Intro: It’s a story we’ve all heard before. A group of friends stray off the beaten path and end up having to fight for their lives. This has served as the set-up for many classic horror films and thrillers. Back in the early ‘90s, director Stephen Hopkins used it as the set-up for an action movie that has an awesome cast. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Dorff play the friends fighting to survive. Denis Leary is the leader of the criminal gang out for their blood. Unfortunately, not a lot of people went to see the movie when it was released… but they did make the soundtrack a hit. The movie is called Judgment Night, and it’s time for it to be Revisited.

James Cameron delivered a masterclass in Paris on Thursday night following a sold-out screening of his 1984 breakout “The Terminator.” With the title so fresh in his mind, the filmmaker spent much of the session sharing stories from the project’s improbable making of.
For one thing, what the production lacked in financial resources it made up for in pre-production time — eight months, to be exact, as the team waited for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s schedule to clear.
“I figured we didn’t have the money for a designer, and I could draw, so what the hell,” Cameron recalled. “I drew everything, and storyboarded the film very, very meticulously.”
The masterclass kicked off a new exhibition at Paris’ Cinematheque Française that positions Cameron as a graphic artist who draws inspiration from his own subconscious. Running until January 2025, “The Art of James Cameron” showcases more then 300 paintings, etchings and production designs pulled from Cameron’s private collection,...

You can check it out in the embed above.

Killer cyborgs, A-list megastars, groundbreaking visual effects And a kick-ass soundtrack! It can mean only one thing. Yes, that’s right, good friends of JoBlo, uber director James Cameron is back to show us exactly how to follow up one of the biggest smash hits of your career with a sequel that had to surpass the expectations of even the most hardcore fan of the original movie, and also show the world how to revolutionize modern VFX…Again. Cameron had already wowed audiences with The Terminator back in 1984 and had proven that he could create impressive sequels to existing sci-fi franchises with the action-heavy Aliens in 1986. He’d also made great strides with visual effects in 1989’s The Abyss so could his original vision of having a liquid terminator in the franchise really work?

“The Exorcist” is, rightfully, heralded as one of the greatest, scariest films of all time. And in the 50 years since its 1973 release, filmmakers have tried, repeatedly, to recapture the magic that made the original film so special, to mixed results.
The latest attempt is “The Exorcist: Believer,” from director David Gordon Green, which returns Ellen Burstyn to the franchise for the first time since 1973 and focuses on a new phenomenon – synchronized possession. It’s meant to be the first of a new trilogy of films. And its release (it’ll be on PVOD on October 24) is enough to have us look back at the entire franchise thus far. Which films are scary good and which are ones that you’d rather spider-walk down the stairs to get away from? Read on to find out.

A few years ago, director Oliver Harper made a documentary called In Search of the Last Action Heroes, which was described as “a comprehensive retrospective of the ’80s and ’90s action film genre.” One of the people interviewed for that documentary was screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who was a major contributor to the action genre in those decades, working on the likes of 48 Hrs., Commando, The Running Man, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Hudson Hawk, Ricochet, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Street Fighter, among others… with one of the others being the much-maligned Sylvester Stallone comic book movie Judge Dredd. In a moment that didn’t make it into the final cut of In Search of the Last Action Heroes, de Souza discussed the issues that Judge Dredd ran into, including bad marketing and a struggle to secure an R rating. Harper has been kind enough to share that deleted scene online,...

1995 – it was the best of times; it was the worst of times. While the peak era of action movies was beginning to wane, multiplexes were still packed with decent action films, and icons like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were still packing them in. Meanwhile, second-tier action heroes like Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme still tried to punch their way onto the A-list. It would never quite happen for those two, with both starring in direct-to-video movies by the decade’s end. But 1995 was arguably the last year in the nineties when Stallone and Schwarzenegger were at the top of their game. Schwarzenegger’s career would only really falter at the end of the decade, with him never really able to recapture his former box office glory following his run as the Governor of California. Stallone would be luckier, with him able to reinvent himself in the mid-2000s...

