Beacon 23 is a sci-fi psychological thriller series created by Zak Penn. The MGM+ series has finally returned for its second season, filmed simultaneously with its first season. Glen Mazzara and Joy Blake take the helm as co-showrunners for Season 2 replacing Zak Penn. So, if you loved the first season of Beacon 23 and are excited about what’s coming, we are here to keep you informed.

So what can be said about Andy Dick that the paparazzi and nearly every Judge from West Virginia to Los Angeles hasn’t already said? He was once a rising star in the comedy world with lovably nerdy characters on hit TV series before his demons grabbed a hold of him and took him down an over 25 year path of endless headlines with his name often times preceding the word “arrested.” In those years, he has compiled more Mug Shots than Head Shots and went from Star on the Rise to Registered Sex Offender. Yeah, I don’t know how else to say this other than: Wtf Happened to Andy Dick?!
But as always we must begin at the beginning and the beginning began on his birthday, December 21, 1965 in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating high school in the suburbs of Illinois, Andy would study at the famed Second City and...

Mike Judge and his Office Space cast reunited at South by Southwest Film & TV Festival for a panel discussion March 9 sponsored by The Hollywood Reporter about the beloved and influential film — a title that arguably reinvented the workplace comedy for the modern age and popularized the concept of quiet quitting. While the panel discussion tackled several intriguing aspects about the film’s creation and reception (some highlights below), Judge revealed a few extra tidbits at the post-panel reception at Austin’s The Statesman restaurant.
Asked if there was anything he would change about the film (which was famously difficult to get made, with the writer-director fending off a blizzard of studio executive Tps reports, er, notes), Judge offhandedly noted he hasn’t seen his film since before it was released in 1999. Everybody in earshot of this (including star Ron Livingston) looked surprised, given the film initially flopped at the box...

Office Space is celebrating its 25th anniversary following its delayed path to success, although hopefully no one would get their ass kicked for saying something like that.
Released Feb. 19, 1999, director Mike Judge’s enduring and endlessly quotable workplace satire follows computer programmer Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston), who decides to stop caring about his day job and teams up with Initech co-workers Michael Bolton (David Herman) and Samir Nagheenanajar (Ajay Naidu) to defraud the company. The Fox comedy — featuring such on-the-rise performers as Jennifer Aniston, John C. McGinley, Gary Cole and Stephen Root — collected just $10 million at the time but became a cult favorite after finding a following through cable and home video.
Other standouts from the cast include Richard Riehle as engineer liaison Tom Smykowski, who defends his job (“I have people skills!”) to Paul Willson and McGinley as the two Bobs who are put in charge of layoffs. In...

If you haven’t been following him on Twitter, David Krumholtz has been one of the very few reasons to stay up to date on the happenings of that godforsaken site, sharing gloriously told tales of his time in Hollywood. The Oppenheimer actor’s next feature, Bob Byington’s comedy Lousy Carter, will now arrive this March, which finds him leading an ensemble also including Martin Starr, Olivia Thirlby, Jocelyn DeBoer, Luxy Banner, and Stephen Root. Ahead of the March 29 release, Magnolia Pictures have now released the first trailer and poster.
Here’s the synopsis: “In Lousy Carter, David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) stars as a ne’er-do-well literature professor adrift on a soulless college campus who learns he only has six months to live. This originally premiered at the 2023 Locarno Film Festival last year, and it also played at the Philadelphia and Montclair Film Festivals. The film stars Oppenheimer's stand out actor David Krumholtz in a lead role as a very "lousy" guy at a university who is suddenly told he has six months left to live. So he goes off on everyone around him. Man-baby Lousy Carter struggles to complete his animated Nabokov adaptation, teaches a graduate seminar on Gatsby, and sleeps with his best friend's wife. "I believe you have my stapler." Odds are, the majority of people who enjoy comedy films would be able to tell you that quote is from "Office Space." Directed by "Beavis and Butthead" creator Mike Judge, it was his first live-action feature and would probably rank near the top of any list of things he's made if one were to conduct an informal survey of his fans. That's the way it is now. In 1999 when the film first hit theaters? Not so much. "Office Space" majorly disappointed against high expectations and, at least at first, seemed like it was going to be forgotten to time. Then a straight-up cult developed around the workplace comedy and it's now a part of the fabric of popular culture.

Ella is trained to help Alan with day-to-day tasks, in essence replacing his paralysed limbs. But when Ella starts feeding off Alan’s darker impulses and revenge-filled dreams, things start to become deadly for those around him.

