- [on his job as presenter of Cluedo (1990) I absolutely hated Cluedo, it was the worst thing I've ever done. It took forever to make the thing. We used to have to turn the studio audience over just to make sure they didn't get any bed sores.
- Phil Collins is one of the nicest people I've ever interviewed.
- [on Michael Parkinson] I have the greatest admiration for him but he's doing this insurance ad to pay for your funeral and you get a free pen! I think, 'Michael, what are you doing?' I don't know what coffin to go for but now I've got a free pen, that's the one for me! What is that all about? You're dead, who are you going to write to?
- [on Patrick Moore] One of the last great TV characters, like with Magnus Pyke and Bellamy (David Bellamy), those sort of people. The world's full of autocue readers now. I'm not saying that unkindly but it is, it's what we all do.
- Pop stars, DJs and girls have been part of the furniture for ever. But even when girls are 15 going on 21, dressed to the nines, anyone with a brain cell knows they're off-limits. It's disgusting.
- I heard about Jimmy Savile - I met him twice and found him deeply unpleasant. God knows why none of it came out before. The farce is the bastard's dead. It should be revealed, but I'm not sure we're achieving much.
