Joe Pesci is looking back fondly on his time with “Home Alone”.
Speaking with People by e-mail for the 20th anniversary of “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York”, the actor said retaining the original cast and crew from the first film was essential. It gave the film “the same, if not more, energy and enthusiasm as the original.”
That’s not to say the sequel didn’t differentiate itself from the first. Pesci argued there was “more spontaneity and creativity on the set” due to the shared work experience.
“It was a nice change of pace to do that particular type of slapstick comedy,” Pesci recalled, who at that point had a number of dramatic roles under his belt including 1983’s “Easy Money” and 1989’s “Lethal Weapon 2”. “But the ‘Home Alone’ movies were a more physical type of comedy, therefore, a little more demanding.”

The last time Meghan Trainor dropped an album in late January 2020, the world was weeks away from being shut down. And despite having bops like “Nice to Meet Ya” with Nicki Minaj, a collab with the Pussycat Dolls, and earworms like “Funk” and “Evil Twin,” Treat Myself easily became one of Trainor’s most underrated works.
Plus, with the pandemic-caused lockdowns, Trainor was unable to perform a single song from the pop-perfect record. “It was sad and heartbreaking. I was like, ‘Well, this sucks,’ ” Trainor tells Rolling Stone.

Most people know Matt Dillon as an actor who grew up in front of the cameras. He won two Indie Spirit Awards for “Drugstore Cowboy” and for “Crash;” that one also yielded a Supporting Actor Oscar nomination. Dillon also made a strong directing debut in 2003 with moody thriller “City of Ghosts” co-starring James Caan, Gerard Depardieu, and Stellan Skarsgård.

Music is at the heart of director Sergio Navarretta’s “The Cuban,” set for a limited theatrical release July 31. In the movie, pre-med student Mina, played by Ana Golja (“Degrassi”), is tasked with caring for Luis, portrayed by Louis Gossett Jr., who is struggling with Alzheimer’s and has retreated into himself. As she feeds him, she tells him of her dreams of being a musician and hums tunes from her childhood in Afghanistan. Luis sparks to the songs, and begins to come out of his shell.
Navarretta points to “The Mambo Kings” as an inspiration for his film, saying he was so moved by the music in that 1992 movie, about a pair of brothers who flee Havana for New York in the ’50s, that he wanted to make a picture with music as its focal point. His choice to create that sound was Grammy Award-nominated Cuban jazz artist Hilario Durán.

It’s been a year of change for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which has responded not only to the pandemic, pushing back the global ABC Oscars telecast from February 28 to April 25, 2021 — setting a new award season calendar as other award shows have followed suit — but the urgency of the Black Lives Matter movement.
In its continuing push to swell the Academy membership ranks, 819 artists and executives from 68 countries have been invited to join this year. The branches have increasingly actively sought eligible people to become Academy members, but the Board of Governors makes the final call. People from underrepresented ethnic/racial communities (36 percent) and women (45 percent) are among the many invites, as the Academy continues to address its long-term white-male dominance. As always, actors make up the largest branch of the Academy, but many new members (49 percent) also come from overseas.

The last decade and change has seen Clint Eastwood go from one of Hollywood’s most accomplished, awards friendly, and respected directors, to someone whose new work is very hit or miss. Mostly, the hits (American Sniper and Sully) have been outweighed by the misses. Now, Eastwood is again following his Million Dollar Baby playbook (one that got him major Oscar love) and releasing a new movie at the tail end of the year. Opening this week is Richard Jewell, his latest effort. While hardly a misfire, it’s only a small scale success, periodically weighed down by the filmmaker’s politics. In other hands, this might have been irresistible. Instead, it’s a solid flick with a handful of problematic elements. The film is a drama, pulled from the aftermath of the bombing at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. What begins as a character study soon turns dark. Initially, security...

Joe Pesci is a performer of all trades — just still don’t call him funny like clown.
While raking in praise and acclaim for his supporting role in Martin Scorsese‘s new crime drama The Irishman, the 76-year-old actor has now released a fully realized jazz album, featuring Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine on two tracks, no less.
Titled Pesci… Still Singing, the album, out now, includes 13 songs that totals just over an hour of Pesci’s musical take on classics like “I’ll Be Seeing You” and “‘Round Midnight.” Levine lends his vocals to “Baby Girl” and “My Cherie Amour,” a 1969 Motown hit by Stevie Wonder.

