*a screener of this film was provided by the director Kantz.
Director: Kantz.
Writers: Kantz, and Lucas Culshaw.
Admittedly, this reviewer has talked to Kantz on several occasions and his passion for filmmaking often comes through in the topics he likes to talk about. This reviewer loves to talk of film too. That is what makes reviewing Wasteland so much harder. This sci-fi title came out of DVD October 11th and the screener came not much later than that. This is a post-apocalyptic yarn involving revenge as one man, named Keo (Garret Sato), sets out to kill members of the Church, the people who assaulted his wife and kidnapped his only son. This is a pretty straight forward homage to Albert Pyun's 1989 flick Cyborg, with costumes, action and plot line eerily similar. This latest incarnation had a much smaller budget, cast and the audio is almost entirely dubbed to the film's detriment.

Wasteland is a film from director Kantz, which is reminiscent of the '80s post apocalyptic films of old. In the '80s there seemed to be this focus on a destroyed and dangerous landscapes as seen in films like
Mad Max 2 , Bronx Warriors, Escape from New York and many others. Several films dealt with societal fears of imminent nuclear annihilation e.g. Quiet Earth, Def Con 4. However, trends change.
With Wasteland, global catastrophes come about through environmental hazards e.g. pollutants, overpopulation. In this devolving landscape "religious zealots" fight against a group of cannibals and mutants for survival. Pollution are the cause of mutations and societal collapse "chemicals pumped into the environment have caused the ecosystem to fail and collapse." Full of action and adventure, between a desperate hero and the end of the world, Wasteland will be released by Cinema Epoch on DVD October 11th. Possible DVD...

Modus Operandi Pictures is developing a new post-apocalyptic feature, titled Wasteland. The vision of the Wasteland sees a world with less than a 100 million occupants. Populations have been wiped out by disease, hunger and fighting over the last scraps of food. The picture is reminiscent of the apocalyptic pictures of the '70s and '80s, where nuclear war was a daily worry (and possibly stills is).
These previous eras created dozens of films that dealt with a future wasteland, like: The Day After, The Road Warrior, and earlier with Logan's Run (1976). This style of film has recently been recreated with The Road (2009) and Book of Eli (2010). There seems to be a focus on apocalyptic settings by filmmaker, as apocalyptic themes taken directly from several major religions e.g. Judaism and Christianity. Returning to the present, have a look at some of the costumes settings and themes from the Wasteland...
