The recent round of reboots hasn’t set the world on fire when it comes to winning accolades. But that changed with ABC’s “The Wonder Years,” which premiered last September. A big reason is it’s a complete reimagining. Instead of being a coming-of-age memory comedy about a young boy growing up in the late 1960s in a middle-class White family, the new version revolves around a Black family living in that pivotal decade in Montgomery, Alabama as seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old.
The reboot has already followed in the original’s footsteps earning a prestigious Peabody Award in June for “its willful depiction of Black Joy.” The initial version picked up the award in 1989 for “pushing boundaries of the sitcom format and using new modes of storytelling.” So will Emmys be far behind for freshman series starring Elisha “Ej” Williams as 12-year-old Dean Williams and Dull...

Don Cheadle has been tapped to narrate ABC’s “The Wonder Years” reboot pilot, TheWrap has confirmed.
The “Black Monday” star will voice the adult version of the show’s central character, Dean, as he reflects back on his younger self growing up in 1968. Elisha “Ej” Williams will star in the pilot as the 12-year-old version of Dean, alongside Saycon Sengbloh, Dulé Hill and Laura Kariuki.
Put into development last summer, “The Wonder Years” reboot is written and executive produced by “Dave” executive producer Saladin Patterson. Lee Daniels also executive produces alongside Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment.
Original series star Fred Savage will direct the reboot pilot and executive produce, with “The Wonder Years” co-creator Neal Marlens serving as a consultant on the project from 20th Television.
The original “Wonder Years” ran for six seasons on ABC from 1988-1993 and focused on the Arnolds, a middle class white suburban family.

Lee Daniels’ “Wonder Years” reboot pilot at ABC has added two new cast members.
“Psych” and “The West Wing” alum Dule Hill has joined the series as Bill Williams, Dean’s father and patriarch of the central family. Per ABC, “He’s a music professor by day and a funk musician by night – described by Adult Dean as ‘the baddest guy I knew.’ Almost always calm and composed, his favorite words are ‘be cool.’ Bill wants his family and their black, middle class neighborhood to remain self-sufficient and he puts his money where his mouth is.”
Newcomer Laura Kariuki will play Bill’s daughter and Dean’s teenage sister, Kim Williams. According to the character description, she is confident, bright and popular. “She and Dean bicker as siblings do but they have a good relationship. Lee Daniels’ upcoming reboot of “The Wonder Years” has found its new Kevin Arnold… er, Dean.
The ABC pilot cast Elisha “Ej” Williams to play Dean, the 12-year-old boy that serves as the center of the show, much the same way Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold did in the original “Wonder Years.”
Here’s how ABC describes the character: “”Dean is an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old kid coming of age in a turbulent time. It’s 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama — and Dean is trying to figure out his place within his Black family and the world at large. Though a little insecure, a tad awkward and a bit self-conscious, he is determined to make his mark on the world around him.”
Williams joins Saycon Sengbloh, who will play his mother, Lillian, in the pilot.

Even after all these years, we still get by with a little help from our friends.
According to Deadline, ABC has committed to a pilot for a reboot of the classic ‘80s television drama/comedy The Wonder Years. The project will be developed by Dave executive producer Saladin K. Ferguson, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, and original Wonder Years star Fred Savage.
Like the original series, this new iteration of The Wonder Years will take place in the socially and politically turbulent 1960s. But instead of following the white middle class Arnold family, the reboot will center on a Black middle class family from Montgomery, Alabama. The series will be written by Ferguson, who will draw from his experiences growing up in Montgomery. Savage will direct the pilot. ABC has handed a pilot production commitment to The Wonder Years, a new iteration of the network’s 1980s family comedy-drama. It comes from Dave executive producer Saladin K. Patterson, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, the original series’ breakout star Fred Savage and 20th Century Fox TV.
Written by Patterson inspired by his experiences growing up in Montgomery, Al, the new incarnation of Wonder Years chronicles how a middle-class Black family in Montgomery in the turbulent late-1960s — the same era as the original series — made sure it was the Wonder Years for them too.
The approach is reminiscent of the successful current reimagining of the classic family sitcom One Day at a Time with a Latinx family.

