On August 16th, Netflix will debut Depp v. Heard, a three-part docuseries about the infamous Virginia defamation trial between actor-exes Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Though the seven-week trial wrapped on June 1, 2022, with the court finding Heard liable on three counts of defamation (awarding Depp $10.35 million in damages) and Depp liable on one count of defamation (awarding Heard $2 million in damages), its reverberations continue to this day — including how Team Depp managed to rally a number of opportunistic online content creators to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s defense...

If you can believe it, which you have every reason not to if you’ve been following the constant turmoil that’s plagued the movie everywhere it goes, The New Mutants arrives in theaters today. Obviously, though, with the world still in the midst of a pandemic and the industry not even close to returning to business as usual, there’s literally no way to gauge if the long wait for the X-Men spinoff will be worth it for new rights-holders Disney from a box office perspective.
We won’t be able to get a full critical consensus, either, as many outlets are refusing to attend screenings based on their concerns about personal safety and social distancing protocols, so the jury looks to be out on The New Mutants for at least a little while longer. One major positive though is that Josh Boone’s horror-tinged comic book flick has...

Sometimes it’s just hard for us to understand the things celebrities say or do, and other times things just get very bizarre. And as is most common, one such situation recently popped up on social media and started trending for all the wrong reasons.
Actor Ray Park, who played Darth Maul in the Star Wars franchise, was reportedly set to reprise his role as the dual-saber wielding Dathomirian in future projects, but an unexpected Instagram post might just have irrevocably jeopardized the situation.
On Friday, a post went up on the actor’s Instagram page that seemingly showed Park engaging in sexual activities with his wife. The post has since been deleted, but some fans are wondering if his profile had been hacked and as of now, there’s been no statement from the actor himself. There’s even a rumor going around with some people claiming that this was an act of revenge,...

Roughly two years after allegations of sexual misconduct and assault by multiple fans resulted in his firing from now-defunct Defy Media amid the ascension of the #MeToo movement, Honest Trailers creator Andy Signore is speaking out.
The most vocal of Signore’s accusers were April O’Donnell and Emma Bowers. O’Donnell alleged that Signore tried to force sex toys inside of her, took pictures of her without her permission, and offered her a position at Honest Trailers' parent channel ScreenJunkies in exchange for sexual favors. After they shared their stories, multiple other women stepped forward to describe instances when harassed them or came onto them in an untoward fashion via social media.
In a video on his new Popcorned Planet channel titled #MeToo Misfire -- An Honest Defense Of Andy Signore, Signore apologizes for “awkwardly flirt[ing] with and mak[ing] inappropriate comments to some of my fans -- despite being married.

Andy Signore, the creator of Screen Junkies’ Emmy-nominated Honest Trailers YouTube series -- who was fired from now-defunct parent company Defy Media in Oct. 2017 amid allegations of sexual misconduct -- has settled a countersuit that he filed against Defy in the wake of his termination.
Before its shuttering, Defy fired Signore in 2017, citing “egregious and intolerable behavior.” At the time, one accuser claimed that Signore “took out sex toys and tried to force them in me.” In response, Signore sued Defy last August for breach of contract and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and also claimed that Defy fostered a “culture of profanity and obscenity.” On Monday, Signore’s attorney dismissed the suit, Variety reports, following a notice of settlement. The terms were not disclosed.

Honest Trailers creator Andy Signore is suing his former employer Defy Media, and is also considering suing one of several women who came forward last October to allege that he had sexually abused and harassed them, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The allegations resulted in Defy Media firing Signore in October. Now, he's suing the company for -- among other claims -- breach of contract and negligent infliction of emotional distress. In a statement, he said Defy Media failed to conduct a thorough investigation after the allegations against him surfaced, and instead used the #MeToo movement — which one of Signore’s accusers, Emma Bowers, mentioned was the reason she came forward — to fire him.
Statements in the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, claim Signore told Defy Media he had proof that his relationship with Bowers was consensual. The lawsuit also alleges that Defy Media's corporate culture was conducive to sexual misconduct.

Andy Signore, the Emmy-nominated creator of popular web series Honest Trailers, is suing the company that fired him last year over allegations of sexual harassment.
The wide-ranging suit filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court (read it here) alleges breach of contract, multiple violations of the state Labor Code and more. Signore believes his firing was fiscally motivated. “This case is not about distrusting accusers of sexual assault or harassment,” the suit states. “This case is not about denigrating the #MeToo movement. This case is about preserving the integrity and influence of such movements by ensuring that powerful organizations are not permitted to exploit them for financial gain.”

