Karl Wallinger, the frontman of World Party who earlier played with The Waterboys, died March 10 at 66. No cause or location was given by his publicist in the confirmation.
The Welsh-born songwriter wrote World Party’s “Ship of Fools,” “Put the Message in the Box,” “Is It Like Today?” and “She’s the One,” which later was a hit cover for Robbie Williams.
Born Karl Edmond de Vere Wallinger on October 19 1957, he began his musical career in various bands as a keyboard player, then took a job in music publishing, which was followed by a brief stint as the musical director of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Wallinger joined the Waterboys in 1983 and played on their first three albums as a multi-instrumentalist, including on its biggest hit, “The Whole of the Moon.” That track reached the Top 30 in the UK before its 1991 re-release hit No. 3.

Karl Wallinger, the creative force behind the neo-psych project World Party and one-time member of The Waterboys, has died at the age of 66.
According to a statement from his publicist, Wallinger died on Sunday (March 10th). No cause of death has been revealed.
The Welsh-born musician and mind behind such tracks as “Ship of Fools,” “She’s the One,” “Whole of the Moon,” and more first joined The Waterboys in 1983 as a keyboard player after being recruited by Mike Scott. Wallinger’s quickly became an instrumental member of the group, introducing synth bass and orchestrations to their sound — as heard on 1984’s A Pagan Place and 1985’s This Is the Sea.
Wallinger’s tenure in The Waterboys was short-lived, however, as in 1985 he began work on a new solo venture called World Party. His first album under the moniker, 1986’s Private Revolution, housed the hit single “Ship of Fools” and further...

She's always up for a good game so it was only appropriate for Nintendo to help Chrissy Teigen celebrate her birthday with a Super Mario 3D World party in West Hollywood on Tuesday (November 26).
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model dressed as Princess Peach as her handsome hubby John Legend presented her with a cake while wearing a Mario costume.
On November 30th, the gaming gal officially turns 28 and we're sure the celebration will continue through the big day.
Worn out from the bash, Chrissy tweeted, "I fell asleep with my blue contacts in and everything hurts but yes nintendo party was the tits."...

Chrissy Teigen may be in her late 20s, but she's still a big kid at heart! The Sports Illustrated model celebrated her 28th birthday with a Super Mario 3D World party in West Hollywood, on Tuesday. Chrissy and hubby John Legend went all out for the birthday bash -- the R&B singer dressed up as Mario (even adding one hilarious fake belly) and Teigen appropriately went as Princess Peach from the popular video game. Even the ambiance of the party was decorated to fit the Mushroom Kingdom theme, from specialty drinks like "Princess Peach Bellini" and "Mario Power-Up," to classic Mario elements and characters which filled the room. The two were also joined by their closest friends and family for the fun festivities. What do you think of Chrissy's Nintendo birthday bash? We're totally jealous!Tell toofab in the comment section below, and click "Launch Gallery" above to see all of the party pics!

A birthday to remember! Chrissy Teigen celebrated turning 28 by way of her very own Super Mario 3D World party in West Hollywood on Tuesday, Nov. 26. And talk about going all out. Not only did the model and her husband, John Legend, dress up as Princess Peach and Mario, but the entire venue where the shindig took place was transformed into Mushroom Kingdom. Guests also go in on the action by donning costumes representing other Nintendo-themed characters as well, including classic GameBoys, Luigis and Toads. Of course, what video game-related party would be complete without, yep, video games! Sure enough, all those in attendance got to test their skills playing such Mario titles as Mario...

Director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s latest documentary Blackfish is a stunning tale about the systematic corruption of Sea World and how their practices have led to a culture that places profit over both the safety of its employees and the humane treatment of its animals. Using the 2010 death of a Sea World trainer as its focal point, it attempts to provide evidence to prove that tragedy was not an isolated incident brought on by trainer error—but the product decades of willing negligence of the highest order. Blackfish is certainly convincing with its methods, and will have you rethinking your upcoming family vacation to your local Sea World. While its filmmaking approach is brazenly straightforward, its ability to capture this tragic saga is a reminder of horrors that can occur when humanity underestimates the capabilities of nature.

Microsoft has published a bevy of prices for its Xbox One games and accessories over on its online store front, with the pricing spectrum for launch games ranging from £45 to £55. The company also attached a digital price tag to some of the next-gen console’s peripherals, including the wireless controller, which will retail at the expected £44.99.
All of the titles displayed are currently available for pre-order and encompass motion-centric properties such as Zumba Fitness: World Party (£49.99) to the first-party, triple-a games such as Dead Rising 3 (also priced at £49.99). One thing worth noting, though, is that some third-party titles – namely EA and Ubisoft games – are all priced at £54.99, with Watch Dogs and Battlefield 4 receiving a five pound price bump in comparison to their software brethrens.
Upon first glance, the price range may seem a little off putting. However, it’s important to remember that Xbox 360 games retailed for $60 eight years ago.

