It’s been a long time coming, but a remake of the 1994 film The Crow (which was based on the comic book series created by James O’Barr) will finally be making its way out into the world on August 23rd, which is when Lionsgate will be giving the film a theatrical release. With that release date swiftly approaching, we figured we should gather together all the information we have on this movie… and here it is, Everything We Know About The Crow Remake:
Development Hell
When the original The Crow was released, it was successful enough to spawn a franchise, with three sequels following over the next eleven years. We got The Crow: City of Angels in 1996, The Crow: Salvation in 2000, and The Crow: Wicked Prayer in 2005, with several other potential sequels (including one that would have been written and directed by Rob Zombie) being developed and scrapped along the way.

This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the movie being reviewed here wouldn't exist.
At this point, the "video game movie" classification feels just about as broad and changeable as that of a "superhero movie." Is there any point in lumping together movies like "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" or "Detective Pikachu" with "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City" or "Uncharted"? (Does anyone even remember "Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City" or "Uncharted"?) By the same token, any lingering talk of an all-expansive "curse" associated with these adaptations increasingly comes across less like some inexplicable barrier that studios have (mostly) been unable to cross, and more to do with the idea that simply trying to translate a medium as idiosyncratic and immersive as video games into the wildly different language of film has always been self-defeating.

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios are currently in a pretty rough era since their last three Dceu movies have all turned out to be commercial failures, and things aren’t looking promising for the upcoming ‘Blue Beetle’ either. However, we mustn’t forget the animated projects that DC is currently developing, and there we have some new things that are promising quite a lot.
DC has always been known for great animated adaptations, regardless if they’re feature movies or TV shows. Since the legendary DC Animated Universe spawned series such as ‘Batman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Superman: The Animated Series,’ ‘Batman Beyond,’ and ‘Justice League.’ The universe concluded in 2006, but DC continued to produce more animated projects, including great movies such as ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox,’ ‘Batman: Under the Red Hood,’ ‘Batman: Assault on Arkham,’ and a two-part movie adaptation of ‘Batman: The Dark Knight Returns.’

Bobby “RZA” Diggs, the producer and leader of the legendary hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, hopes he’s created a guidebook for people who grew up the way he did.
Speaking about Season 3 of Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” the fictionalized account of the group’s origin that he created with Alex Tse, he says, “This show is a map for young men trying to navigate themselves through life. Whether they’re in music, sports or nine-to-fives. I just hope that when young men, and young women, watch it, they take these examples to heart.”
Though “Wu-Tang” began in the midst of a clash between rival gangs, the series’ third and final season sees Bobby (played by Ashton Sanders), ever the perfectionist, spending every waking hour in the studio as the architect behind the group and each member’s solo careers — though issues with drugs, girls and the rappers...

Zack Snyder’s name remains prominently connected to his lengthy redux of Justice League as well as his preceding DC Comics movies. This week, it’s his first DC outing that’s back in the spotlight: 2009’s Watchmen, a superhero movie that, despite its disconnect from the main DC Universe, bears a reference to Batman, an easter egg that has long been the center of speculation.
In the process of promoting his new Netflix gore-fest, Army of the Dead, Snyder takes viewers to “Snyder School” in an analytical video that looks back at the opening sequences from some of his past films, most pertinently, Watchmen. There, he confirms that one scene in particular from the film’s famously lengthy expository opening montage establishes a direct connection to the main DC Comics universe, specifically the existence of Gotham City, the wealthy Wayne family, and, by virtue of that, their son, Bruce.

“Wu Tang: An American Saga,” created and written by the RZA and Alex Tse, depicts the early days of the Wu-Tang Clan in 1990s New York. Hulu renewed the scripted series for a second season in January.
But the end of its 10-episode first season had many fans wondering, “Whither U-God?,” a member of the rap collective since its inception (real name Lamont Hawkins), who had yet to make an appearance. Fans can wonder no more; RZA confirmed to Variety exclusively that U-God will be depicted in the show’s sophomore season.
“Yes, he’s signed on for Season 2. He always was going to be part of it,” said RZA, adding that U-God has been consulting on the show.
In 2018, U-God published “Raw: My Journey into the Wu-Tang,” a memoir on his career with the group, at one point detailing how fractured the rap collective had become.

“Watchmen” is back in the cultural zeitgeist this fall, thanks to Damon Lindelof’s acclaimed HBO drama series that serves as a sequel to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons 1986-87 comic book series of the same name. Screenwriter David Hayter has marked the occasion by making public for the first time just over four minutes of test footage for his unmade “Watchmen” feature film (via Entertainment Weekly). The test footage was shot in 2003. Hayter was coming off the blockbuster success of “X-Men” (2000) when Universal hired him in 2001 to write and direct “Watchmen.”
As seen in the test footage below, Hayter recruited “Game of Thrones” breakout Iain Glen to play Daniel Dreiberg/Nite Owl II. The character of Rorschach is played by “Dexter” actor Ray Stevenson. Glen was coming off the success of “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” at the time. The test footage depicts one of the early scenes in the...