Andy Signore, the creator of Screen Junkies’ “Honest Trailers,” filed a lawsuit Wednesday alleging that he was wrongfully fired for sexual harassment last fall.
Defy Media fired Signore on Oct. 8, citing a pattern of “egregious and intolerable behavior.” A woman had accused him in August 2017 of trying to sexually assault her on several occasions, and claimed that Signore threatened to fire her boyfriend if she complained. Several other women also complained of Signore’s conduct on Oct. 6, the day after the New York Times first exposed Harvey Weinstein’s harassment settlements and spurred a social media movement over the subject.
Signore was fired two days later, the same day that Weinstein was fired from the Weinstein Co. In the lawsuit, Signore alleges that Defy did not do any investigation before firing him and stripping him of his stake in the company.

The first San Diego Comic-Con of the #MeToo era started with no mention of sexual harassment or Comic-Con mainstay Chris Hardwick, who is absent this year after accusations that he emotionally and sexually abused former girlfriend Chloe Dykstra.
When Sdcc programming director Eddie Ibrahim gave his traditional kick off speech in Hall H on Thursday morning, he focused on tips for staying healthy and reminding attendees not to pirate footage shown to fans during Comic-Con. It was a notable omission after a year that included accusations of misconduct against several men in the geek pop culture space.
Last year, both Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles and “Honest Trailers” creator Andy Signore were accused of sexual harassment. And Hardwick stepped down as moderator of several Comic-Con panels after his Dykstra accused him.

Defy Media has sold its flagship Screen Junkies brand -- a TV, film, and pop culture hub that comprises the wildly beloved Honest Trailers YouTube channel -- to Fandom, a wiki (or online encyclopedia) hosting service that operates 400,000 communities across the web centered around fan-centric topics like video games, movies, and television shows.
Screen Junkies counts 8 million subscribers and 2 billion lifetime views across all of its YouTube channels, while Fandom -- which is also known as Wikia -- attracts an audience of 200 million monthly unique visitors, according to Variety. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The sale arrives roughly nine months after Screen Junkies creator Andy Signore was let go from Defy Media after being accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women. Screen Junkies general manager Michael Chiang told Variety, however, that the sale was unrelated to that incident.

Three-time Oscar nominee “Baby Driver” received the dubious honor of an “Honest Trailers” parody. Tuesday’s four-minute montage teases writer-director Edgar Wright for laboring 22 years on what became his highest-grossing film ($227 million worldwide), and calls out his namesake hero (Ansel Elgort) for criminal oversights and “white-boy dancing.”
Narrator Jon Bailey is less playful when reminding viewers that action and music-infused plot also features “the creepy, bank-robbing ringleader Doc, who’s even more creepy because he’s played by a pre-scandal Kevin Spacey … who’s even more creepy because he carries around a little box of kids’ toys,” and professes to his decades-younger getaway driver, “You are my lucky charm.”
Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct against 30-plus men and boys since late October, news that caused Ridley Scott to swap Spacey for Christopher Plummer in “All the Money in the World.” Plummer’s face is superimposed onto Spacey’s...

Oscars Honest Trailer: ‘The Shape of Water’ and ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Romances Are ‘Creepy’ — Watch
Revving up for the film industry’s biggest night, Screen Junkies has released its traditional Oscars edition of Honest Trailers. At this year’s Academy Awards — aka “Hollywood’s annual award show for the best films released between late November and late December” — nine films will compete for Best Picture, including one jokingly called, “Three Racists Inside Ebbing, Missouri.”
Screen Junkies zeroed in on “sounds creepy when you strip the art away from it” as an unintentional theme shared by both 13-times nominated “The Shape of Water,” and Best Adapted Screenplay favorite “Call Me By Your Name,” which everyone knows is “set during the great Italian shirt shortage of 1983.” The Honest Trailers narrator second-guesses hyping respective love stories between woman (Sally Hawkins) and “fish prisoner” (Doug Jones), and grad student (Armie Hammer) and teenager (Timothée Chalamet).
The six-minute trailer also reminisces about past ceremonies, from Envelopegate to former host Ellen DeGeneres’ 2014 star-studded audience selfie,...

The 11 Biggest Industry Changes of 2017: Harassment Accusations, ‘Get Out’ Is a Juggernaut, and More
If 2016 was the year of celebrity deaths, 2017 was the year of celebrity careers (finally) felled by sexual misconduct. Between rising ticket prices, fewer commissioned original screenplays, and a new Republican administration, few expected the past 12 months to be easy on Hollywood. Still, it briefly looked like denying “Moonlight” a dignified Best Picture win would be the year’s biggest aberration. It wasn’t.
There was a lot to consider when compiling this list, from mergers to MoviePass and film stars continuing to flock to small screens. Despite many, many, dour headlines, the news was not all bad: a WGA strike was averted, “Wonder Woman” triumphed, we were given both Tiffany Haddish and Melissa McCarthy’s Sean Spicer impression. That’s just the start of the year that was.