William Friedkin's "The Exorcist" is one of the best horror movies ever made, which makes it by extension one of the best movies ever made at all. But it's not just a powerful dramatic exploration of faith in an increasingly secular society, and it's not just a terrifically scary motion picture that stunned audiences; it was also a gigantic mega-blockbuster by any reasonable measure. If you adjust for inflation to determine how much "The Exorcist" would have made theatrically at today's ticket prices, you'll find it would have made over a billion dollars domestically, ranking it the ninth-highest-grossing movie in the history of the American box office. That's more than "Avengers: Endgame" or "Avatar."
So regardless of how excellent the original film was, "The Exorcist" was still a huge financial success, and we all know what happens to huge financial successes -- they get sequels. And "The Exorcist" had some very strange sequels.

Edward R. Pressman, the veteran producer behind Wall Street and frequent Oliver Stone collaborator, has died. He was 79.
The prolific producer passed away peacefully Tuesday night at a Los Angeles hospital surrounded by his loved ones, including members of his family and his company, his son and Pressman Film’s vp of production Sam told The Hollywood Reporter.
“He was working up until the last moment [and] insisted on speaking with London partners on the night before his passing,” he added in a statement. “We have a lot of work to do to honor him and bring to fruition the many projects he put himself into.”
The independent producer, known for financing films he loved and those other studios wouldn’t touch, helped bring close to 100 movies to the big screen. That includes The Crow, Conan the Barbarian, American Psycho, Bad Lieutenant and Plenty. He was also known for frequently working...

The 1990s were awash in science fiction films trying to predict the future, likely inspired by the upcoming turn of the millennium. Fears of technology, capitalism, citizen uprisings, and more were taken to their most radical extremes and put on the big screen in movies like "Demolition Man," "Strange Days," "12 Monkeys," "Total Recall," "Johnny Mnemonic," and more. Each film had its own version of the future, though many of them shared similar cyberpunk aesthetics that were popular at the time.
One of the most ridiculous movies of the era was 1995's "Judge Dredd," based on the 2000Ad comic series about a distant dystopian future where the only law enforcement are Judges, who serve as police, judge, jury, and executioner all rolled into one. While the comic series would also be adapted into the 2012 cult favorite film "Dredd," starring Karl Urban, the 1995 film is an oft-forgotten misfire with some big...

When the news dropped about Warner Bros. deciding to shelve "Batgirl," "Scoob!: Holiday Haunt," and potentially other projects being produced for HBO Max, it struck a lot of us as a fairly unprecedented move. For "Batgirl" in particular, the size of the budget (a reported 90 million) and its connection to a popular franchise make it an even more startling that this decision has happened. The implications of using productions that artists spend years working on as mere tax loophole fodder sets a fairly depressing precedent for how studios can operate in the future.
However, this is not the first time a nearly completed film has been shelved by a studio. It's not even the first one shelved by Warner Bros. since the turn of the 21st Century. In fact, one shelved production also happened to connect to a very well-known franchise, and next year, we will see a new entry...

It’s easy to feel like there’s nothing left to watch, after getting caught up on everything during the holidays (and something of a deficit when it comes new movies and television shows). But fear not! There are still plenty of certifiable classics and catalog favorites to dip into, for the first or hundredth time.
Below, we’ve assembled a list of the best new movies on Amazon Prime Video in January 2022. Everything from time travel thrillers to dueling magicians to voodoo on the bayou are all represented. There’s certainly something for everybody!

Still looking sharp 26 years since its premiere, James Cameron’s picture completely masters the mass audience thriller while pushing the effects envelope far beyond the industry’s horizon. Technically slick, conceptually brutal, Cameron’s style is what still prevails in action-based Sci-Fi. All this, and Ah-nold too.

