Dani Shapiro is a gifted and engaging novelist whose works include
Playing With Fire, Fugitive Blue, Picturing the Wreck, and a memoir,
Slow Motion. Her newest novel is Family History. In addition to her
novels, her fiction and essays have appeared in such magazines as The
New Yorker, Granta, Elle, Ploughshares, Tin House, Bookforum, and
others.
She is married to screenwriter Michael Maren, with whom she co-wrote the screenplay of "Slow Motion" for Reese Witherspoon and Phoenix Pictures production company. Her adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "The Happy Prince" was produced by HBO.
Dani Shapiro has taught creative writing at Columbia University, New York University, and Bennington College. Currently, she teaches in the M.F.A. program at The New School. She lives with her husband and son in Connecticut.