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future. This week, we look back on a monumental year, for better or worse.
Ask enough women in Hollywood about being a woman in Hollywood, and eventually a theme emerges: conversation is great, and the acknowledgement of the skewed numbers and lack of equality is essential. It’s a discussion that needs to happen, but won’t it be great when we can stop just talking and put words into action?
It’s a two-pronged dream — that conversation will move past chatter and produce real results, and that those results will create a world where inequality becomes a thing of the past.
But talking has a way of being one-sided and, as it turns out, there needed to be one more step in between the chatter and actually moving things forward. That finally happened in 2017, the year people stopped talking,...

ScreenJunkies film critic and producer Dan Murrell, “The ScreenJunkies Show!” host Hal Rudnick, “ScreenJunkies News” editor-in-chief Roth Cornet, and “Honest Trailers” writers Spencer Gilbert and Joe Starr released a solemn, respectful, 11-minute video on Oct. 26 where they vowed to rebuild trust in the community and thanked fans for their continued patience.

18 days after Defy Media fired Andy Signore of ScreenJunkies in response to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, it has offered a statement indicating its plans moving forward. As discussed in a video featuring all of ScreenJunkies' other hosts, Defy will now begin a slow rebuilding process in order to reckon with Signore's actions and make sure that no other incidents of that sort will ever again happen within its walls.

“An Open Secret” sounds like the perfect title for a brand-new documentary addressing the entertainment industry’s sexual harassment and assault epidemic, which in recent weeks has uncoupled Harvey Weinstein, Roy Price, and Andy Signore from their companies (and caused James Toback, President George H.W. Bush, Oliver Stone, Ben Affleck, and Mark Halperin to confront their own allegations). However, the documentary — which focuses on the abuse male managers, agents, and publicists inflict on young, male clients — premiered at Doc NYC in November 2014 and had a small release the following June (IndieWire awarded it an A-).
Despite its current 93 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, director Amy Berg — who’d previously investigated sexual abuse in “Prophet’s Prey” and “Deliver Us from Evil,” for which she earned a 2007 Best Feature Documentary Oscar nomination — was unable to find a distributor. “An Open Secret” producer Gabe Hoffman claims the film was even accepted,...

It’s been almost two weeks since Andy Signore — creator of the YouTube channel and online movie magazine ScreenJunkies, and senior vice president of content for its parent company, Defy Media — was suspended after several women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and assault. The next day, Defy terminated Signore — the same day as Harvey Weinstein, and about a week before Amazon Studios’ head Roy Price resigned for inappropriate behavior.
Yet while The Weinstein Company and Amazon Studios work to convince the public that they’re back to business as usual, Defy does little to hide it’s in crisis mode.
On October 8, the day Signore was fired, ScreenJunkies and Defy (which oversees eight brands, including Smosh, Smosh Games, and Clevver) tweeted the official statement announcing Signore’s firing. The Harvey Weinstein scandal continues to boil with questions of who knew what and when, a new and disturbing story from Kate Beckinsale, and a NYPD investigation. The list of Weinstein’s accusers grows daily, as does the number of celebrities adding their voices to describe their shock and dismay.
While Weinstein’s behavior is “disgusting” (Robert Rodriguez) and “There is no excuse for sexual harassment or sexual assault” (Leonardo DiCaprio), we have to wrest our attentions from celebrity social media feeds if there’s any hope of stopping it. And while I believe the industry houses other Weinsteins who must be rooted out, the real work lies in paying serious attention to people whose names appear low in the credits crawl, when they’re there at all.
Sexual harassment crosses all categories, and there isn’t an actress (and not a few actors) who doesn’t have a story.

It's been a tough week to get my reviews done. I'm too busy marinating in white-hot rage over the Harvey Weinstein stories, and the other recent revelations about smaller-fish sexual predators in the film media world: Harry Knowles, founder of Ain't It Cool News; Devin Faraci, writer at Alamo's Birth.Movies.Death blog; and Andy Signore of Screen Junkies. All have since been removed from their positions. But collectively, they're a snapshot of what many in the entertainment industry still believe they are entitled to do to women.

