14 years ago today, Derek Zoolander and his unforgettable Blue Steel pose catwalked into theaters when “Zoolander" had its big screen debut on Sept. 28, 2001. Created by Stiller and stand-up comedian/TV writer Drake Sather, the dimwitted model character was first introduced to audiences back in 1996 in a sketch at the VH1 Fashion Awards. Watch the original VH1 skit below and see if you can discern the nuances in Zoolander’s Blue Steel and Ferrari looks: A sequel for “Zoolander” is set to open in theaters on Feb. 12, 2016. Ben Stiller has revealed that his Red Hour Films production company will develop two web-based series for Paramount Digital Entertainment. One of the series is called "Billy Glimmer: Entertainer of the Century," and the other is "Zoolander." Stiller said that the projects could become TV shows and feature films, but for now they are nothing more than a creative exercise. "It's just a way to say, 'Hey, let's go do a couple of little five-minute episodes,'" he told NY Times. "As opposed to saying, 'Hey, let's pitch it to the studio and then let's have a fight over the budget for six months.'" In the "Zoolander" cartoon, Stiller will reprise the character that he and Drake Sather created for comedy skits shown on the VH1 Fashion Awards in the 1990s. The comedian said he hoped to have supporting cast members from the film, including Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell.

Ben Stiller has explained the 10-year delay on the Zoolander sequel - he found it too painful to revisit the film following the suicide of the screenwriter behind the hit character.
The actor, who starred in and directed the hit 2001 movie, recently announced plans to bring Zoolander back to the big screen nearly a decade after the first film hit cinemas.
Stiller has been keen to make a follow-up for the "last six or seven years" but admits he found it difficult to contemplate work on a sequel after his screenwriter pal Drake Sather, the scribe who created the title character, committed suicide in 2004.
He tells Parade magazine, "We've been working on it on and off over the last six or seven years. The biggest hurdle for me personally was that Drake Sather, who created the character, passed away. He was a good friend and the lump for me was it's hard to imagine doing it without him.
"Now my buddy, Justin Theroux, has committed to directing and writing it. So I'm excited and I think it's going to happen. I want to be able to do something that lives up to the first one. That's the challenge."...

Last week brought the amazing news that finally, after almost a decade, Ben Stiller is thinking seriously about a "Zoolander" sequel. He's currently writing it with "Iron Man 2" scribe Justin Theroux, who will also direct. That's the news as we had it last week.
Well we chatted up Stiller over the weekend at the junket for "Greenberg," the upcoming comedy he stars in for writer/director Noah Baumbach. He had quite a bit to say about the coming return of his iconic male model parody. Why it's taken so long for a sequel, where the story will go, who we can expect to see return... maybe not everything you want to know, but lots of juicy info nonetheless.
"Yes, it is true," Stiller confirmed of the sequel plans. "We are in the process of getting a script written. It's in the early stages, but it's gonna happen. We've been trying for years to.
