The horror TV series Z Nation was produced by The Asylum (a company best known for the Sharknado franchise and mockbusters) and aired on Syfy for five seasons, running for a total of 68 episodes from September 12, 2014 to December 28, 2018. After that show wrapped up, a prequel series called Black Summer ran for two seasons (released in 2019 and 2021) on the Netflix streaming service. If you’ve been wondering when Black Summer is going to return for a third season… well, it looks like it’s not going to, because the folks at What’s on Netflix have confirmed that Netflix quietly “ghost cancelled” the show. But a new post on The Asylum’s X account indicates that Z Nation might be getting a revival! The post promises that a big announcement is coming soon…

Caitlin Bassett, Nanrisa Lee, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Raymond Lee in ‘Quantum Leap’ season 1 episode 1 (Photo by: Ron Batzdorff/NBC)
NBC’s Quantum Leap season one episode one does exactly what it needs to do. It introduces the new quantum leaper – Dr. Ben Song played by Raymond Lee (Kevin Can F**k Himself) – while paying respect to the original series that premiered in 1989 and ran for five seasons. It’s an updated sequel that retains much of what made the original series with Scott Bakula so entertaining. There’s the science stuff, of course, but there’s also a healthy mix of heart and humor.
2022’s Quantum Leap is a continuation of the original show and includes multiple references to Dr. Sam Beckett’s (Bakula) disappearance after stepping into the Quantum Leap Accelerator in 1995. Since then, the program’s been revived by the government with a new team...

"Stay seated" Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for the movie Hot Seat, a new trapped-by-a-bomb thriller from low rent action filmmaker James Cullen Bressack. He has been making forgettable action films for years with Bruce Willis, but now that he's retired they've switched over to worknig with Mel Gibson for his next mediocre movie. A reformed hacker turned cyber security technician finds himself in the "Hot Seat" when he realizes that he's just armed a bomb under his chair and he's forced to help a maniacal anonymous caller pull off an impossible cyber robbery. Kevin Dillon stars as the one in the chair, with Mel Gibson as a cop on the bomb squad, plus Shannen Doherty, Sam Asghari, Michael Welch, and Eddie Steeples. The funny thing is that this is pretty much the concept for Speed but transferred over into a "cyber thriller" movie. Even this "time is money...

There is a distinct flavor of the brawnily austere Westerns that comprise Budd Boetticher’s cult-favorite Ranown Cycle — and more than a hint of another showcase for the great Randolph Scott, Sam Peckinpah’s “Ride the High Country” — in director Michael Feifer’s “Last Shoot Out,” a small-budget indie that aims to please the currently underserved niche audience for oaters.
To be sure, no one will ever confuse this slow-paced concoction with one of the classics that so obviously influence it. But it’s definitely a cut above some of the recent streaming-ready attempts to sustain the genre — indeed, it’s a marked improvement over Feifer’s own “Catch the Bullet,” released just last September — and it features a ferociously nasty turn by Bruce Dern in a role that recalls a character from yet another golden oldie, Walter Brennan’s vicious Old Man Clanton in “My Darling Clementine.”

"I'm just trying to stay alive. I suggest all you do the same." Lionsgate has debuted an official trailer for a western action thriller titled Last Shoot Out, yet another new film from B-movie director Michael Feifer, also of A Soldier's Revenge and Catch the Bullet within the last year. The plot follows a woman who escapes her new husband's ranch after learning he killed her father. She hides out with a gunman named Billy Tyson at a remote outpost until he comes from her. Skylar Witte stars as Jocelyn, with a cast including Bruce Dern, Cam Gigandet, Michael Welch, Jay Pickett, & Brock Harris. Pretty much my whole reason for giving The Final Wish a watch was because Lin Shaye stars in it. She is a seal of approval for me and I know that even if the movie disappoints, then I will at least see a good performance from the veteran actress. That said, this also features Tony Todd, another reliable horror icon and had some decent-looking poster artwork, so it had at least a few things going for it.