The next time you watch an “Honest Trailer” try not to think about the fact that the creator has been accused of sexual misconduct with several women and has been put on suspension by Defy Media, the owner of Screenjunkies, the site where the show is made. Thus far Signore has been a very popular man around the media since Honest Trailers have been a big hit with people and his other various sites have gained him just as much attention. While it’s not known as of yet just how true the misconduct charges are, he hasn’t been available for

It would be easy to look at the last month in the indie film world — a month that has been marked by allegations against the Alamo Drafthouse, Ain’t It Cool News’ Harry Knowles, Screen Junkies’ Andy Signore, and, most notably, Harvey Weinstein — and not believe that a major (and long overdue) change is taking hold of the industry, but the work has only just begun. With the recent firing of both Signore and Weinstein from companies they built (complete with cultures they surely helped create), real-world consequences are finally a part of the kind of equation that for so long pushed victims and survivors of sexual assault and harassment to keep quiet.
That’s a huge jump forward, but it’s hardly the last one that needs to take place.

Andy Signore, the creator of the Emmy-nominated web series Honest Trailers, has lost his job. Over the past few days, numerous women have come forth and accused the comedy writer of sexually abuse and harassment. In light of those allegations, Defy Media, which owns the ScreenJunkies channel on which Honest Trailers is distributed, has opted to fire Signore.
The two most vocal of Signore's accusers, Emma Bowers and April Dawn, both shared detailed accounts of his misconduct on their respective Twitter accounts on October 6. Bowers noted that she was compelled to retell her story, which goes back to 2010, in response to sexual misconduct allegations against film executive Harvey Weinstein, who has since been fired. Dawn's accusations include a claim that Signore "took out sex toys and tried to force them in me."

President Donald Trump‘s use of Twitter has long been a controversial component of his presidency, for several reasons. One of them is his frequent hitting of the “block” button, which the president has unleashed on a number of notable actors, authors and activists who have used Twitter as a platform to criticize him and his administration.
On Tuesday, model Chrissy Teigen, voted one of Time’s 2017 “25 Most Influential People on the Internet,” was the latest to be blocked by the president.

Since kicking off in February 2012, Honest Trailers has spent more than five years skewering the faulty logic, questionable plotting, and erratic character development of major blockbusters. Now, the Defy Media-produced web series, which lives on the Screen Junkies channel, is celebrating its 200th episode in grand style. It’s latest installment features Ryan Reynolds, who arrives in character as Deadpool to help poke fun at the Marvel film Logan.
Logan, the newest chapter in the X-Men film canon, received universal praise upon its release in March 2017, and most of the movie’s Honest Trailer episode features uncharacteristic praise rather than mockery. In order to give viewers some of the cracks they came for, the Defy Media team called in Reynolds, who also showed up on the Emmy-nominated and Streamy-winning web series last year. As Deadpool, Reynolds is an equal-opportunity offender, dishing out gags aimed at Logan, Screen Junkies, and YouTube.

It’s strange it didn’t happen sooner: Honest Trailers has finally come out with its sardonic, blistering take on David Ayer’s beleaguered Suicide Squad, the star-studded movie that was supposed to right DC’s ship and definitely did not. Honest Trailers creator Andy Signore and his writer have plenty of fun pointing out all of Suicide Squad’s faults and failings. Before even turning his attention to the movie itself, gravelly voiced narrator Jon Bailey has a few choice words for the panicky, bumbling studio executives at Warner Bros., who insisted on desperate recuts and reshoots before this film ever reached audiences. And Ayer made things no better when he publicly lashed out at rival Marvel. These folks constituted their very own suicide squad of sorts. And that “Worst Heroes Ever” tagline seemed to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

At a Streamys nominee reception at YouTube Space La, 30 winners took home awards, with The Game Theorists and Oscar’s Hotel For Fantastical Creatures both earning multiple trophies.
The proceedings of the evening were hosted by Chelsea Briggs and Hunter March, who announced the winning channels, creators, musicians, crew members, and content producers. The evening’s acceptance speeches included plenty of thanks for fans, viewers, and subscribers. “You guys are my boss,” said Adande “Swoozie” Thorne, who emerged victorious in the Animated Series category. "I don't care if I'm eating or at church -- come up to me and we'll take a picture." Other speeches were a bit more to-the-point. “Screw you, Emmys!” exclaimed a jubilant Andy Signore, who won Best Writing for his work on Honest Trailers.

Spider-Man. Black Panther. The Airport scene. Prepare to be talking about them after you see "Captain America: Civil War."
Cap's third solo (sort of) movie isn't arriving in theaters until May 6, so it's a wee bit too early to be checking Rotten Tomatoes for official reviews. However, some critics got to see the movie almost a month early, and shared brief reactions on Twitter. Long story short: They loved it. Granted, screening audiences tend to be overly enthusiastic, but they got pretty specific (and consistent) about what they loved, while avoiding any spoilers:
#CaptainAmericaCivilWar delivers the goods. Endless Avenger v Avenger action. Tense and still funny. Boseman kills it as Black Panther.
