The premiere for Wallander's fourth and final season aired last night, and star Kenneth Branagh recently said goodbye to the character in a Radio Times article and a few PBS videos.

Getting fiancé Michael Turchin to say yes to his proposal was easy for Lance Bass, but finding a ring to make it happen was one tough task. "He went to three stores and couldn't find anything," a source tells People. "He was frustrated that they don't make men's rings anywhere. He said it's impossible. The fourth store was Saks. He saw a David Yurman ring and he knew that was the one, so he bought it. He said it spoke to him." With the hardest part finally out of the way, Bass, 34, was ready to pop the question in Jackson Square in New Orleans.

New Tricks Season Nine
New Tricks has become one of the staples of British TV over the last decade and its success is hardly surprising given the quality of the cast. Regulars include Dennis Waterman (Minder), James Bolam (The Beiderbecke Affair) and of course Amanda Redman (Honest). The show is a humorous drama about a group of haggard old cops who are tasked with solving cold cases. The evidence is typically scarce, the witnesses are dead, senile or unwilling to talk and aside from the other obstacles they face, the squad members have to try and get along with each other. When they’re in the mood, the team are quite effective but all too often DS Sandra Pullman (Redman) is forced to bang heads together to get things done.
New Tricks Season Nine starts with the kind of jaw dropping moment that fans of long-running shows dread.

Back in the UK, Neil Dudgeon has well and truly established himself as the face of Midsomer Murders. Now fans of the show in the U.S. can get their first look at the man who replaced John Nettles (remember him?) with the release of Acorn Media’s Midsomer Murders set 21. The four stories in this four-disc set were aired in the UK just last year and have never been broadcast on U.S. TV.
Death in the Slow Lane is the first feature length story in Midsomer Murders set 21. The episode begins with John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) arriving in Britain’s most dangerous village as the heir apparent to his cousin Tom. DS Jones (Jason Hughes) isn’t exactly enamored with his new Dci who mocks his attempts to restore an old race car. Their differences are quickly forgotten when...

The Secret of Crickley Hall BBC One
N Conrad
Episode one of The Secret of Crickley Hall was somewhat silly but thoroughly entertaining. In contrast, episode two was absolutely terrifying. At this point in the story, I am wondering if Magda Cribben (Sarah Smart) may be even more deranged than her sadistic brother Augustus (Douglas Henshall). That being said, Maurice Stafford, Gordon Pyke and Lili Peel all seem a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
The flashback game is a dangerous one to play as you can easily lose your audience – a la Lost. However, the folks behind Crickley Hall seamlessly managed to weave together footage from 1943 and the modern era without disrupting the flow of either of the overlapping story lines. On the performance front, Suranne Jones was at the center of the pre-publicity and she has done well in the role of Eva. However, for my money Olivia Cooke...

BBC One The Secrets of Crickley Hall

The Secret of Crickley Hall got off to a lackluster start but the BBC drama picked up enough steam by the end of episode one to convince me that it would be well worth my time to watch the next installment.
The show began with Eve Caleigh (Suranne Jones) falling asleep at the park only to find that her toddler had gone Awol while she was sleeping. A year later, the Caleigh family moved into a scary looking mansion. The house had “haunted” written all over it and it was no surprise to learn that a horde of ghostly orphans were roaming the property. Ok, so the basic premise is not exactly original but The Secret of Crickley Hall has a twist because it turns out that the ghosts know the whereabouts of Eve’s long lost kid.

Some men are born unhappy. Others achieve a level of unhappiness. Some men have unhappiness thrust upon them. To be honest, I always had Kurt Wallander pegged as someone who was miserable from birth. You know the type, one of those guys with an “End is Nigh” sandwich-board resting on his chest or one of those hecklers from the Muppets – only without the humor. Tonight’s episode made me reevaluate Wallander. Could it be that he is just incredibly unlucky?
An Event in Autumn began with Wallander’s facial muscles producing something that could almost pass for a smile. He had found new love with Vanja Andersson (Saskia Reeves) and the happy couple were just settling into a nice new home. What could possibly go wrong? Well it turned out that his neighbor was a psycho who had buried a dead girl in Kurt’s yard.