When The New Yorker first published Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” in June of 1948, the short story was met with confusion and disgust. To this day, apparently the magazine still hasn’t received that much mail over a work of fiction. Regardless of those early negative reviews, though, this shock tale has since gone on to become ingrained in the public consciousness. Everyone remembers their immediate reaction upon reading about a deceptively quaint village where the locals conduct the most heinous ritual every year.
Despite its widespread recognition, “The Lottery” has received only a few screen adaptations over the years. The earliest was in Cameo Theatre, a long lost 1950s anthology series notable for its minimalistic production design. Then there was Larry Yust’s ‘69 short-film; this piece of kindertrauma captures the source material’s unmatched ability to go from casual to ghastly in mere seconds.

“Praise Petey” has been canceled after just one season at Freeform.
Series creator Anna Drezen shared the news in an Instagram post on Nov. 13. In the post, Drezen wrote, “I cannot believe we got to make this show. Best crew, best cast, top to bottom the dream of my life to make something this funny and unwell that went on actual television. I have heard that making a non-ip show during covid that premieres during a double strike in the dead of summer was not ideal for viewership. It’s still on Hulu as of right now, if you want to watch it you should do it soon. Thanks to everyone who watched and loved these characters as much as I did, and biggest thanks to Alex Jones and Charlie Kirk for bravely yelling about the show when the actors couldn’t. Will never forget you.”

Claustrophobia is a common side effect in the world-building of sci-fi writer Hugh Howey, whose postapocalyptic breakthrough Silo (filmed for Apple TV+) unfolds in a massive underground bunker. In the rather less compelling Beacon 23, based on a collection of his short stories, the setting is out of this world, the action largely contained within a futuristic lighthouse at the edge of the galaxy. This is where Halan (Homecoming’s Stephan James), a soldier who may have gone Awol, rescues the enigmatic Aster (Game of Thrones’ steely Lena Headey), sole survivor of a crashed vessel who appears to be an agent of the Interstellar Space Authority. There’s an immediate distrust between the two, inflamed by the facility’s gabby resident AI, named Bart (voiced by Wade Bogert-o’Brien), who accuses Halan of having murdered the most recent beacon keeper (a hilariously flamboyant Stephen Root). Why is Halan even there? What’s Aster’s story,...

Despite the decline in theatrical horror releases during the 1990s, the direct-to-video side of the genre was still thriving. So much so that something like Jeff Burr’s Night of the Scarecrow understandably slipped through the cracks after its unnoticed home-video premiere in ‘96. Even aficionados of this regularly dismissed decade of horror might not be aware of the movie’s existence. Nevertheless, longtime fans still consider this to be one of the more notable offerings of scarecrow horror.
It’s not hard to figure out why Night of the Scarecrow got so lost in the shuffle of ‘90s Dtv horror. Jeff Burr claimed only around 12,000 units were shipped back in the bygone days of video shops. Yet, if you came across this movie’s alluring box art in the horror aisle, you couldn’t be blamed for wanting to take a closer look. The alternative artwork — the titular, sickle-wielding villain...

This list of the top film schools in the United States in 2023 first appeared in the College Issue of TheWrap magazine.
Apples and oranges? Sure. Trying to rank the top American film schools is fiendishly difficult, maybe even impossible, because of the vast difference between what the schools are trying to do. Our No. 1, AFI, is a conservatory that offers graduate studies to fewer than 200 students; No. 2, USC, has more than 1,500 students in seven different areas of both undergraduate and graduate study. The list includes conservatories and public universities, film studies programs and art schools, schools that are great for animation and ones that are great for documentaries, places where you can learn how to make movies and places where you can learn how to think about them. A brilliant home for one student could be a disaster for another — and while there’s a school on this list that...

There’s something about Eerie, Indiana that brings out even more early ’90s nostalgia than a pair of Mc Hammer pants or A.C. Slater slamming you into a locker. Right up there with Are You Afraid of the Dark? as some of the all-time best gateway TV horror for kids, Eerie always felt like a must watch if you could catch it on Disney or eventually Saturday mornings on Fox Kids Network. The show idea was simple and easy to relate to when you were a kid because every adult in suburbia seemed weird as fuck at the time. Hell, they still do.
In the show, Marshall Teller (Omri Katz) and his friend Simon (Justin Shenkarow) investigate the weird and possibly sinister happenings of their neighborhood and as usual… the adults never believe them.