How does the Xbox One's exclusive launch line up stack up against the competition? We take a look...
Given that exclusives are one of the most important elements of any console's armoury, it's important for both Sony and Microsoft to get in some early heavy punches if either console is going to emerge as the firm favourite in the sales war. Over time the battle between the PS4 and Xbox One will be played out like a digital tug of war, with the balance of power shifting to-and-fro, but these early days are all about catching the platform buyers early, and the more each company can lure in, the better. We've already established that the best way to do this is with exclusive games, especially given the two machines' similarities technically. Though he’s obviously biased, Microsoft’s Phil Harrison believes that when the Xbox One launches, it will provide gamers with “the best line-up of games in the history of consoles.” An ambitious statement, no doubt, but one that may actually be true.
“Ultimately it’s the games that make Xbox One stand out, and we have the best lineup of games–we think–in the history of consoles,” Harrison said. ”We clearly have strong exclusive games, and we have partnered with EA to bring FIFA to Europe in a very meaningful way. Football in Europe is the sport, and in some countries it’s the religion.”
Currently, there are 23 titles that have been announced for launch and with games like Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Forza Motorsport 5 and Call of Duty: Ghosts on the list, among others, Harrison may just have a point.

Microsoft has announced a pretty impressive list of games that will launch with the Xbox One, even if it doesn't have a specific release date just yet. In all, the Xbox One console will release with 23 different games, including "Watch Dogs" and "Call of Duty: Ghosts." There are also four sports games, two racing titles and another entry in the "Dead Rising" franchise.
The list includes a variety of different titles, from sequels to brand new properties. Microsoft looks to be putting their best foot forward after backtracking on the privacy policies for the console that earned them quite a bit of bad press and consumer outrage.

Gamescom is currently underway in Germany, but Microsoft decided to sit out broadcasting their press conference at the convention to promote the launch of the Xbox One.
That hasn't stopped a bunch of people from liveblogging it though and the various key announcements have since made their way online.
First up, the biggest news is that when you pre-order an Xbox One before Christmas, you will be given a digital copy of "FIFA 14" for free. The deal also applies to those who have already pre-ordered.
In Europe, a special bundle will be sold that includes a copy of "Call of Duty: Ghosts" in the package.
Actual games news was fairly light. Microsoft confirmed the exclusive title "Fable Legends" which will include four-player co-op, and that Ubisoft is developing the Kinect game "Fighter Within". They also confirmed that Mojang's "Cobalt" will be coming to the console, and the Xbox One version...

The Xbox One: it's gonna have games, apparently.
After spending the last couple of weeks walking back contentious things like the "always on" connectivity and even mandatory Kinect functionality, Microsoft would like to remind you that the Xbox One has a bunch of games you'll probably want to play in the coming months.
The complete list of games comes up to 50, a mix of largely Aaa, third-party releases with a handful of indies and first-party games thrown in. Many, like "Watch_Dogs" and "Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag" are known commodities, launch window titles that will be part of the usual cross-generational mess you typically get around the launch of new consoles. Then there are games like "Halo Xbox One" (that's what they're calling it in the list) and "Mad Max" which are so early that we're not even sure what the vision for those games are.

As fans anticipate the release of Goodie Mob’s first joint album since 1999’s “World Party” later this month, many are also questioning the motive behind the group’s 14-year hiatus.
Yesterday (August 6), during an appearance on HuffPost Live, the hip hop quartet -- consisting of CeeLo Green, Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo -- talked about their latest “milestone achievement,” recording “Age Against the Machine.” Furthermore, they apologized to fans for the long wait.
“What can I say, we had 14 year hiatus. But we all had individual success, here and there,” Green admitted. “I’ve gone on to do a couple different things... But what we’re doing is kind of bringing it all back home. And I’m sorry that it’s taken this long. We didn’t mean to be as preoccupied as we ended up being.”

Goodie Mob is back with a new single.

Cee-Lo's distinctive voice can be heard halfway through the track, rapping "Scientists stood around in silence as I was being born / was I quote unquote special, or was there something wrong? / My skin was black, my heart was gold, and my tongue was silver / and the fact that I could talk already, that was a thriller."

