Little good came out of "X-Men: Apocalypse." The preceding film "Days of Future Past" was meant to be a fresh start for the Merry Mutants. Instead, director Bryan Singer was exposed as creatively bankrupt; "Apocalypse" rehashes beats from Singer's previous movies like a "greatest hits" compilation. Singer always had little interest in the source material comics and "Apocalypse" showed he was out of his depth trying to make an "X-Men" movie that felt more like them.
This feeling of running on fumes, juxtaposed with a comical misuse of Oscar Isaac's talents, meant "Apocalypse" was the beginning of the end for 20th Century Fox's "X-Men" movies, not a new dawn. It's certainly when their spell over me ended.
The post-credits scene of "X-Men: Apocalypse" in particular is pointless. Its very inclusion was Fox taking a page from rival Marvel Studios, but the sequel set-up doesn't pay off.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe fans always have something to look forward to, particularly in the last couple of years when we started getting more MCU content than ever. Since the franchise expanded through television series on Disney+, Marvel Studios made sure that we won’t be able to catch a break anytime soon. However, the studio started developing more animated content besides live-action series and spin-offs.
‘What If…?,’ which serves as the alternate canon to the MCU, was the first animated series developed as an alternate canon to the MCU. However, with Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Marvel Studios got the rights to X-Men characters back, and on Disney+ Day 2021, the studio officially announced ‘X-Men ’97,’ which won’t be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but will serve as the continuation to the original X-Men Animated Series, which originally ran from 1992 to 1997 on Fox Kids Network.

Does James Marsden's agent have something against him? For the majority of his career, Marsden has played characters that are the equivalent of tapioca pudding. He was the nice guy who Rachel McAdams dumps for Ryan Gosling in "The Notebook." Then he was the nice guy Lois Lane hooked up with while Superman was away in "Superman Returns." More recently, he's played Sonic's adopted dad in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" films, a fellow whose personality consists solely of being nice and panicking whenever Sonic gets into trouble. Heck, Marsden's android character in the titular park on "Westworld," Teddy, literally has no identity outside of being the nice guy boyfriend for Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores. He's essentially the Ken to her Barbie (and that's Tedough).
The trouble arguably started with Marsden's breakout turn as Scott Summers/Cyclops in "X-Men." Despite being a prominent member of Professor Xavier's superhero team in Marvel's comic books,...

The X-Men character Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, always had to wear specially fitted sunglasses or a custom visor -- outfitted with magical crystal lenses -- to block the powerful laser beams that were always pouring out of his eyes. Weirdly, the eye beams couldn't burn through his own eyelids. The character of Wolverine, meanwhile, was outfitted with striped yellow spandex and an enormous mask sporting outsize facial "wings" that stuck out at least four inches on either side of his head. The costume didn't look very wolverine-like -- wolverines aren't yellow -- but it was pointy and vicious and looked cool on the page. High-contrast colors tend to "pop" in superhero stories.
Superhero costumes work perfectly well when the character is merely a drawing on a piece of paper. When outfitting living actors with the same costumes, however, it might look a little silly and, if the costume is too weird,...

One of the most exciting things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is that just about any character from Marvel comics could possibly appear. There are movies about every corner of the Marvel universe, from "The Eternals" to "The Guardians of the Galaxy." One beloved superhero team that has yet to make the jump to the MCU is the X-Men, in large part because the rights were owned by 20th Century Fox until 2019. With the rights to the mutant team now over at Disney, it's only a matter of time before the X-Men join the MCU, and that means figuring out who to cast as Professor Charles Xavier and his strange superhero squad.