"You were meant to come here... So was I." MGM+ has unveiled the full trailer for an intriguing sci-fi series called Beacon 23, set to launch in November. Beacon 23 was originally developed as a Spectrum Original series as part of an effort to entice cable subscribers, but this division was shut down and projects were sold off. It ended up at MGM and is ready to go. The story unfolds in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way in the 23rd Century following Aster (starring Lena Headey), a government agent, and Halan (Stephan James), a stoic ex-military man working at Beacon 23. They find their fates entangled after becoming trapped inside one of many Beacons that serve as a lighthouse for intergalactic travellers. Every Beacon is run by one highly trained human and a specialized A.I. Halan doesn't trust Aster, as not everything is at it seems. This...

In Freeform’s adult animated comedy Praise Petey, New York “It” girl Petey St. Barts (Annie Murphy) becomes a southern cult leader after a father she never knew dies and leaves her his rather complicated legacy.
That includes an entire working town, a throng of comet-obsessed cult members and one hot (and morally superior) redneck named Bandit (John Cho). In desperate need of food and direction until an alien race comes to collect them, Petey’s prophesized arrival seemingly guarantees for the citizens of New Utopia that they will once again have a sense of purpose.
But the former New Yorker with mommy issues and (failed) magazine dreams understandably finds all the human sacrifice and human Shih Tzus (Alfred Molina) a little too much. So instead of merely taking the reins from her father, Petey — alongside Bandit, best friend Eliza (Kiersey Clemons), right-hand Mae Mae (Amy Hill) and old recordings...

What a year it’s been for David Krumholtz. In 2023, the actor has added a Tony-winning play (Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt) and a box-office sensation (you know which one) to his resumé. In both cases that affable face, so often in the margins, nudged toward center stage. Krumholtz goes one further with deadbeat comedy Lousy Carter, a premiere last week in competition at the Locarno Film Festival wherein the actor plays a graduate lecturer who learns he has six months to live and decides to try seducing a student. It’s less creepy than it sounds and, at its best, it’s all his.
Lousy Carter is directed by Bob Byington, returning to the Swiss festival for the first time since 2012, when his Nick Offerman starring Somebody Up There Likes Me took home the Special Jury Prize. Byington’s script plants the nominatively determined character in a community college in Austin,...

King of the Hill fans were shocked to learn of the death of Johnny Hardwick last week. The actor was best known as the voice of Dale Gribble, Hank Hill’s conspiracy-obsessed neighbour on the animated series. When it was officially announced that Hulu had ordered a King of the Hill revival earlier this year, Johnny Hardwick was expected to return, but did he actually get the chance to record any episodes before his death?
According to TVLine, Johnny Hardwick had completed work on “a couple” episodes of the King of the Hill revival. Hopefully this means that we’ll get to hear the actor’s pitch-perfect take on Dale Gribble just one more time. As far as the rest of the episodes of the revival go, it’s not certain if someone else will take over as the voice of Dale or if they’ll retire the character.

This story about “Barry” first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Comedy issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine. All actor interviews in that issue were conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike began.
Bill Hader had a physical reaction to the end of his HBO comedy series “Barry.” He was wiped out from directing and starring in the entire eight-episode final season to be sure, but he wasn’t prepared to literally ache once the series was over. “It’s like for nine years I had my fist clenched as tight as it possibly could go, fingernails digging into my palms and drawing blood,” he said in an interview conducted the day before SAG-AFTRA went on strike. “And then the day the finale aired they’re like, ‘Alright, you can open your hand now.’ And it’s just like, Ahhhh!”

The fourth and final season of Barry was unlike its previous three, with the HBO comedy becoming darker and deadlier as hitman Barry Berkman (co-creator Bill Hader) reaches his endgame. Yet the Television Academy’s love for the show didn’t waver; after winning nine Emmys in its first three seasons — including lead actor wins for Bill Hader and a supporting actor trophy for Henry Winkler — Barry returns to competition with 11 nominations, including four for Hader (for acting, directing, writing and producing the series) and individual nods for supporting actors Winkler and Anthony Carrigan.

Johnny Hardwick, who voiced the chain-smoking exterminator Dale Gribble for the entire 13-season run of the Fox animated hit King of the Hill, has died. He was 64.
Officers responding to a call for a welfare check found Hardwick dead in his home in Austin on Tuesday, police said, adding that the case is not being investigated as a homicide and that the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
Hardwick voiced Dale — the conspiracy theorist who lives next door to his best friend, propane accessory salesman Hank Hill (co-creator Mike Judge), and uses pocket sand when necessary — from 1997-2010 and was a writer, story editor and producer on the show as well.
The animators were said to have drawn Dale to look (and smoke) just like Hardwick, and he appeared on more than 250 episodes. He shared an Emmy for outstanding animated program in 1999 and was...