According to the RZA, the Wu-Tang Clan had a “weekly Wu Wednesday call” throughout the making of their Hulu biopic.
“Good, bad or ugly, we discussed we talked, I filled them in,” the RZA, born as Robert Diggs, who co-created the series alongside Alex Tse, said after a screening at Hulu’s Paleyfest event in Los Angeles Calif. on Tuesday night.
Set in 1990s New York City, the dramatic limited series portrays the tumultuous and inspiring rise of one of the most iconic hip-hop groups in history. The story focuses on Diggs as he worked to unite a dozen disparate black men during the height of the crack cocaine epidemic to abandon crime for their musical passions.
“Whoever was in town, if they wanted to hop into the writers’ room, they could,” the RZA said of his former group-mates, adding that any member who wanted to had significant creative input...

RZA speaks about his new office-bound lifestyle with reverence — the grind and mundanity, structure and camaraderie. The writers’ room for Hulu’s new original series, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, is, in his words, a utopian ideal. He describes working on the show with words like “sacred” and “therapy.” From October 2018 to January 2019, he traded in the 10-member brotherhood of the Wu-Tang Clan for a 10-person writing staff writing a 10-episode season of television. And what RZA cherished most of all were the coffee runs.

Actor Shameik Moore has been riding high from multiple successful projects in both film and television, including Dope, Netflix’s The Get Down and voicing Miles Morales in the Oscar-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now Moore is stepping into the shoes of Sha Rayder – a.k.a Raekwon from ‘90s hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan in Hulu’s new series Wu-Tang: An American Saga.

Following Showtime’s exceptional four-hour “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men” documentary, RZA teamed up with creator Alex Tse for “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” a 10-episode scripted series that serves as more than an origin story of the Staten Island crew that changed hip-hop forever. It captures the group’s early polychromatic points of view and emerging creative brilliance, and like the best origin stories, “Saga” tries to be a series that both Wu-Tang newcomers and Wu-Tang fanatics can grasp and enjoy.
However, the earlier documentary did a more thorough job of capturing the music and the personalities in the group, and, more importantly, it told the story with much more clarity, making “Of Mics and Men” required introductory viewing – especially for Wu neophytes – before watching “Saga” in order to be able fully appreciate the series.

For Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” cinematographer Gavin Kelly set out to capture the heroic journeys of the dozen young black men that Bobby Diggs, aka The RZA, assembled amid the early 1990s crack-cocaine epidemic in New York’s Staten Island to form one of the most important groups in hip-hop history.
“The look of the show for me was about the edges of light and shadow, where our characters’ conflicts, [losses] and victories take place in a high-stakes world,” says Kelly, who comes to the biopic from three seasons of FX’s “American Horror Story.” “Lighting-wise, rich contrast and layered color textures were central to the look and tone.”
The 10-episode series debuts Sept. 4 and tells the story of the formation of the Wu-Tang Clan, which transformed hip-hop and had a huge impact on music, arts and culture via the success not only of the group but of the...

Bobby Diggs, aka RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan, used a curious analogy when speaking with TheWrap about Hulu’s upcoming scripted series tracking the rise of the legendary rap group: He said it was like “making sweet potato pie.”
RZA was describing both his and co-creator Alex Tse’s feelings towards seeking involvement from members from the real Wu-Tang Clan. We’ll let him explain it from here.
“We know that we’re making sweet potato pie, and we know that it takes ingredients. And we know that this guy does got some good nutmeg, and this guy got some good butter. But we know where to get nutmeg and butter from too. And we’re making this pie. Some members will be in town and they’ll say ‘Oh we’re going to come by the writers’ room.’ And maybe they don’t come in time. Some members, they’re right there.

“Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” a new series on Hulu assaying the rise of the Wu-Tang Clan as recollected by one of its members, joins a recent wave of art in which the subjects tell high-gloss versions of their own stories.
Last year, “Bohemian Rhapsody” — a hagiographic look at the rise of the band Queen, made with the enthusiastic assent and guidance of that group’s surviving members, became an Oscar-winning smash hit. It was followed this summer by “Rocketman,” a big-budget retelling of Elton John’s life story in which John, too, participated. Both versions were told redemptively, with a certain glowing admiration for both the musicianship of their subjects and other, loftier qualities. In 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton,” about the rap group N.W.A., the involvement was yet more literal: Not merely did the rappers in question produce the film, but Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan recently was the subject of a four-part documentary series on Showtime, but founding member RZA says that Hulu’s forthcoming Wu drama will give viewers even more of a glimpse into the band as there were things the members were “too shy to say in front of a camera”.
Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which launches September 4 on the streaming platform, tells the story of the band starting in early 1990s. It looks at the group’s members, who grew up during the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, and tracks the Clan’s formation — a vision of Bobby Diggs aka RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young black men who are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.
“Wu Tang has always entertained and inspired, and this show is inspirational,” RZA said. “The documentary touches on one thing,...

Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nuthing ta f— with, but both Hulu and Showtime are messing with their story in separate biographical projects this year. Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” is the scripted version to Showtime’s documentary, which is already out, so exactly how accurate to the rap group’s life story will the still-upcoming one be?
That was the first question Friday at the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel.
“We like to call it a historical fiction,” co-creator, writer and executive producer Alex Tse told reporters. “So, there are things in it that actually happened, there are versions of events, some moving around the timeline — but spiritually it’s very truthful and accurate.”