Bad Bunny leads the 2022 Latin Grammy Award nominations with 10 bids including Album of the Year (“Un Verano Sin Ti“) and Record of the Year (“Ojitos Lindos”), but can he finally win top honors from the academy? Scroll down for the complete list of contenders in all categories.
SEEBillboard charts: Number-one albums of 2022
The Latin Recording Academy has been somewhat ambivalent about Bad Bunny, judging from his track record over the years. He has won four times, but only in urban genre categories. He lost his three previous Album of the Year bids (for “Yhlqmdlg” and “Oasis” in 2020 and “El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo” in 2021) and his previous Record of the Year nom (for “Vete” in 2020). However, Bad Bunny has emerged as the biggest crossover Latin star in the world. “Un Verano Sin Ti” has topped the all-genre, all-language Billboard 200 albums chart for 11 weeks, which is more than any album in six years.

At the end of the last Sonic movie our protagonist had more or less settled on earth. The eponymous blue hedgehog had an adoptive family life in the small town of Green Hills, and his nemesis was stranded on a mushroom planet. Obviously that state couldn't persist, else there'd be no sequel.
It's unlikely that anyone who hasn't seen the first Sonic movie will go and see the second, and that's fair enough. The first outing was entertaining, though it is notable that a pre-release backlash saw the character design for its azure hero significantly changed. This is something that's much easier to do when most of your cast are acting at tennis balls.
There are plenty of other returnees. James Marsden is back as small town Sheriff Tom. His career has plenty of voice acting and CG enhanced roles, including X-Men's Scott Summers in at least two of the overlapping.

All four of Hollywood’s premiere handsome actors named Chris hold major roles in comic book franchises, but Marvel Studios have 75% of the quartet under their roof. In fact, by the time Thor: Love and Thunder hits theaters in February 2022, Evans, Hemsworth and Pratt will have made a combined total of 24 appearances in the McU, so Kevin Feige has certainly got his money’s worth out of the Holy Trinity.
Meanwhile, Chris Pine will have his second outing as the Dceu’s Steve Trevor when Wonder Woman 1984 arrives on the big screen and HBO Max in just over two weeks, even though he sacrificed himself to save the world at the end of the first movie. Over the course of thirteen movies at Fox, the X-Men were the subjects of sequels, prequels, spinoffs and sequels to those prequels and spinoffs, but one thing that none of the comic book blockbusters managed was to give Cyclops something important to do. The quality of the long-running series was wildly inconsistent over the course of the 20 years it was on our screens, but the one constant was the leader of the team being shunted into the background.
James Marsden was forced to constantly play the third wheel to the simmering chemistry between Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, while Tye Sheridan’s performances in Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix once again saw Scott Summers established as more of a plot device to further Jean’s narrative than a fully-formed character in his own right.

If your only knowledge of the X-Men came from the Fox franchise that ran for two decades before concluding in disappointing fashion when The New Mutants finally landed in theaters with a thud earlier this year, then you’d be forgiven for being completely unaware that Cyclops is the strong and determined leader of the team, as well as one of the most influential characters in comic book history.
Across a dozen movies, Scott Summers was never really given anything important to do, with James Marsden generally shunted into the background as Wolverine’s love rival and Tye Sheridan’s younger version largely existing as a plot device to further Jean Grey’s arc. Fans will be hoping that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming reboot will finally do Cyclops justice on the big screen, then, after watching him spend two decades relegated to a supporting role.

The hook of these fantastic Marvels Snapshot books has been the ordinary observing the extraordinary. That is, what is it like for the more average people in the Marvel Universe? What’s their story? It’s a nice idea, and one that writers have a lot of fun with. Writer Jay Edidin puts his own spin on that take here. The ‘ordinary’ observer to events this time round is a resident of a Nebraska orphanage, a certain teenage Scott Summers. He’s destined to have a massive impact on the Marvel Universe, he just doesn’t know it yet. I love this idea for a couple of reasons. One, it’s smart. It would be fair to say that one of the least interesting aspects of the original X-Men trilogy was the love triangle between Jean Grey, Cyclops and Wolverine. Audiences that weren’t familiar with the comic book history of the characters were probably wondering why it was even a contest, given that James Marsden’s Scott Summers was one of the weakest and least interesting characters in the movies and Hugh Jackman’s Logan was clearly the magnetic and charismatic focal point of the entire franchise.
By the time we got to The Last Stand, Cyclops was simply killed off to little fanfare in the first botched attempt at adapting the Phoenix Saga as the focus shifted entirely towards Jean and Logan. For fans that felt like the complicated dynamic between the three X-Men was never really done justice the first time around though, or even those that thought the...