As I set out to write this article, I decided on three very specific groundrules. To be eligible, firstly a character has to be the protagonist of their respective game series (sorry, all the Pokemon and Piñatas), no matter how cool they are (sorry, Chrono Trigger’s Frog). Secondly, they have to be based on a real animal (sorry, Spyro, Ratchet and Daxter). Finally, the character needs to have originated in video games, not in film or another medium. With these guidelines in place, I’d like to invite you to try to think of your own list of ten before you start reading. After the article is over, tell me how many we agreed on in the comments section. Let’s get started…

For people of a certain age (i.e. Brits who grew up in the ’90s), Worms holds a special place in their hearts, and that joyful little war song plays in their heads any time little pink invertebrates are thought of or the phrase “Hell hath no fury like a well-timed grenade” is uttered. You do know what song I’m talking about, don’t you?
Yep. That one. This nostalgia high’s on me, folks… Much of my misspent youth revolved around the glorious turn-based destruction of little pink blobs, mostly representing my brothers – whose heads I tragically couldn’t place dynamite on in real life – which sparked a lifelong love affair with anthropomorphic, gun-toting animals and likely many future therapy sessions.
Which is why I’m rather excited that Team 17 have put three of the games on one disc and added a whole bunch of extra features. I...

While our managing editor Steve Holtje has done a bang-up job sharing phenomenal Jazz and Classical reviews, I thought I'd share some of my favorite new rock, pop, and soul picks for Summer 2012. It's time for BBQs and beach blanket bingo parties. Time to get your swag on, peoples.
"Radiator Sister" - The Mynabirds Generals (Saddle Creek) - Infectious, bubble-gum snappin' tunes abound on this sophomore long player from singer-songwriter Laura Burhenn. All aptly produced by Richard Swift, but for my limited ducats this iPod-friendly ditty is the bees-ness. Equal parts Bow Wow Wow and T.Rex, with its two-note piano hook.
"Among the Leaves" Sun Kil Moon Among the Leaves (Caldo Verde) - Mark Kozelek remains steadfast in his musical offerings; familiar turf, but still so damn compelling. Alt tunings, heartfelt ballads, and lyrical dexterity all remain firmly in place. The gentle tug of his band behind him keep...

The 'Hunger Games' star takes on the 'sexiest woman in the world' in our latest showdown! Who wore Versace better? Vote! While Elizabeth Banks made a statement on the red carpet in NYC back in January when she rocked the studded Versace frock from the Spring 2012 collection, it wasn't the last time we saw this sexy mini! On May 1, X Factor UK judge and FHM's sexiest woman in the world, Tulisa Contostavlos, also donned the dress. Talk about some tough competition! Due to the NYC cold, Elizabeth opted for tights and pumps -- but it was her killer confidence and stellar red carpet stance that really made the look stand out! Rather than the dress wear her, the star totally rocked the frock. Tulisa may be the sexiest woman in the world, but her ankle-strap sandals and prom-like 'updo at the FHM magazine 100 Sexiest Women in the World party at...

Celebrity mothers Kelly Preston, Elisabeth Rohm and Jenna Elfman have joined forces with a children's charity to host kids' parties aimed at raising awareness about the toxic chemicals used in household products.
The actresses, along with Muhammad Ali's boxer daughter Laila Ali and former All My Children star Susan Lucci and her daughter Liza Huber, are among more than 150 volunteers who have signed up to throw individual events for the Healthy Child Healthy World organisation as part of its Healthy Child Party Week, which begins on 5 May.
Party hosts are required to invite at least 15 friends and family members to a specially-organised bash to educate others about the dangers of household toxins and find ways to create a healthier home.
Friends with Benefits star Elfman says, "I had no idea about all the potential toxins in my household until I personally attended a Healthy Child Healthy World party in 2007.
"I was pregnant with my first son and learned so much in one short afternoon. It opened the door to much healthier living for my family and I am forever grateful. Now I just want to return the favour."...

The Soul Machine himself, Cee-Lo Green, has announced that his old group, Goodie Mob, is reforming for a new album, supposedly due this fall. Goodie Mob were part of the Dungeon Family, a collection of Atlanta-based rappers that put Hot 'Lanta on the map in the 1990s with albums like Soul Food and OutKast's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. The Mob, so named because "the Good Die Mostly Over Bullshit," according to their track "Fighting," had something of a slump after Cee-Lo left suddenly in the middle of production for their 1999 album World Party. They were dropped from Arista Records shortly afterwards and haven't recorded an album since 2005's Livin' Life as Lumberjacks. But Cee-Lo recently took to Twitter to announce the release of a new album, We Sell Drugs Too, apparently scheduled for release this fall. It took a while, but it's shaping up to [...]...

Wilco - Wilco (The Album) Oh, Tweedy, must we go all first person in the first song on an album that's self-titled? We know, it's supposed to be a song to the fans, and it's been on the net to ponder for a while now, but...really? Wilco's going to love, maybe even protect us from all our personal ills and demons ("...a sonic shoulder to cry on")? And another question or two: Was "Bull Black Nova" invented so Nels Cline could play his ass off and not quit the band (considering this is practically a singer-songwriter album in disguise)? Has someone been listening to George Harrison's Dark Horse period, World Party and Danny O'Keefe's Breezy Stories album? Speaking of parties, what's up with that cover with a camel in a Shriner's cap? Ah, we kid, it's all good, this is a...