Here’s a fun tweet I came across from Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper on the TV show The Wonder Years. She wrote in the tweet that she got to have lunch with her former co-stars, Fred Savage, who played the lead role of Kevin Arnold, and Josh Saviano, who played the best friend, Paul Pfeiffer. She said
I got to see these guys for lunch yesterday - it was so much fun to catch up and hear how their beautiful families are doing! And yes, @joshsaviano, I totally agree - *you guys* are like family... I mean, we Did grow up together, after all. #memories #TheWonderYears

It was reunion night in Hollywood on Saturday, as the casts of some truly beloved TV series got together for the first time in ages at the TV Land Awards. Picking up the Groundbreaking Award at this weekend's event was the cast of "Ally McBeal," Calista Flockhart stepping out for a rare public event to share the stage with her costars 13 years after the Fox series went off the air. While we'll have to wait for the special to air on April 18th, Flockhart told the audience, "What I remember the most are the friendships, truly." Flockhart was joined at the event by Gil Bellows, Greg German, Lisa Nicole Carson, Courtney Thorne-Smith, series director David E. Kelley, Peter MacNicol and writer Bill D'Elia. They all look great, don't they?! That wasn't the only reunion of the evening though. The stars of "The Wonder Years" were also on hand to accept the Impact Award,...

Created by Neal Marlens and Carol Black, The Wonder Years tells the story of Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) as he faces the trials and tribulations of youth while growing up during the 1960s. Told through narration from the perspective of an adult Kevin (Daniel Stern), the character recounts his adolescent years in suburbia as a mishmash of major world events and personal childhood traumas. When the series began, it was set in the historically significant year of 1968. Using the backdrop of a transitional time in America’s history, the coming-of-age tale brings emotion and context to moments that would shape a nation. Yet, it’s surprisingly the smaller moments that chart the rocky terrain of childhood that we remember most. Snapshots of adolescence, from baseball games and holiday dinners to school dances and a first kiss, and all the moments in between, are what makes The Wonder Years so timelessly appealing.

Who’S It For? “The Wonder Years” is timeless. Fred Savage‘s Kevin Arnold got by with a little help from his friends on “The Wonder Years.” Now that the full run is coming out in a box set, Savage recalled the filming experience with them in new extra features. In the first clip below from the upcoming DVD extras, Josh Saviano — the actor behind Kevin's best friend Paul Pfeiffer — interviewed “Wonder Years” leads Savage and Danica McKellar, who played Winnie Cooper, Kevin's main love interest. The Wonder Years gang is back together, y'all! For the first time in 16 years, Fred Savage (Kevin Arnold), Danica McKellar (Winnie Cooper), Jason Hervey (Kevin's brother Wayne Arnold), Olivia D'Obo (the boys' sister), Alley Mills (their mom), Dan Lauria (their dad) and Josh Saviano (Kevin's best friend Paul) were back together, appearing Tuesday on Good Morning America. Savage, who has gone on to enjoy a successful career as a director and producer, Instagrammed a selfie of the reunited crew, writing simply, "I get by with a little help from these guys." On Gma, he reminisced about his time on the series, which aired from 1988 to 1993. "We were so little and so young, and it...

My, how they’ve grown.
Earlier this year, the cast of The Wonder Years reunited for a momentous occasion: Their beloved nostalgia-com, which was kept away from the home-video market for years (reportedly due to music licensing issues—that boomer-friendly soundtrack doesn’t come cheap), was finally slated for a full DVD release. Months later, The Wonder Years: The Complete Series is finally available… for pre-order.
So, yeah: You’ll still have to wait a few more months to snag the full 26 DVD set, which comes packed in a collectible metal locker (just like the ones at Kennedy Junior...