Traditionally, X-Men fans have been critical of James Marsden’s Cyclops in the Fox cinematic franchise, but in recent years he’s had something of a reappraisal, with it generally now agreed that, though the character was underutilized in the films, Marsden was actually pretty spot-on casting for Scott Summers. This year the character with the longest name in comics, and one of the coolest alter egos in comics, turns thirty years old. I am of course talking about the time-travelling mutant bad-ass that is Nathan Christoper Charles Dayspring Summers aka Cable. Although he has also been known as Askani’son, Chosen One, Traveler and Soldier X. Thirty years may not seem a lot at first glance when up against industry titans like Batman and Superman, or ever his fellow X-Men but when you consider Cable debuted as Cable in 1990 pre the comic market crash and then he came out the other side and years later was the co star of a very successful movie and you could argue he is more popular than ever! Then I would say things have turned out pretty decent for the baby with the glowing eye.

Marvel Studios is set to relaunch the X-Men franchise within the McU over the next few years, meaning fans should get ready to meet a recast roster of mutant heroes. Usual leader of the team Scott Summers will likely be among them, but what advice does veteran Cyclops actor James Marsden offer to the next person to don Cyke’s ruby quartz visor?
Well, actually, his advice has everything to do with the X-Man’s snazzy red-tinged headgear. In an interview with Collider to promote Sonic the Hedgehog, Marsden talked about how the biggest challenge of bringing Cyclops to life as an actor is building a three-dimensional character without the use of your eyes. Especially a straight-down-the-line character like Scott.
“The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes. Definitely was a handicap in bringing a persona to the character, and an energy to the character.

Though you may know James Marsden as Teddy Flood thanks to HBO’s Westworld, there was a time when the actor was front and center of the superhero scene.
Long before Marvel built its magnum opus in the McU, and thoughts of a live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie were but a distant (and rather bizarre) dream, James Marsden took on the role of Scott Summers (Aka Cyclops) for Bryan Singer’s X-Men movies in the early 2000s. The actor later reprised that same role for The Last Stand, but the less said about that particular superhero sequel, the better.
So now that 20th Century Fox is under the ownership of Disney, and Marvel Studios has regained control of the X-Men, would James Marsden consider the possibility of reprising his role as Scott Summers/Cyclops for an McU movie?
That very question was presented to the Westworld star during a recent interview with ComicBook.

The image captures Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm in the heat of battle with a bunch of Sentinels. One thing fans really hope from the McU’s X-Men is that they’ll wear their classic outfits, particularly Wolverine, and that’s exactly what Pastrana’s delivered in his artwork. With the arrival of Dark Phoenix in theaters, there are now two X-Men films dedicated solely to the formidable powers of Jean Grey: this film and 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, both of which are adaptations of the immensely popular "Dark Phoenix Saga" comics storyline. Other than Wolverine, no other X-Men has received quite as much cinematic devotion as Jean Grey, which begs the question: what is so special about this soft-spoken, mild-mannered redhead?
On the surface, Jean doesn't seem like the most obvious contender for "strongest X-Man." In everything from the comics to the animated series to the films, Jean is always portrayed as loyal, gentle, and kind. If “Dark Phoenix” feels like the nadir of 21st century blockbuster cinema, that’s not because it’s the worst film of its kind — hell, it’s not even the worst installment of its franchise — but rather because it might be the only $200 million tentpole that has no evident reason to exist. The movie industry is sustained by a silent contract between Hollywood and its audience, which stipulates studios and ticket buyers will both spend too much of their money to sit together in a room so dark that no one can see the line that separates art from commerce. The brazen needlessness of the twelfth film in the “X-Men” saga is nothing less (and nothing more) than a direct breach of that contract; it’s like watching a superhero movie with the lights on.

