a double-dip trip to the black forest of fairy tales in two back-to-back Syfy original premieres: Black Forest and Gretl: Witch Hunter.

February 25th will see Syfy getting in on the craze with a pair of unhappily ever afters making their world premieres as part of a Saturday night double feature.
First up at 7/6 Cst is Black Forest from director Patrick Dinhut (Dead & Deader) and screenwriter Frank H. Woodward (Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown).

"'Even a Man Who is Pure in Heart': Filmic Horror, Popular Religion and the Spectral Underside of History," an essay that appeared in the Journal of Religion and Popular Culture in 2005, piqued Michael Guillén's interest in its author, Mario DeGiglio-Bellemare, "a native Montrealer and 'monster kid' who teaches courses on genre cinema and monsters in the Humanities department of John Abbott College." So they met up a few weeks ago at the Fantasia International Film Festival and Michael's transcription of their conversation — touching on national identities, filmmakers who straddle the high and the low, "the knowledge systems of ordinary people" and more — is one of the week's best reads, which is why I wanted to point it out right at the top of this little roundup of horror-related items.

Our long national nightmare is over. Finally, last week, the wait has ended. That's right, fans, hosts Staci Layne Wilson and Matt Raub are back with season 2 episode 2 of their internet series This Week In Horror.
Earlier this summer they gave us a sneak peek season opener starring Cassandra Peterson of Elvira fame, but now they're back (hopefully on a more regular basis) and bringing us an episode devoted to the unsung heroes of Hollywood: The Men In Suits.
This week go "Behind the Masks" with guests Doug Jones, Douglas Tait, and director Frank H. Woodward. Remember, this is about as close to a horrorcentric "Inside the Actor's Studio" as we're going to get, so don't miss it.
Check out the episode below and make sure to bookmark This Week in Horror on YouTube and follow them on Twitter.

Directors Mark Henry and Frank H. Woodward have been at work for some time on a documentary called The Splat Pack , a term used to describe the spate of button-pushing and gore-relishing directors that have emerged over the last decade. And now it looks like the fruits of their efforts are about to be put on display. Splat Pack - an analysis of horror in the 21st century (so far) - features interviews with Eli Roth, Greg McLean, Alex Aja, Darren Lynn Bousman and more. (No James Wan? Not surprised, he doesn't dig the "splat pack" banner he's been placed under, I hear.) Keep Wyrdstuff.com bookmarked because that's where the doc will debut and be available to download.