Muddled and unimaginative plotting leaves this 90s-style low-budget chiller as a disappointing missed opportunity
The Final Wish could be the last straw. It’s another example of dumb horror: derivative, factory-product, unscary movie-making that jumbles up a bunch of secondhand tropes without any real storytelling discipline, although there is a decent, professional performance here from Lin Shaye as an ageing woman haunted by her past.
Aaron (Michael Welch), a young guy whose life is going nowhere and who thinks of himself as a failure, has to return to his home town on hearing that his dad has died. There is an uneasy reunion with his troubled mother, Kate (Shaye), local girl Lisa (Melissa Bolona) with whom he is still poignantly in love, and a number of school friends and school enemies. Lin Shaye in The Final Wish
If you’re read much folklore, you’ll be aware that the granting of wishes often comes with a price attached. When Aaron (Michael Welch) returns to his family home after the death of his antique collector father, he discovers an item with a sinister past and is surprised at the sudden improvements that seem to take place in his fortunes, but it’s all too quickly evident to viewers that something sinister is afoot. Central to the film, and responsible for much of its emotional impact, is the presence of Lin Shaye as Kate, the mother he has been out of touch with for some years. Ever since her unforgettable turn in Insidious in 2010, Lin has been adored by horror fans, but her involvement with the genre goes back decades before that and she has a great deal of other impressive work to her name,...

Horror icon Lin Shaye stars in a new horror film from the creator of Final Destination, and we’ve got an exclusive look!
It’s always exciting when a horror film can think up a truly unique premise to draw its scares from—though we just as easily love when reliable staples from the genre are reconfigured to popular (and often gruesome) delight. Yet the ideal situation is when the best of both worlds can blend like so much blood and terror, and an old fashioned idea can be spun off in a radically new and exciting direction. That’s exactly what appears to be happening in the upcoming The Final Wish.
The Final Wish taps into that karmic retribution horror that makes the simple monkey's paw archetype still so effective. When Aaron Hammond (Michael Welch) returns home to help his mother (Lin Shaye) after the death of his father,...

"The universe demands balance. For there to be life, there must be death." Cinedigm has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled The Final Wish, which just premiered at the Screamfest Film Festival earlier this fall. The film is about a man who returns home after the death of his father, to help his grief-stricken mother and to confront his past. While going through his dad's belongings, he comes across a mysterious item that is more than it seems. That's the only plot details provided, and this trailer doesn't help explain anything. The Final Wish stars horror iconic Lin Shaye, along with Michael Welch, Melissa Bolona, Tony Todd, Spencer Locke, and Kaiwi Lyman. Unfortunately this film looks like yet another derivative, repetitive supernatural horror without much of anything new to offer the genre. Check it anyway. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Timothy Woodward Jr's The Final Wish,...

The Final Wish has been reviewed by a few critics. The film blends the ordinary with the extraordinary. Wixson also mentions some...

Grief is front and center in Timothy Woodward Jr.’s The Final Wish, a cautionary tale about the dangers of wish fulfillment centered around a struggling lawyer named Aaron (Michael Welch) who just wants to do right by everyone. And because this is a horror movie we’re talking about here, wanting good things for those you love often can come with a hefty price tag attached. Aaron quickly realizes that you often need bad to balance out the good in life, and his good deeds result in some devastating outcomes, proving that even good intentions can go horribly awry.
When we’re introduced to Aaron in The Final Wish, he’s just been rejected during another job interview, he no longer has a place to live because he hasn’t been able to pay his rent, and a call from Lisa (Melissa Bolona), a former flame who informs him...

Alexandria, Virginia — There were gasps in the courtroom, then stunned silence. It was close to 11 a.m. on the seventh day of Paul Manafort’s fraud trial, and Kevin Downing, one of Manafort’s lawyers, had just lobbed a grenade at Rick Gates, Manafort’s former protégé turned star witness for Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
“Do you recall telling the office of the special counsel that you actually engaged in four extramarital affairs?” Downing asked.
Gates, who was in his third day of testimony, had already admitted to one affair...
