In Gregory Widen's 1995 horror film "The Prophecy," angels look like ordinary people but are a little ... off. They are typically clad in black suits, but move like birds, snapping their heads around quickly, as if constantly aware of potential danger. They also have unnatural balance, able to perch on the edges of buildings or the backs of chairs without toppling over. When an angel calls Uziel (Jeff Cadiente) dies in the first "Prophecy," a medical examiner finds that the corpse is missing its eyes and that its blood chemistry is similar to that of an unborn fetus. Angels, it seems, are also intersex, possessing both a penis and a vagina. Angels, it seems, lurk among us, resentful of humanity.

The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. We’re still waiting to hear a release date for that, as obviously the company wasn’t able to meet the hoped-for October release window – but while we wait for the special physical media release, Trick or Treat is set to making its streaming debut on the Screambox service this Friday, October 27th! Just in time for Halloween viewing!
Directed by Charles Martin Smith from a screenplay by Rhet Topham, Joel Soisson, and Michael S. The Dracula 2000 episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror in the year 2000 was something. Yeah, that’s it, it was something. A lot of it happened, some of it was great, some of it was good, and some of it, not so much. Actually, if the internet crowd is to be believed, the early 2000s, especially the year 2000 were abysmal for horror. We did get a few memorable films released in 2000 like the first Final Destination film, Cherry Falls, Ginger Snaps, The Cell, and American Psycho. However, the scales had some serious bad on the other side to balance it all out. Films like Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, Hellraiser: Inferno, Christina’s House, and Dracula 2000 (watch it Here) came and...

Last week, we heard the awesome news that the 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. A specific date for this release has not yet been announced, just that they’re hoping to get it out into the world by the end of 2023 – and ideally, of course, it would be out in October. Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures on this release, and now Felsher has revealed some details to Rue Morgue, confirming that we can expect to see a documentary, a commentary, and interviews on the disc.

The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat is one of my all-time favorites, but since the VHS era it has only gotten a barebones DVD release (which is available for a high price Here) and a Blu-ray in Germany. So this ranks high as some of the coolest news I’ve seen lately: Synapse Films is putting together a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) of Trick or Treat that they’re hoping to send out into the world by the end of 2023!
Full details on the release aren’t available at this time, as they’re too early in the process, but Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures to make sure it’s the best it can be. The livestream announcement can be viewed on Facebook.

In the world of motion picture filmmaking there's only one thing we know for sure: Children + Corn = Profit. But there's a trick to it. You can't use just any old corn. It's gotta be murder corn. That's how Stephen King envisioned this, and we gotta stay true to his original vision.
Everything else about Stephen King's original vision for "Children of the Corn," however, has long since been chucked — excuse me, "shucked" — out the window. What started as a 1977 short story in the pages of "Penthouse," about a bickering couple who wanders into a small farming town where the children were all cultists who believe in killing all adults, became a hit movie in 1984, and eventually devolved into an impossibly long-running straight-to-video franchise. 11 films and counting! (12 if you include the 1983 short film "Disciples of the Crow!")
You don't keep making that many movies if you aren't making money, and you...

Clive Barker's "Hellraiser" series is one of the most recognizable franchises in modern horror history. The gothic horror saga that combined Bdsm, queer subtext, and philosophical agony has proven to be a favorite with fans for decades.
In adapting his own novella, "The Hellbound Heart," Barker brought some much-needed freshness to horror in the 1980s at a time when the slasher villain ruled the roost. Centered on a mysterious puzzle box, the series revealed the demonic sado-masochistic forces of the Cenobites, a priest-like order of former humans who harvest souls for violent experiments. The head of these Cenobites, known as Pinhead, is one of the true icons of horror villainy. Freddy Krueger may offer great one-liners and Jason can slice you up good, but Pinhead is the one who gets into your head.
The "Hellraiser" franchise is a curious mish-mash of great ideas, ambition, studio meddling, and harried script rewrites.

"A wonderful coming of age story." Kdmg has unveiled the official trailer for a kooky comedy titled My Best Worst Adventure, described the "family adventure of the fall." This adventure comedy is about a teen sent to Thailand who discovers buffalo racing - "a kind of Kentucky Derby on steroids, without horses, saddles or rules." The short synopsis only sets up the premise: There are worse things than death. Especially for a testy American teen sent to stay with her eccentric Thai grandmother... Written and directed by Joel Soisson, the film stars Lily Patra, Pan Rugtawatr and Eoin O'Brien. And it arrives on VOD in the US starting in September. This looks like a very strange setup for a film, and it seems like a hard sell, but maybe it will be enjoyable. I dig the rural Thailand vibe to this, even though it's made by an American filmmaker. Australian actress Emma Hamilton is set to star in Fatal Beauty, a Mar Vista Entertainment indie feature written and directed by Joel Soisson. It follows Trevor and Michelle Gustafson (Hamilton) who have what most would think is the typical suburban life. When new neighbors move in next door, tensions between Michelle and Trevor build up, and sinister motives from neighbors turn this quiet neighborhood into a place of chaos, shame, and fear. Margret Huddleston, Michael Leahy, and Lori Leahy are producing the project which will begin filming this month. Hamilton, whose credits include the Australian series, Hyde & Seek, and Showtime’s The Tudors, is repped by The Rosenzweig Group, Abrams Artists and Troika in the UK.

