One of the trickiest aspects of HBO’s House of the Dragon was the way viewers spent roughly half of the drama’s first season with “younger” versions of our two heroines — Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower — before a time jump brought longer-term stars Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke to the screen.
That put a lot of pressure on Milly Alcock and Emily Carey to anchor those initial episodes, which they did extremely well. Alcock had the greater visibility, quickly becoming a red carpet favorite and setting herself up for the opportunity to play Supergirl. Carey’s first major House of the Dragon follow-up, Netflix’s adaptation of Holly Smale’s coming-of-age Geek Girl series, isn’t as high profile as joining DC’s House of Zor-El, but it’s a solid showcase for its 21-year-old star.

Andrews introduced the world to the Foxworth family with Flowers in the Attic. This tragic story of lavish wealth, greed and the horrifying actions a grandmother, Olivia Foxworth, made to hide her daughter’s children would play out in seven additional novels that became a pop culture phenomenon, later spawning numerous film adaptations. Lifetime’s four-part limited movie series Flowers in the Attic: The Origin shared the heart-wrenching, twisted story of Olivia Winfield Foxworth. With one episode left, Flowers in the Attic: The Origin is about to make the final steps that led to the events from the well-known blockbuster Flowers in the Attic.
It's been an absolutely crazy ride so far, but you haven't seen anything yet.
Jemima Rooper was kind enough to give her thoughts on playing Olivia Winfield Foxworth and viewing tips to get the most out of your finale-viewing experience.
What's your favorite thing about bringing Olivia to life?
My favorite thing is the variety! Playing a character at different stages of her life, building the back story that leads to such an undoing is just meaty and fabulous and the biggest gift for an actor.
I have to know how many times you wanted to flip the script so that Oliva could get the better of Malcolm!
That never even occurred to me! I’m very compliant and enjoyed...

The four-episode series gives us the backstory to all the twisted family drama that made V.C. Andrews’ 1979 novel Flowers in the Attic such a sensation and spawned more books and adaptations over the years. There is gothic business afoot in Lifetime’s Flowers in the Attic: The Origin, a four-part prequel to the V.C. Andrews bestsellers. Kelsey Grammer is a wealthy family patriarch; Alana Boden is his pregnant Mrs. in a tale of dark family matters — and revenge. Joining them for the dark tale are costars Hannah Dodd, Max Irons, Jemima Rooper, Paul Wesley, and Harry Hamlin among others. The Origin follows Olivia Winfield (Rooper), who finds herself wooed by Irons’ Malcolm Foxworth. After a whirlwind romance, Olivia soon discovers that her fairytale life as the mistress of Foxworth Hall isn’t what she once imagined. The new series chronicles the events that eventually led to her notorious decision to lock her grandchildren in the attic.