14 year old Maisie Williams stars alongside Suranne Jones in the BBC One adaptation of James Herbert's best-selling ghost story The Secret of Crickley Hall.
Maisie (represented by Louise Johnston Management) has received much acclaim for her screen debut portrayal of Arya in Game of Thrones, which is back for a second series in April.
The Secret of Crickley Hall tells the story of family who move to Crickley Hall to start a new life after their son goes missing. But they quickly discover the building is haunted and events there begin to terrorise them.
Written and directed by Joe Ahearne, this three-part drama is a modern day ghost story especially for Halloween. Told in a dual timeframe, it is full of scares yet underpinned by the heart-breaking story of a family needing to heal and ghosts who need to be laid to rest.

2011 has produced some great dramas so far but as we head into the Fall, the major networks may have saved the best until last. The BBC and ITV tend to play their cards close to their chest so the exact air dates for many shows remain unknown and some shows that are slated for 2011 may end up being pushed back to 2012. However, as things stand right now, the following dramas are likely to be among the best British TV shows aired in what remains on 2011.
Downton Abbey Season Two. Fans in the USA will have to wait until early 2012 to the see the next installment of Julian Fellowes’ wildly popular period drama but fans in Britain only have to wait until next month for the new season to begin.

The second installment of Matthew Graham’s two parter got off to a promising start as we were introduced to the doppleganger of the Doctor. The two Doctors (unbeknown to Amy Pond) switched shoes and conducted an improptu experiment to see whether everyone else would be able to tell the real Timelord from the fake. No one could. Meanwhile, Casualty 1909 star Sarah Smart went on the rampage as the deranged doppleganger Jennifer and caused her real self to be killed much to the chagrin of her unwitting accomplice, Rory. Meanwhile all of the other dopplegangers and humans gradually started to make friends although Marshall Lancester had a disappointingly small role both as a human and a ganger. Travers on first inspection, is ITVs answer to Clive Reader (Rupert Penry-Jones) of Silk. However, Travers – leave my moral compass at home- type of attitude only extends to his time in court whereas Reader was amoral 24/7. Purefoy is perhaps better known for his roles in the Us (Rome, Camelot etc) so it was nice to see him on English TV in an English made show. He seems like someone who should be a lawyer, and whether that is just how he is or whether that is because he is such a good actor, the end result is the same.

The Doctor's (Matt Smith) ganger screams in agony, prompting the real Doctor to tell him the Flesh has to cope with their past regenerations. Ganger Doctor asks if he wants a Jelly Baby. The Doctor wants more proof that he's really him and they talk with each other. Rory (Arthur Darvill) and Amy (Karen Gillan) may not trust them, but the two Doctors are on the same wavelength, "great minds" and all that. His plan is to save them all and ganger Doctor was thinking that too. "It's just so inspiring to hear me say it." Amy notices the different shoes one of them's wearing but can't tell them apart. Both the Doctors have "established a protocol." They both tell Amy to "breathe." Obviously for when she's having the baby. Doctor; "I'm starting to get a sense of just how impressive it is to hang out with me...Yowza." He...

Rory (Arthur Darvill) plays darts with Amy (Karen Gillan) whilst the Doctor (Matt Smith) still attempts to get a fix on whether Amy is pregnant or not. He volunteers to drop them off for fish and chips, but Amy wants to be a part of whatever he's up to. So what was he up to on the sly, it couldn't really have been landing on that island as that was the result of the freak solar storm, or was it? A solar tsunami strands them on an island, housing a monastery. Doctor: "behold a cockerel, love a cockerel." Referring to the weather vane. Always have to have one of those around. Rory says it's not medieval as he can hear Dusty Springfield. Being the Doctor he can't resist nosing around.

The “maverick doctor” is a staple of television, with the contemporary benchmark being Fox’s House; a series ITV1′s new medical drama won’t escape lazy comparison to. But neurosurgeon Gabriel Monroe (James Nesbitt) isn’t a grouchy Holmesian genius — he’s an egomaniac with a better bedside manner, and a repertoire of great lines like “you’re taking a knife to someone’s head; the only difference between you and a psychopath is good A-levels.”
Nothing about Monroe’s premise is exactly fresh and original, but it’s a good example of classic ideas, elevated by Nesbitt’s magnetic performance, an intelligent script from Peter Bowker (Blackpool), and slick direction by Paul McGuigan (the filmmaker behind Gangster No1 who’s carving a niche for himself on UK drama between this and BBC1′s Sherlock.)
