A decade and a half after the 2008 premiere of Marvel's "Iron Man," it's hard to remember a time without it. The film took a lesser-known comic book character and turned him into the most popular member of the Avengers, made him a cultural phenomenon, and changed the landscape of popular film as we know it. The film helped to revive Robert Downey Jr.'s career after his battle with substance abuse and made him one of the most beloved names in the geek world.

In Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man," the playboy weapons industrialist Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has an ethical crisis about his line of work following a traumatic kidnapping incident. Tony was held hostage in a cave by a rogue terrorist (Faran Tahir) who was using the weapons his company produced to spread chaos and death in the Middle East. With the help of a fellow kidnapping victim, a doctor named Ho Yinsen (Shaun Toub), Tony builds a high-tech, weaponized suit of armor to escape his cave. Sadly, Yinsen is killed in the process. Tony returns to the United States broken and sad, and soon announces that his company will no longer be making weapons.
No one is more startled by Tony's change of heart than his long-suffering personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow). For years, Pepper took care of Tony's business, but also his messy personal life; early in the film,...

Robert Downey, Jr. has been frank and forthcoming about his prolonged struggles with substance addiction. For many years, the actor abused cocaine and heroin, all while balancing an exciting career as one of his generation's best actors. Downey opened up, as in other places, on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," talking about how the most difficult part of giving up drugs was the resolute decision to do so. Ever since, Downey has remained clean, and, thanks to the 2008 film "Iron Man" become one of the world's wealthiest and most recognizable movie stars. Also in 2008, Downey appeared in the film "Tropic Thunder" as an intensely devoted prima donna actor who surgically changed his race (!) to play a role. He was nominated for an Academy Award.
As many former addicts might tell you, their decision to get clean is often accompanied by a "low point" or a "moment of clarity." Something might happen...

I hate to upset people, but those who longed to see Tony Stark doing a load of laundry in the 2008 film "Iron Man" will not get their wish.
It seems the scene was filmed, but then cut from the film and left on the cutting room floor. It was never included in any of the film's Blu-ray/DVD special features, and it was never screened outside of editing bays and the rooms where producers review dailies. The "Iron Man" laundry scene is, it would appear, lost to time.
To remind readers, the opening of Jon Favreau's "Iron Man" -- a positively quaint film when compared to the groaning machinations of the Marvel Cinematic Universe it spawned -- was about a hotshot inventor and weapons manufacturer named Tony Stark who was kidnapped by Middle Eastern terrorists. The terrorists, led by the gangster Abu Bakkar (Sayed Badreya), had been stealing Stark...

I like it even more than season one. Go figure!
Shaun: I know that because, in the business, they always say the first season is amazing, and then the second is going to go down, but the third one is going to be great.
So did you both watch Faraz's Choice?

“Once you’re in, there’s no way out,” according to the tag line for Israeli/U.S. co-production “Tehran.” Never has a truer word been written when it comes to the spy thriller’s nail-biting eight-episode first season, which concluded in July 2020. And now fans of the show are on the edge of their seats again on the eve of its sophomore season premiere this Friday, May 6 on Apple TV Plus. Will “Tehran” Season 2 infiltrate the 2022 Emmys?
Trust me, this show hooks you from the moment a commercial plane flying from Jordan to India is forced to make an emergency landing in Iran, launching a series of events in which undercover Mossad agents try desperately to stay one step ahead of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (Irgc) agents hunting them down. This is not your average run-of-the-mill spy thriller. Think “24” or” “Homeland,” but on steroids.

Apple TV+ will premiere Tehran, the espionage thriller it is co-producing with Israeli broadcaster Kan 11, on September 25 internationally. Apple will drop the first three episodes, before switching to weekly installments every Friday.
Distributed by Cineflix Rights, the eight-part series features young Israeli actress Niv Sultan as Tamar Rabinyan, a Mossad computer hacker-agent undertaking her very first mission in Iran’s capital, which is also her place of birth.
Tasked with disabling an Iranian nuclear reactor, her mission has implications not just for the Middle East, but for the rest of the world. But when the Mossad mission fails, Tamar goes rogue in Tehran as she rediscovers her Iranian roots and becomes romantically entwined with a pro-democracy activist.
Tehran also stars Iron Man actor Shaun Toub and Homeland‘s Navid Negahban, and was created and written by Moshe Zonder, who penned Netflix’s Fauda. Dana Eden and Maor Kohn created the show alongside Zonder,...

There are a surprising number of horror movies set during World War II. Perhaps because it was such a horrific time for most the World, that horror directors believe it is a good back drop for the genre. This, for whatever reason, usually involves zombies but, unsurprisingly given the title, Ghosts of War centres around ghosts.
We see five American soldiers assigned to hold a French château that was formerly occupied by the Nazi high command. What seems like a relatively easy job, soon turns out anything but as a supernatural presence descends on to the soldiers.
One thing Ghosts of War does feature a lot of is gore. Perhaps because of the subject matter of war,...

Sometimes the memories of our inaction haunt us more than the actions we have committed. This can be especially true at war once you return home to realize the blood on your hands goes far beyond the lives you were directly responsible for extinguishing. Whether you found yourself helpless to act because of a direct order from your superior or you simply froze out of justifiable fear, the screams of those lost will remind you of your complicity either way and haunt your dreams like a curse from the dead. People who weren’t there brush off this nightmarish scenario by saying these horrors are a means to an end, but such judgments won’t alter their psychological impact upon those who’ve experienced them. Our consciences aren’t built to forget.
What is it that haunts the heroic soldiers of Eric Bress’ Ghosts of War? What makes Chris (Brenton Thwaites...

Things are finally back on track this first season of Snowpiercer, after last week’s extremely transition-y episode that didn’t do a ton to move the narrative forward. Episode 7, entitled “The Universe is Indifferent,” begins to amp up to the promised revolution aboard the titular train in a meaningful way, as an executive upheaval begins to develop, loved ones are lost, and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) decides the only way to win the impending war is to align himself with the most twisted passenger aboard the Snowpiercer as well.
“The Universe is Indifferent” opens with a performance from Miss Audrey (Lena Hall) in the Nightcar, while Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) is on the hunt for Layton after their physical altercation last week. It’s apparent from her haughty pursuit of the detective that Melanie’s officially done taking crap, as we watch her interrogate Terence (Shaun Toub), the leader of the janitorial crew,...

This Snowpiercer review contains spoilers.
Snowpiercer Episode 7
The cold opening to this week’s Snowpiercer opens up with none other than Lj Folger (Annalise Basso) discussing human nature. Specifically, how to her one of the core tenets of human behavior is to be self-involved, and how the individual person is never the most important person in the world, no matter what they might think. That’s easy for someone like Lj to say, because she’s only important because her family is important. But what about someone like Melanie (Jennifer Connelly)? In the world of Snowpiercer, she’s the person on the train with real, ultimate power, and that’s why she is involved in every plot, scheme, and silly little game; when you’re one exposed lie away from getting your head stuck out a porthole by your enemies, you tend to take those things seriously.
However, at a...