Warning: this review contains spoilers for "The Dark Phoenix Saga" and Avengers: Endgame.
“The Dark Phoenix Saga,” the classic Marvel Comics story arc written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne, is one of the most iconic Marvel tales of all time. It focuses on Jean Grey, one of the original X-Men (and Professor Charles Xavier’s prize pupil), whose exposure to a solar flare amps up her already considerable telepathic and telekinetic powers to an unforeseen degree, driving her to the brink of madness and turning her into one of the most powerful, destructive beings in the universe, while various alien races and enemies of the X-Men either seek to destroy or corrupt her.

Dark Phoenix is set to bring an end to the 20-year X-Men cinematic franchise, but something that’s arguably overshadowing that is all the interest in where the Children of the Atom go next now that Disney has bought out Fox and Marvel Studios has the rights to the characters. The general feeling is that Kevin Feige will simply reboot them all, but do the cast of the upcoming movie have any clue either way?
ComicBook.com caught up with Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Alexandra Shipp (Storm) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and asked if they were aware of what might happen in the future. Specifically, Sheridan was asked if he’d be up for a Cyclops solo film, as Avengers: Endgame writers Markus and McFeely have said they’d like to tackle Scott Summers in the McU.

With Disney’s buyout of Fox now complete, Marvel Studios has the rights back to the X-Men, meaning it’s only a matter of time before we get the uncanny mutants rebooted within the McU. Understandably, fans are mostly excited for a new version of Wolverine who can finally rub shoulders with Hulk or Spider-Man, but one Avengers: Endgame creative has hopes that the studio will finally do another character justice.
In an interview with Fandango, Endgame writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely were asked which X-Men they’d like to write for. McFeely pointed out that Markus is a big Cyclops fan and the scribe then explained that he’d like to see the field leader of the team be treated with some “respect” on the big screen.
“I’ve always wanted to see Cyclops done with some respect. Feel he’s gotten a raw deal.”

With Disney’s buyout of Fox, that means Marvel Studios now has the rights to the X-Men at last. We’ve had it confirmed that the upcoming Dark Phoenix will be the final installment in the current franchise, which must mean that Marvel has plans to reboot the adventures of Professor X and his mutant charges in the not-so-distant future. But what if they decided to move forward by going back and rehiring some former stars of the movies?
For instance, could James Marsden return as Cyclops in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? ComicBook.com put the question to the actor and naturally, the star of the original trilogy and X-Men: Days of Future Past revealed that he’d be “totally open” to that possibility if there was a way that could happen.
“Sure, I’d be down. I think that world, there just are no rules. You can do whatever you want.

About a year ago it was announced that comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis was hired to write the script for a Kitty Pryde X-Men movie that was going by the name of 143.
We haven’t heard much about the film since and assumed that it wasn’t going to happen due to the Disney and Fox merger. But, according to Bendis he is currently actively working on it, so the film hasn’t been killed off yet. When asked about the status of the project by a fan on Twitter, he responded:
Yeah, I’m working on it right now. It’s vvvvvvvery surreal and delightful to be so deep inside the X mansion and the fortress of solitude at the same time https://t.co/trsQtX4rS9

If there’s one character who’s traditionally been given the short shrift in the X-Men movie franchise, it’s Cyclops. Though always at the forefront of the children of the atom’s stories in the comics, the original trilogy never really seemed to know what to do with him, despite a solid bit of casting in James Marsden. Tye Sheridan took over the role as the younger Scott Summers in X-Men: Apocalypse, but again, he was just part of the ensemble and not the stalwart leader we know from the page.
Cyke fans will be pleased by Sheridan’s comments to Screen Rant, then, that his character has matured a lot by the time we catch up with him in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Obviously, the plot revolves around his girlfriend Jean Grey becoming the dangerous, all-powerful Phoenix, so naturally, Scott should have a hugely emotional arc in the movie as well.