Clint Eastwood’s late career has revolved around two categories: There’s the gloves-off, no-apologies strand of Clint as an old man taking back what’s his while learning a lesson along the way, or his agitprop offerings — the ones he usually doesn’t star in — that seek to elevate good, but misunderstood real-life men.
“Richard Jewell” belongs in that latter camp of complicated Eastwood heroes. While the 89-year-old director’s recent films often seem to serve as softer, artistic mea culpas for his controversial ideologies off the set, this time he gets out of his own way with. This muted drama won’t win Eastwood any new fans, but it won’t mar his legacy, either. The film’s low-key approach to a tragic media scandal feels at once timely and old-fashioned — a character study from another era designed to comment on our own.

Camila Cabello has done it again. She always manages to deliver some of the best live performances, and her Grammys production on Sunday night was no different.
The "Consequences" singer and Grammy nominee took the stage to show off her amazing moves and vocals, and we're still dancing in our seats. Sporting a bright yellow gown, the 21-year-old Cuba native mashed up her smash hit "Havana" with J. Balvin's "Mi Gente," who also made a cameo.
And, the cutest part of her performance? It was inspired by her family! Before her set, Cabello told E! News that her set would be based on her grandmother's childhood, when her family would just get together and jam out - and that definitely showed through in the colorful, upbeat set.
Cabello received two Grammy nominations in the categories best pop performance for "Havana (Live)" and best pop vocal album for her self-titled 2018 musical collection Camila.

Cabello received two Grammy nominations in the categories best pop performance for "Havana (Live)" and best pop vocal album for her self-titled 2018 musical collection Camila.

Alicia Keys has been a winner on the Grammys stage many times before — 15 times, to be exact — but she also turned out to be a winner when she wasn’t nominated for anything at all. She hosted the 2019 telecast, which was her first time emceeing the music industry’s main event, and the viewers we polled loved her performance: “Bring her back next year!” they said. Scroll down to see our complete results at the bottom of this post.

"From the Motown records I wore out on the South Side to the 'who run the world' songs that fuelled me through this last decade, music has always helped me tell my story," Obama said to the audience that wildly cheered for her throughout her speech.
"Music helps us share ourselves. Our dignity and sorrows, our hopes and joys. It allows us to hear each other and to invite each other in. Music shows us that all of it matters."

Camila Cabello opened the Grammy Awards from the inside of a brownstone reimagined as a colorful dollhouse. She shifted through the rooms before taking to the “street,” where she ran into J Balvin reading a paper with the headline “Build Bridges Not Walls.”
Young Thug joined to perform a verse as Cabello nimbly danced throughout the street. Soon, the opening act turned into a medley of Latin pop superstars: Ricky Martin joined to belt alongside Cabello as Arturo Sandoval played on his trumpet before J Balvin did a bit of his smash hit “Mi Gente.

It's been 20 years since Ricky Martin was "Livin' La Vida Loca," but decades later, his life is still, indeed, loca. On Sunday night, the Assassination of Gianni Versace actor walked the red carpet hand-in-hand with his 10-year-old son, Matteo, and all eyes were likely on the adorable duo, dressed in matching all-black outfits. As for Matteo's twin brother Valentino, we have a feeling he's cheering them on with Ricky's husband, Jwan Yosef, and their newborn baby girl, Lucia.
It's a big night for Ricky, as he's opening the 2019 Grammy Awards with Camila Cabello, J Balvin, Arturo Sandoval, and Young Thug in a performance that's bound to be unforgettable. But don't let Ricky's mustache distract you from the adorableness that is the father-son pair. Matteo sure is going to have good stories for the kids at school tomorrow! Read on to see photos of Ricky and his son Matteo at the Grammys.

Camila Cabello will be surrounded by her loved ones at the 2019 Grammys, and not just on the red carpet. The first-time Grammy nominee is set to open the show on Sunday with a performance featuring Ricky Martin, J. Balvin, Young Thug and Arturo Sandoval. She attended the ceremony with her parents, sister and grandmother. "You might see them on stage, actually," Cabello told E! News' Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. "The performance is based off of my grandma's childhood," she said. The 2019 Grammy Awards will be held this Sunday night, February 10, but who will actually be handing out those awards? CBS and the recording academy have announced presenters for the telecast: Kelsea Ballerini, Leon Bridges, Luke Combs, Charlie Wilson, Alessia Cara, Julian Edelman, Eve, John Mayer, Bob Newhart, Smokey Robinson, Swizz Beatz, Meghan Trainor, Kane Brown, Bts, Cedric The Entertainer, Nina Dobrev, Anna Kendrick, Jada Pinkett Smith and Wilmer Valderrama.
That list includes a number of Grammy nominees and winners from the music industry, but comedian Newhart was actually one of the earliest Grammy winners ever awarded. He won Best New Artist at the third annual awards in 1961, which made him the only comedian ever to win that prize, and he was also awarded Album of the Year for “The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart,” which was one of only two comedy winners in that top category.