There's another Children of the Corn movie coming out! Children of the Corn: Runaway is the tenth installment of the long-running horror franchise. It all started with the adaptation of Stephen King's novel that was released way back in 1984.
Apparently, there's a decent sized audience that enjoys watching an evil cult full of kids killing adults. This one features an adorable little blonde girl smashing something with a hammer. I remember watching that first film for the first time. I was a kid and snuck out to watch it with some friends. It kinda jacked me up, but I also enjoyed the thrill of watching it. Unfortunately, none of the sequels were as good or as interesting as the first movie. I've watched them though, and I'll end up eventually watching this one as well.

Children of the Corn: Runaway is the tenth horror film in this franchise, unbelievably. Children of the Corn: Genesis (2011) was the previous intonation of Stephen King's short story. Writer Joel Soisson has written both films. This time, John Gulager (Piranha 3Dd) takes the helm. Marci Miller (Most Likely to Die, 2015) stars, along with: Blaine Maye (Unnatural) and Lynn Andrews III. The film's first trailer is hosted here along with the film's DVD cover. This time, a young woman escapes a child cult, in a Midwestern town. She spends the next ten years in hiding. But, something is following her. Forced to protect her child, Ruth (Miller) must face this cult, before it kills her only child. Children of the Corn: Runaway is a multi-company production. Dimension Films has organized this title as they did with Genesis. They have also teamed up with Gatlin Returns and Strike Accord, to finish the film's production.

I’ll confess. I have a real mushy soft spot for Heavy Metal music. Back in the ‘80s, in my teen years, my buddy Nick and I would crank the latest from Kiss, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Cinderella, etc. And there’s something specifically about Metal tailored to teenagers – that heightened sense of drama we feel at that age, the hormonal urges, and the need to push back against ‘society’. (Right – but please give us our allowances to consume products, okay?)
But Metal also equated with power, which was aligned with evil, and before long, many parents came up with the notion that Metal was Satan’s music. (Is the Pmrc still a thing? Brr.) Well, marketing is marketing, and few Metal bands fought the label (hell, some even embraced it). So it seemed the timing was right for that satanic safe haven, the Horror Film, to meet up with the...

Jeanne Tripplehorn (Big Love) and Callum Keith Rennie (Memento) have joined the cast of Korchula Productions’ Little Pink House, which is about to go into production in Vancouver.
Tripplehorn and Rennie join Catherine Keener on the film, which tells the true story of a small-town nurse who rose to worldwide attention when she stood up to powerful politicians determined to bulldoze her home and hand the land over to a multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical company.
Courtney Moorehead Balaker wrote the script and will direct.
Shawn Williamson’s Brightlight Pictures will co-produce the film. Balaker, Ted Balaker and Joel Soisson will produce, with Shawn Williamson executive producing.
The film’s script was a finalist for the 2015 Athena List, which recognizes the best and most marketable unproduced screenplays with strong female protagonists.

Back in 2012, Nicolas Winding Refn let word slip that he’s overseeing what will either be a remake or a new chapter in the Maniac Cop franchise which most people had, not without cause, written off as finished. After three years of silence, we know who will be tackling the job: director John Hyams and writer Ed Brubaker. The gleefully scuzzy Maniac Cop series, just in case you were unaware, belongs to the Larry Cohen school of genre exploitation, and is about an undead police officer on a killing spree (three of them, ultimately). The 1988 original stars two famous chins in Bruce Campbell and Robert Z'Dar. Z'dar continued on his maniacal path through both sequels; Robert Davi did the investigating in the second and third instalments; and part three (Badge Of Silence) has Jackie Earl Haley in it. All three were produced by Cohen and directed by William Lustig (with...

The world of online dating is a bizarre concept all its own. It’s a world where we openly expose our most personal selves to absolute strangers. As if that isn’t frightening enough, what if you were in a foreign country with very little personal contact? This is the set-up of Cam2Cam, a new thriller by director Joel Soisson set against the backdrop of Thailand’s video sex chat community.

Cam a lot: Soisson’s Stilted Thriller as Dated as it is Laughably Inarticulate
The only thing horrifying in Joel Soisson’s techno born thriller Cam2Cam is the awful grammatical chatroom communication utilized by its sublimely half-witted characters. Even in the twitter age where the systemic butchering of language from rampant acronyms to abbreviations for our limited character space, these people seem simply primordial, especially considering that English is their first language. While Soisson’s Bangkok based narrative certainly gets the locale right for a nexus of potential seedy strangeness, where sex tourism without any rational limits runs virulently unsanctioned, there’s nothing else remotely inspired about any of the inane antics in a thriller that already seems behind the times in its tech lingo as concerns digitalized sex for sale.