Not many actors get the opportunity to work with a true auteur behind the camera, let alone several. Though he was conspicuously absent from last Sunday’s Super Bowl extravaganza, the Merc is clearly making up for lost time.
After two zany poster reveals, we finally got the first full-blown trailer for Deadpool 2. Initially unveiled earlier this week, it was a hilarious, downright meta preview of the Merc’s next big-screen adventure, which swings its doors open to both Domino (Zazie Beetz) and our favorite time-traveling bandit, Cable.
Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin has signed on to play the latter anti-hero, who will presumably enjoy a small origin story of his own based on the above teaser. It’s a suitably dark and bleak introduction to a character who’s been described as a one-eyed wrecking ball. He’s also the biological son of Cyclops (Scott Summers) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone), which ought to lend Ryan Reynolds plenty of ammunition for one or three X-Men-related gags.

Weekly comic book events rarely work out well. It is one thing to have a story that crossover from series to series, but when you have a self-contained book with one writer and a group of artist the time crunch can lead to some mediocre work. As an event, Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey suffered from some of the problems that have been haunted Marvel for some time now, like the inconsistency in the quality of the art, despite those misgivings it provided a much-needed boost to the world of the X-Men.
I do not envy writer Matthew Rosenberg as this story has a lot of inherit challenges most would not be able to overcome. Based on its concept alone it is begging to be this nostalgia piece that simply reminds you of...

Wolverine and Cyclops were never the best of buds in the X-Men movie franchise, but there are clearly no hard feelings between actors Hugh Jackman and James Marsden in real life. Just check out how happy the pair were to reunite recently in the gallery below.
Two of the original cast members of the franchise got together yesterday and shared their meeting on their Instagram accounts. Marsden captioned his photo with a fun nod to the rivalry between Logan and Scott Summers: “Ran into an “old friend” early this morning!” he commented, before adding that it was genuinely great to meet up with his old co-star.
Jackman also had a joking tone in the caption for his post. “Our actual height difference revealed,” the Australian actor said simply. This references the fact that, on the set of 2000’s X-Men, Marsden had to wear platform shoes so that he could...

As the film community continues to reel from the Disney acquisition of Fox, Ryan Reynolds is continuing to pimp out Deadpool 2. The relationship between Jean Grey and Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops in the X-Men franchise has always been a big deal. Especially in the comic books. If you’ve seen Stranger Things, which, let’s face it, you likely have, you’ve probably had the thought: “Hey, this is a bit like X-Men.” Apparently, that’s something which digital artist/uberfan Boss Logic seems to have thought of as well, as he’s now taken the similarity and run with it, creating a couple of images that reimagine the kids of Netflix’s hit sci-fi show as Marvel heroes.
Unsurprisingly, one picture sees Eleven merged with Jean Grey/Phoenix, as there’s a lot of crossover between the two characters. For instance, both struggle to control their growing telekinetic abilities but could be hugely powerful if they let go. In Stranger Things season 2, for example, Eleven managed to close the gate to the Upside Down, even levitating off the ground in the process. It recalled a similar moment when Jean unleashed her powers in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

2016’s Deadpool was an especially memorable flick not just because of the movie itself, but because of the amazing marketing it had. From the reveal of Deadpool’s costume to the countless viral videos released in celebration of the flick, it certainly knew how to make a splash. To top that marketing campaign would be a tough accomplishment, indeed, but its sequel, Deadpool 2, may be well on its way to doing so.

X-Men films have a tendency to reveal 17 too many mutants at a time. While that’s sometimes incredibly annoying from a narrative standpoint, it’s also part of the fun of going into a new X-Men movie to begin with.