Skynet is feeling festive – or as festive as a sentient supercomputer can be.
That’s because the Powers That Be are plotting a 4K re-release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, James Cameron’s timeless classic that originally pummeled its way into theaters all the way back in ’91. And even now, almost 30 years after its arrival, T2 is still widely considered to be one of the best sequels ever made.
So there’s a real sense of legacy coursing through the digital veins of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and on December 4th (December 26th for those in the States), sci-fi fans will be able to go up close and personal with Cameron’s magnum opus with a never-before-seen documentary. Entitled T2: Reprogramming the Terminator, the 55-minute video essay includes interviews with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick (T-1000) and James Cameron himself, who showers praise on the visionary work of Industrial Light & Magic.

To this day, there are a handful of iconic roles associated with the immortal Arnold Schwarzenegger, the most recognizable (arguably) of those being the T-800. Having successfully catapulted the bodybuilder-turned-actor’s career into the stratosphere with 1984’s The Terminator, director James Cameron came back for another round in 1991 with Terminator 2: Judgement Day, sparking endless debate amongst the geek community in the time since as to which film is superior. Personally, I lean toward the original, but appreciate the merits of both.
As time has gone by, several sequels by way of other directors have debuted in cinemas, none of which garnered the acclaim of the first two installments. In fact, both Salvation and Genesys intended on kickstarting new multi-picture arcs, each of which obviously failed to do so. Furthermore, things didn’t go so well on the small screen, with The Sarah Connor Chronicles being cancelled by Fox after only two seasons.

MaryAnn’s quick take… An action masterpiece newly remastered in gorgeous 4K (and rejiggered for superfluous 3D) reveals how fresh it remains not only technically but thematically. I’m “biast” (pro): love this movie, have seen it a dozen times at least
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
August 29th? It’s Judgment Day! Or at least it would have been, 20 years ago in 1997, if not for the brave actions of mental patient Sarah Connor, her juvenile delinquent son John, and a reprogrammed T-800 killing machine sent back from the future, who didn’t even have a name, poor thing. To commemorate their selfless work, Terminator 2: Judgment Day has been newly remastered in gorgeous 4K, and also rejiggered for 3D, which is entirely superfluous: it adds nothing to the film, but at least it doesn’t detract from it...

To commemorate their selfless work, Terminator 2: Judgment Day has been newly remastered in gorgeous 4K, and also rejiggered for 3D, which is entirely superfluous: it adds nothing to the film, but at least it doesn’t detract from it...

Terminator 2: Judgment Day is one of the most revered sci-fi films of the past 30 years, and if you ask one of the people most responsible for it, it sounds like it was no sweat.
Screenwriter William Wisher worked on 1984's The Terminator, receiving an additional dialogue credit (but not a screenwriting credit). When it came time for the sequel, he and writer-director James Cameron sat in a room at Cameron's home with a single computer, taking turns typing as they pounded out a treatment that came in at about 40-50 pages.

When his daughter complains about their home’s dodgy Internet connection, high-flying executive Mike Regan (Pierce Brosnan) brings in I.T. guy Ed (James Frecheville). Overestimating the breadth of their friendship – by assuming that they have one – the spurned tech guy turns stalker, using his computer skills to infiltrate and attack the family on every level. They’re gonna need a better firewall.
It may have a grizzled, craggy former James Bond as the lead, but this is no Taken riff. In spite of its ultra high-tech trappings, I.T. is a remarkably old-fashioned stalker movie, reminiscent of the likes of Prey, Pacific Heights, One Hour Photo or, um, The Cable Guy. Before he was working with hundred-million-dollar budgets — hell, before he was even making that “Piranha” sequel — James Cameron was an aspiring filmmaker like any other. He first announced himself to the world with 1978’s “Xenogenesis,” a 12-minute short made in 1978. If you’re curious where the king of the world got his start, watch the shoestring sci-fi project below.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about I.T., the revenge thriller that nabbed the acting services of Pierce Brosnan in October 2013. But despite some slow hard drive issues, it appears the film is still on track, with Stefanie Scott the latest addition. While Stefano Sollima was in the director’s chair back when Brosnan was hired, John Moore has since taken over the job, working from a script that has seen a rewrite from William Wisher. Brosnan is starring as a successful businessman – he owns a fleet of private jets – whose world is thrown into chaos when a disgruntled technology consultant swears vengeance. Scott will be Brosnan’s daughter, who becomes the target of the cyber-stalker who wants to ruin their livelihood and lives.Moore is looking to finally start shooting the movie this June in Ireland. Scott will next be seen as the young woman...

New Orleans – Arnold Schwarzenegger is The Terminator. The character is iconic and at least two of the movies stand pretty high in the pantheon of science fiction films. Notably, when the AFI put together its list of the top 50 heroes and top 50 villains of all time, Schwarzenegger's character appeared on both. Here is the thing – even today, fully 30 years after Arnold Schwarzenegger materialized, he is still the Terminator and getting the opportunity to watch him play the part on set in a new film is something special. The faces around him have changed, we saw him walking next to Emilia Clarke's Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney's Kyle Reese, but there's something about him, especially in the appropriate garb, that says, "Terminator." So, here we are on a hot July day in New Orleans, watching this iconic actor reprise his most iconic role. And, whatever the movie may turn...

From his psychological thriller to Spider-Man to Battle Angel, here's a look at the James Cameron-directed projects that never happened...
In the summer of 1977, James Cameron, like lots of other people that year, went to the cinema and watched Star Wars. But unlike so many others, Cameron didn't feel elation as the room went dark and the first space ship soared overhead - he felt a shiver of mild panic.
"My reaction to it was not, 'Oh, wow, that's cool. I want to see more,'" he later recalled. "It was, 'Oh wow, I better get off my butt because somebody is doing this stuff, you know, and they're beating me to it.'"
Within one year, the 24-year-old Cameron had borrowed some money from a consortium of dentists looking for a tax break, and with it, made the short film Xenogenesis. That film and its title (which could...

The Die Hard series may be alive and well, but there's a unique story behind the writing of each one…
As any action fanatic will tell you, Die Hard is among the best films of its type ever made. Tautly directed by John McTiernan, deceptively well shot by cinematographer Jan de Bont, and full of charismatic turns from Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia, it’s seldom been bettered, even by its sequels.
The key to the first film's success, and the sequels in their best moments, is hero John McClane. Tough, sarcastic but ultimately human and relatable, he cuts a very different figure from the beefed-up, larger-than-life heroes of 1980s and 90s action cinema. When John McClane gets shot or injured, he actually feels pain. It's something we were keenly aware of in the 1988 original, but gradually ebbed away as the Die Hard franchise drifted from thriller territory...

They re-tooled the cast, hired Renny Harlin, gave him a bigger budget and told him to go nuts with it.
This new film would go on to become what we know as Exorcist: The Beginning. However, when The Beginning underperformed, the company decided to resurrect Dominion, reshoot what needed to be done and finally release it to see how that version went.
I can see why the studio feared this take on the prequel story – I mean, when you hear The Exorcist, what do you think? Spider-crawling, vulgar babble, spinning heads and oh yes – vomit, lots of that sweet pea soup vomit.

Pierce Brosnan's set to play a publisher terrorised by his computer specialist in the forthcoming thriller, I.T...
Post-Bond, Pierce Brosnan's continued to appear in a broad range of roles, and, if anything, he's becoming ever more prolific as the years go by. This year sees him appear in no fewer than three movies: A Long Way Down, How To Make Love Like An Englishman and action thriller The November Man, which is out today in the Us.
Brosnan has another thriller lined up, it's recently been announced. It's called I.T., and it's written by James Cameron's old colleague William Wisher, who most famously wrote Terminator 2.