We already knew Camila Cabello was performing at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, February 10, but now we know she’ll take the stage in what CBS and the recording academy say will be an “explosive show opener.” She’ll be joined by J Balvin, Young Thug, Ricky Martin and Arturo Sandoval.
Cuban-American singer Cabello got her start with the girl group Fifth Harmony before striking out on her own. She received her first pair of Grammy nominations this year: Best Pop Solo Performance for “Havana” and Best Pop Album for her solo debut “Camila.” Rapper Young Thug was featured on the chart-topping recorded version of “Havana” with Cabello, but Cabello is nominated by herself for a live version of the song.

After the power, presence and flash of Prince, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, U2 and Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime performances — not to mention the controversy of this weekend’s Maroon 5-Travis Scott spot — it’s hard to believe that the big game’s intermission show used to consist of college marching bands along with performers like the lily-white singing/dancing troupe Up with People and the late, great Carol Channing.
In retrospect, it’s surprising that it took 26 Super Bowls for people to realize the marketing potential a 12-minute show with an audience that is now estimated to be 100 million people — the single biggest audience for any musical performance on Earth. As the Stones, McCartney, Gaga and others have learned, it might be the best possible way to promote an upcoming tour.

Cuban-born musician Arturo Sandoval is well known as a top trumpeter and recording artist in the jazz world. Now, at 69, he’s thinking of changing careers, and hopes his score for Clint Eastwood’s “The Mule,” based on the story of an elderly Midwestern horticulturist who stumbles into a job transporting cocaine for the Mexican cartel, will be a big step in that direction.
Eastwood, who plays jazz piano, usually composes the themes for his films, and sometimes even entire scores, as he did for “Mystic River,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “Changeling” and others. But thanks to Andy Garcia, who played Sandoval in the HBO biopic “For Love or Country,” and who co-stars in “The Mule” as a drug lord, the director and musician met at Warner Bros., initially to discuss creating the Latin source music that would be needed for a party at Garcia’s character’s lavish digs.

Updated: Some 35 years after their split, the four original members of Abba announced today that they have recorded two new songs. One, “I Still Have Faith in You,” is set for release in December.
That song will be part of a “Virtual Abba” experience in collaboration with “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller first announced in 2016, and it will premiere, via digital versions of band members, on NBC and ABC at the end of this year. There are no details as yet about the second song.
In a statement, the band wrote:
“The decision to go ahead with the exciting Abba avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence. We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did. And it was like time had stood still and that we only had been away on a short holiday.

Producer Paula Dupre Pesmen and I talk on the video above about the creators behind Keep On Keepin’ On, a documentary about the remarkable mentoring relationship between the great jazz trumpeter Clark Terry, in his 80s and ailing, and his 23-year-old protege, the blind piano prodigy Justin Kauflin. The documentary was shot over four years, and spotlights the time just before Kauflin is to perform in an elite piano competition.
Another of Terry’s long-ago proteges, Quincy Jones, is among the notables appearing in the film, as do Bill Cosby, Herbie Hancock, Mulgrew Miller, Arturo Sandoval and Diane Reeves.
The video comes from Deadline’s The Contenders event held earlier this month, which brought together notables from a range of Oscar-contending films to talk about their projects in front of a group of Academy voters. Earlier today, I had the chance to watch 20-30 minutes of completed scenes from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I also had the opportunity to chat with director Marc Webb about what I saw. So I’ll start with my spoiler-free impressions, and then we’ll get to Webb’s remarks. 1. Spider-Man looks better than ever. Those that were skeptical of the visual effects in this film- which used to include me- have nothing to fear. It’s clear that the images we’ve seen- which some looked “video game fake”- were not indicative of the final product. The film looks stunning, and Spider-Man himself looks incredible. The physics of his web-swings around New York have never looked more realistic in any of the previous 4 Spidey films. This one is going to be a feast for the eyes. 2. Spidey has a theme!! The score is excellent. Hans Zimmer continues his streak of great work.