The cast of "The Wonder Years" had another reunion this morning on "Good Morning America," and they all addressed the one rumor we just can't get enough of.It's been over 20 years since the show went off the air in 1993, and since then, fans have been keeping tabs on the stars. But while Fred Savage and Danica McKellar stayed somewhat in the limelight, Josh Saviano (aka Paul) vanished -- leading to the Internet urban legend that he grew up to become Marilyn Manson.Saviano, Savage, McKellar, Jason Hervey, Olivia d'Abo and Alley Mills all reminisced earlier today, where the shock rocker rumor reared its ugly head."I think it really was the very first Internet rumor and because of that it doesn’t die," says Saviano ... clearly somewhat annoyed by the attention. "I get asked if he's Marilyn Manson every week," added Danica.Savage and McKellar also opened up about...

They’ve all gone on to do great things with their careers over the past two decades, and earlier this week the cast of “The Wonder Years” came back together for a special reunion.
Fred Savage, Danica McKellar, Josh Saviano, Olivia D’Abo, Dan Lauria, Jason Harvey and Alley Mills all showed up on the old set and looked to be having a blast.
The reason for the gathering was to film extra features for the forthcoming “The Wonder Years: The Complete Series” DVD boxed set and they all made sure to take their own photos to remember the moment.
Harvey tweeted a shot around the kitchen table along with the caption, “First Look Whole Cast!” while Savage added his own selfie with his cohorts and the caption, “#WonderYearsDVD coming soon.”...

After all of the years of waiting, The Wonder Years is finally coming to DVD! I loved this series. It was one of my favorite shows growing up. Last year the series popped up on Netflix, but this is a series that fans would love to own on DVD, and it's supposed to be released later this year.
The original cast of the series has come back together to promote the DVD, and a few photos and a selfie of the reunion have popped up online thanks to Fred Savage, Josh Saviano, Danica McKellar, and Jason Hervey. You can check those out below!
It looks like this might be part of a documentary that’ll be included on the DVD set that will focus on the history and filming of the show.

Social media is a powerful thing. Especially when it becomes a tool for actors from classic TV shows to have mini-reunions and post them for all the world to see.

The Wonder Years, Season 1, Episode 1 “Pilot”
Directed by Steve Miner
Written by Neal Marlens and Carol Black
Aired January 31, 1988
The Wonder Years is a series built on and steeped in nostalgia: the first images we see and sounds we hear of the series are news footage of events from 1968, set to the The Byrds’ “Turn, Turn, Turn”. But The Wonder Years takes the idea of nostalgia even further: it’s not just a love letter to the Sixties in the suburbs, it is a look back at the trials and tribulations of adolescence, of the singular yet universal experience of being a child perched on the edge of adulthood. Thus, it is a show that appeals to more than just aging Boomers or Gen Xers who may have come of age at or around the same time as Kevin Arnold, the series’ main character – whatever decade it may have taken place,...

For years we've been waiting for the classic 1980s series The Wonder Years to be released on DVD, and I'm happy to say that The Wonder Years: The Complete Series will finally be released later this year!

Well, here’s some unexpected and tremendous news: The Wonder Years, the ’80s-’90s Fred Savage series about growing up in the ’60s-’70s, is coming to DVD in late 2014 featuring “virtually every song” from its immense soundtrack. That is quite a feat. The DVDs will include tracks from The Beatles, Van Morrison, Smokey Robinson, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell, and thank God, because this show is not the same without “The Circle Game” playing over footage of the Arnold family’s home movies. Netflix made the series available for viewing without any of the show’s big tunes (even the Joe Cocker opener of “With a Little Help from My Friends” was altered), so this is a particularly huge revelation.
I’ve always been shocked by how much this show resonates with me. It’s a show about an adolescent heterosexual everyman, but Kevin Arnold’s experiences still felt specific,...

Hollywood can be a tough place to navigate the transition from youth to adulthood. Child actors are usually dorky, awkward little ragamuffins. But to be an adult actor, they need you to look like you were sculpted by Michelangelo.
So making the transition from child actor to adult can be nearly impossible for some to whom nature was not so kind. Some actors, like Josh Saviano (Paul from Wonder Years) simply get out of the business. But some persevere and, with a little help from good genes and a personal trainer, become successful actors as adults.
Seeing the picture of Jonathan Lipnicki that Ae recently posted had me thinking about how some boys we remember as looking like this:
