It's Halloween, and what's the spooky season without a little "Hocus Pocus," my sweet children? The beloved Disney movie may have been a box office flop when it debuted in theaters back in the summer of 1993. But today, it's a seasonal favorite that many consider one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time. Just earlier this month, the movie re-entered the box office charts in the #10 spot, thanks to 30th anniversary screenings at theaters across the country. The love even spawned a long-anticipated sequel, and though it doesn't quite measure up to the original, there may be another one in the works at Disney.

Exclusive: Jonas Dassler (The Golden Glove) has been tapped to play German pastor and theologian-turned-spy Dietrich Bonhoeffer in the thriller God’s Spy, based on a true story.
Others set for the pic written and directed by Sully scribe Todd Komarnicki include Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad), David Jonsson (Industry), August Diehl (A Hidden Life), Moritz Bleibtreu (World War Z) and BAFTA Award nominee Clarke Peters (The Wire).
The film currently in production is set in Berlin during the time of the Third Reich, examining Bonhoeffer’s determination to live his life with uncompromising political and spiritual courage, while speaking truth to power, in his attempt to save countless Jewish lives. Bonhoeffer was among only a few clergy who were early to recognize the danger of Hitler’s anti-Semitic rhetoric, and while the German church acquiesced to Hitler, Bonhoeffer took him on. First, from the pulpit — and then from the front lines.

Ridley Scott is one of Hollywood’s undeniable masters of science fiction, with an unadulterated visual flair that permeates each film he helms. The British director has been bringing his vision to our movie screens for over 50 years. After Australian director Peter Weir received an honorary Oscar earlier this month, Scott, celebrating his 85th birthday, should undoubtedly be next on the Academy’s list to get a statuette at next year’s Governors Awards.
Scott’s dances with the Academy have brought him to four ceremonies as a nominee. For best director, he’s picked up mentions for “Thelma & Louise” (1991), “Gladiator” (2000) and “Black Hawk Down” (2001), while he also scored one for best picture as a producer for “The Martian” (2015). He’s never won at any ceremony.
But that’s not all that makes him worthy of being honored. Scott’s 31 movies as a director have grossed more than 1.7 billion domestically,...

In 2009 Ridley Scott had his eye on Angelina Jolie for a leading role in the Gucci movie, but his daughter Jordan Scott has replaced him as director of the story about grandson of the brand’s founder, and heir to the Gucci fortune, who was gunned down in 1995.
First announced in 2006 a script by Andrea Berloff has a number of writers involved in the project, set up at Scott Free Production.
Now comes word that the Oscar winner, Penelope Cruz, who is currently shooting The Counselor with Ridley, is slated to portray Patrizia Reggiani in Jordan’s drama about the family behind the famous clothing brand.

For a man approaching his 75th birthday, Ridley Scott is staying remarkably busy, releasing his enormous new sci-fi film Prometheus earlier this year then jumping directly into The Counselor, the star-studded drama he's currently shooting. But with a directing project and now the sole namesake for Scott Free Productions, which he founded with his late brother Tony, Ridley apparently had one too many things on his plate after all, and has handed over one of his would-be directing projects to someone he knows very well: his daughter, Jordan. According to The Wrap, Jordan Scott is now planning to direct Gucci, a drama about the family behind the famous clothing brand, and Penelope Cruz is in talks to star. Cruz is currently starring for the elder Scott in The Counselor, so clearly some strong ties are being developed there. And it ought to be a juicy role for Cruz-- she'll be...

A few years ago, Prometheus director Ridley Scott was in discussions to direct Gucci, a film detailing the death, betrayal, and incredible power struggles in the family behind the world famous clothing brand, with big names like Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio being mentioned as the possible leads. The film stayed dormant under the Scott Free banner as Ridley went on to direct other things, but fast forward to today and it's still in the works. The Wrap reports that Penelope Cruz is now the frontrunner for the Gucci family matriarch, and the project won't be helmed by Ridley, but instead by his daughter, Jordan Scott. Read on. An old Variety article gives us a good rundown of what we can expect from the story in Gucci: "[The story] recaptures the glamorous days of the Gucci family dynasty in the 1970s and '80s, when the family was selling $500 million in product...

At the beginning of the year we broke down the myriad of projects that Ridley Scott was attached to (he's added a few more since then as well), and the bottom line is, the 75-year-old director just isn't going to get to them all. But filmmaking runs in the Scott family, and Ridley's daughter, Jordan Scott, has already spread her wings. She helmed the somewhat underrated boarding school drama "Cracks" starring Eva Green and Juno Temple a couple of years back, and she's done commercial work as well for Agent Provocateur, Armani and more. But now another fashion label is getting her attention. Jordan will be taking over for her dad Ridley to direct a movie about famed fashion house Gucci. Scott has been developing this as far back as 2006 and in 2009, and it looked to be his next film after "Robin Hood" with Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio tipped as stars.

John Hillcoat just doesn't do uplifting. He has a pretty good handle on the heartbreaking and emotionally affecting, but raising your spirits just doesn't seem to be his bag (at least in his feature films; remember that Levi's ad?). While we wait patiently for Hillcoat's next feature "The Wettest County" (or are we calling it "Lawless" now?) to arrive in theatres, here's an ad he's directed for the U.K.'s National Lottery.
Titled "Hero's Return - A National Lottery Good Cause," the ad shows a World War II vet named Jack Jennings transported back to wartime Burma while visiting a lottery funded "Life Changing" site. It's Hillcoat by the way of "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now," but also brings to mind the cloying final scene in "Saving Private Ryan." Anyway, we quite like this from both a visual and emotional perspective so you should definitely check it out.

While we patiently wait for Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" to start rolling in front of cameras, the director has been keeping his skills sharpened on a couple of sideline gigs, helming some bracing spots for The Meth Project Foundation as well as a video for Metallica and Lou Reed's silly Lulu album. But this next one we didn't exactly see coming.
Aronofsky has gotten behind the camera for a Kohl's ad for Jennifer Lopez's brand of clothing and accessories. And it's pretty underwhelming. It's essentially like any other ad Lopez does, where she "sings" and dances in a variety of outfits, striking some poses. Frankly, if you didn't tell us Aronofsky did this, we couldn't have guessed. But then again, we don't look to Kohl's ads for high art.

You can often chart the rise of a young actor or actress by the company they keep, in which case British-born Imogen Poots is doing more than fine. Having come off a film with Catherine Keener, Christopher Walken and Philip Seymour Hoffman, she now stars alongside Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin in Touchstone’s “Fright Night,” playing the latter’s sweet girlfriend, and an unwitting object of temptation for the former. In films like the striking and austere schoolhouse drama “Cracks” (the directorial debut of Jordan Scott, daughter of Ridley Scott), meanwhile, and last year’s “Solitary Man,” in which she hooked up with Michael Douglas, Poots is showing a range that obviously endears...

Here at The Playlist, we’ve been singing the praises of British actress Imogen Poots for a while now. She impressed in Jordan Scott’s boarding school drama “Cracked” and David Levien’s “Solitary Man,” and has been building her presence over the years, with smaller roles in “V for Vendetta,” “28 Weeks Later” and “Me and Orson Welles.” At the close of 2010, The Playlist listed Poots as one of our 15 actresses on the rise, and indeed with roles coming up in the biopic "Greetings From Tim Buckley," the drama "A Late Quartet" (alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener and more)…...

Yes, believe it folks, one of the two Jeff Buckley movies in development is moving forward whether you like it or not, and production continues with its indie spirit as Deadline reveals that rising Brit actress Imogen Poots has joined the cast. While her name may sound funny and or not be familiar at all to you, that is likely soon to change. Entertainment One will release the 2009 romantic drama-thriller Cracks, based upon the 1999 novel by Sheila Kohler and starring the beautiful Eva Green (Camelot), on DVD on July 19 for the list price of $24.98.
Eva Green is an enigmantic boarding school teacher in Cracks.
Directed by first-time feature helmer Jordan Scott, daughter of filmmaker Ridley Scott (Robin Hood), who serves as a producer along with his brother Tony Scott (Unstoppable), Cracks focuses on the lives of a group of girls at an elite British boarding school in the 1930s. The girls all idolize their enigmatic swimming instructor and teacher Miss G (Green), who enjoys all the attention until the arrival of Fiamma (Maria Valverde, The Anarchist’s Wife), a wild and self-confident transfer student from Spain. Live Flesh This 1997 offering from Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar (Volver, All About My Mother) opens with a prostitute played by Penelope Cruz giving birth on a bus to a boy she names Victor. 20 years later, Victor shoots and paralyzes a police officer played by Javier Bardem, who retires from the force and becomes a star wheelchair basketball player. When Victor's 6-year prison sentence is up, he asserts himself as the final angle in a tumultuous pentagon of love and deceit involving all five parties of the shooting.

Add another name to the definites list for The Dark Knight Rises, as Juno Temple signs up for a trip to Gotham City…
While speculation continues as to just where Joseph Gordon-Levitt fits into The Dark Knight Rises, we've got one definite piece of confirmed news to pass on. Variety has revealed that Juno Temple, who was first linked with the film last week, has signed on to appear.
Temple's role, back when it was rumoured, was described as a "street-smart Gotham girl", and no further information as to where she fits into the story has thus far been forthcoming. The wildest rumour we've heard is that she's to play Robin, but we'll file that with all of the other rampant speculation that's flown around the web.
Temple is currently best known for her appearance in Jordan Scott's Cracks, but she's also turned up in Year One and Atonement.

Last week, prior to the whole "is he/isn't he" debate surrounding Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Alberto Falcone a.k.a. The Holiday Killer, the actor was confirmed for a part in The Dark Knight Rises, and a new name was floated: Juno Temple. Described as playing a "street-smart Gotham girl," the story said that she was being considered for a part, but that no deal had been made. That changed today. Variety reports that Temple is now "100% locked in," though further details about her character remain unknown. Yet another actor hailing from the UK in Christopher Nolan's Batman universe, Temple is probably best known to American audiences for playing roles in the dismal Year One and Atonement. She recently starred in Jordan Scott's directorial debut, Cracks, in which she puts on a solid performance. But let's get down to the part we've all been waiting for, shall we?...