Over the last two or so years there’s been a noticeable boom in what I’m coining the “techno-horror” genre (technology based horror), which isn’t very surprising considering how we’ve all become sheeple with iPhones glued to our hands – but that movie would essentially be nothing but a new-age zombie flick.
A movie like Cam2Cam takes a bit of commonplace internet entertainment, like video chatting, and introduces a sadistic twist that confirms creeping paranoias already planted in our brains. Nothing is safe online, nor sacred, as hackers can get just about any information they’d need simply by sending a virus via email or download. Age, hair color, mother’s maiden name, college Gpa; it’s all accessible to the right people – including your current location. Movies like The Den have already proved that the internet is a vastly more horrifying beast than we could ever imagine,...

Sledge, a ‘bloody’ good horror-comedy in the tradition of Tucker and Dale vs. Evil and Shaun of the Dead, premieres on VOD September 2nd and DVD on October 7th.
A spoof of the horror genre, and littered with nods and references to fright flicks of yesteryear, the film fixes on a psychopath who not only believes he’s in a movie and video game but that he’s the hero of this story.

Putting perverts, Internet webcams, and pretty foreigners together is just asking for trouble, but especially if you drop them all into the seedy underbelly of Bangkok. That’s what happens in director Joel Soisson’s “Cam2Cam.” Soisson, for a while there, was the go-to guy for direct-to-dvd horror sequels, having helmed two “Prophecy” and two “Pulse” sequels. If you’ve never any of those movies, don’t worry, most people haven’t, either. “Cam2Cam” looks pretty bloody, and once again reminds me why I have my computer’s camera permanently disabled. Newly-arrived Allie Westbrook meets a pair of ex-pats, Michael and Marit, who perform on a provocative interactive website. Chicago – “Piranha 3Dd” is such a pathetic excuse for entertainment that it doesn’t even deserve to be regarded as a film. It’s just soft-core porn stuffed with shoddy special effects. The titillation factor is zilch and the scare factor is even lower than that. Even frat boys under the influence of multiple drugs may have difficulty finding this dreck watchable, let alone funny.
Director John Gulager is the Project Greenlight winner whose 2005 schlock-fest, “Feast,” still remains his crowning achievement. He appears to have no knowledge of why camp has the potential to be amusing. Truly funny camp must be constructed with a degree of sincerity. “The Room” is a timeless comedy classic because its eccentric creator, Tommy Wiseau, mistakenly thought he was making a searing relationship drama. You simply can’t make a movie like that on purpose. Everyone who does fails spectacularly.

Piranha 3Dd the sequel to the campy (but fun) 'monster' film didn't do incredibly well in the box office. Now it's available for your home viewing pleasure and Eric is here to help you decide wether it's a good thing you missed it in theaters or if it's worth adding to your home collection.
A school of mutated piranhas enter a water park through its piping systems. The step-daughter of its crooked co-owner must find a way to close off the man-eating creatures' access to the amusement facility. The employees of the park attempt to rescue the thrill-seeking swimmers before they're devoured by the aquatic monsters.
Roger Corman's name may not be found in the credits of this sequel, but his spirit is felt throughout it. It's the usual over-the-top creature feature we've all become accustomed to seeing from the B-movie king. Imagine Jaws if it took place in...

Photo: Radius TWC When I received the Blu-ray for Piranha 3Dd, easily one of the worst films of the year so far (my review here), I sort of laughed, imagining I would never even remove the plastic wrap. Then I flipped it over to see an audio commentary with director John Gulager, producer and co-writer Joel Soisson and co-writer Marcus Dunstan. I've done articles detailing tidbits learned from audio commentaries before such as David Fincher's for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (find that here) and Kevin did one for David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method (find that here). Of course, those were looking at films we tend to take a little more seriously, but I thought this might be fun so what the hell. Listed at 83 minutes the film actually runs around only 70, but Gulager, Soisson and Dunstan are sure to use all 83. Separating the trio out isn't exactly easy,...

There is only one way to "enjoy" Piranha 3Dd and that is drunk and with as many friends as possible, most of you hardly paying attention to what is going on in the film. I haven't seen director John Gulager's Project Greenlight venture Feast, which spawned a pair of sequels after becoming a buzzed about horror film back in 2005, but if this film is any indication of its quality I hope I never do. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst movies I have seen in the last several years. For screenwriters Patrick Melton, Marcus Dunstan and Joel Soisson to leave their names attached as "writers" is an insult to the word. Prior to Piranha 3Dd, Melton and Dunstan were responsible for writing several of the Saw sequels and Soisson can lay claim to the likes of Mimic 2, The Prophecy: Forsaken and Children of the Corn: Genesis among others.
