The Karlovy Vary Film Festival, the leading movie event in Central and Eastern Europe, will honor Tim Robbins with its award for outstanding contribution to world cinema, the fest announced Tuesday, and the actor will screen two pics he directed and wrote, the acerbic polemic “Bob Roberts” and the tribute to pre-wwii music and politics “Cradle Will Rock.”

Sideshow Bob is probably the greatest guest character that The Simpsons ever created, and the casting of Kelsey Grammer is the biggest part of what makes this character so enduring. His voice, so rich and lyrical, brings Bob to life time and time again. His character appeared in the very first season and has gone on to appear in eleven more episodes…well…twelve actually but one of those wasn’t really a proper Bob episode…so we wont count that one.
As we approach the premiere of the 25th season of The Simpsons, I thought it would be fun to go through all those classic Sideshow Bob episodes…and rank the crap outta them! So here we go, we’ll start from the worst and work our way up to…the very best Sideshow Bob episode ever.

Look at the current landscape of American comedy in TV and film, and you will see an institution that has been shaped, molded and influenced by one show more than any other, for 39 years. Saturday Night Live has consistently proven itself to be the training ground for some of the best writers and performers in the business today, and it is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
Created by Lorne Michaels, and developed by Dick Ebersol (previously NBC’s Vice President of late-night programming) in 1975, Saturday Night Live is the late-night live television sketch comedy and variety show that was designed to parody culture and politics with a repertory cast, celebrity guest hosts and a musical guest performance each week. It is one of the longest-running network TV shows in America, with a bulging trophy cabinet that includes 36 prime-time Emmys, 3 Writer’s Guild Association awards and a Peabody. In 2012, it...

If there’s one thing I enjoy more than listening to crack-smoking Toronto mayor Rob Ford talk about recently purchasing illegal drugs or that time he didn’t tell a female staffer he wanted to have oral sex with her, it’s thinking who I will one day hear saying this stuff when the inevitable movie about his time in office gets made. Robert Roberts returned to ABC's Good Morning America on Wednesday following a nearly six-month hiatus to fight a rare bone marrow and blood disorder. "I have been waiting 174 days to say this: 'Good Morning America,'" said Roberts, wearing a bright blue dress and an even brighter smile. At the top of the 7 a.m. hour, President Obama and Michelle Obama appeared in a taped welcome-back message, with the president saying: "Good Morning America and welcome back Robin." Chiming in, the first lady, who will be interviewed by Roberts in the coming days, said: "Robin, we

As you've probably noticed, unless you just this minute slipped out of a coma (and if that's the case, stop reading this and go call your loved ones), it's election day. Four years on from the election of the first African-American commander-in-chief, President Barack Obama is squaring off at the ballot box against the Republican challenger, Mitt Romney in what looks likely to be the tightest election since... well, 2004, probably. Needless to say, if you haven't cast your vote, stop reading this go vote, and then come back -- it's just about the most important thing you'll do this calendar year. But if you've already done your civic duty and you're looking to take your mind off desperately checking FiveThirtyEight and exit polls every five minutes, we've pulled together a list of five of our favorite election-themed movies. Check them out below, and let us know your own favorites in the comments section.

American studies professor Ian Scott argues that this amusing if puerile comedy can't escape the fact that, when it comes to political extremes, life has now overtaken art
Is this the best political film I've ever seen? No – it's pretty puerile, actually. Will Ferrell plays congressman Cam Brady, a misogynistic, conservative Democrat who is campaigning – unchallenged – for re-election in North Carolina. Then he leaves a filthy message, meant for his girlfriend, on a Christian family's answerphone by mistake. So his biggest backers, evil tycoons the Motch brothers, decide to put another local man up against him.
It is a bit more intelligent than it first seems, though. It's set in the 14th congressional district of North Carolina, which is quite amusing, since there isn't one: North Carolina only has 13. And, although the Motch brothers are little more than caricatures, their name – and financial clout – is presumably meant to recall the Koch brothers,...

This weekend, Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis will square off on the big screen for the first time in the comedy The Campaign (formerly Dog Fight and Rivals). Ferrell plays Camden "Cam" Brady, a longtime North Carolina Congressman, with Galifianakis as his newcomer rival Martin "Marty" Huggins. According to the movie's stars, it may be the first comedy of its kind.
"I don't know of any kind of big, R-rated political comedy," Galifianakis told Hollywood Dailies' own Patrick Stinson about the movie. "I don't know if there is one." (1992's Bob Roberts comes to mind as far as a R-Rated political comedy, though the scale was considerably smaller.)

Dashiell Hammet? Akira Kurosawa? Are these among the progenitors of the spaghetti western?! Yep. Hammet’s Red Harvest informed Kurosawa’s Yojimbo, which was transformed into the first Sergio Leone Dollars blockbuster that took the world by storm (although it was not the first example of the form). Clint Eastwood’s Man With No Name was treated by Us distributor United Artists as a western James Bond and marketed accordingly. All three Dollars films were released in the Us in 1967, although the first was shot in 1964. As was the custom, this original Italian trailer Americanizes the names of the cast and crew: Leone becomes Bob Roberts, Gian Maria Volonte becomes John Wells, etc.

To begin talking about Green Lantern, the man robbed of his personal pronoun by a pan-galactic evil, I have to talk about the end. There’s no way around it I’m afraid. Not the generic conclusion for these sorts of movies; you know the one, the hero flies off into the distance, either under his own power or with assistance, and there’s a close up of his girlfriend, gooey eyed, looking ahead to all those occasions on which she’ll be imperilled and he’ll be there to save her. No, we care not a jot for that ending but the post-credits teaser.
As this is DC not Marvel, there’s no Nick Fury, but one character, inexplicably, acts contrary to the moral code hitherto shown, and does something designed to set up the movie’s sequel, despite there being no obvious reason to...

I hang with a lot of people with babies, so I’ve seen this clip all over Facebook this last week. But when I finally watched it, I was pretty amused. It’s a trailer for a short experimental film. I now present, “Baby trashes bar in Las Palmas.”

Now he’s moved on to American Idol.

1999's The Blair Witch Project was expected to spawn a wave of imitators. It's good news for a powerful subgenre that it didn't
Today's Commission us is brought to you by commenter numbersix99, who turned up a few queries in his musings on the "found footage" subgenre.
"One of the main trends we're seeing in cinema is the idea of 'found footage'. Blair Witch made it big, but we failed to see any imitators hit the mainstream ... until Cloverfield and then Paranormal Activity. Why did it take so long to become popular after Blair Witch [and] what about it makes it so effective (did it detour into TV with the likes of The Office)? What are its flaws? And will it work applied to non-horror genres, such as the upcoming found-footage comedy The Virginity Hit?"
Well, numbersix99. What typically happens after a box-office smash is that a raft of imitations are given the green light.

"Uh, I uh. Well, you know, I grew up watching people in interviews saying love scenes are mechanical and no fun and blah, blah, blah. What sucks about making out with a pretty girl? Sum it up in that. Sometimes my job is awesome."

Armando Iannucci's political comedy In The Loop hits our screens next month, and here's an exclusive look at the poster soon to be adorning a bus stop near you.It doesn't continue with the Obama-style riff of the early promo, but the poster's garlanding of stars will hopefully pique people's interest in what is one of the sharpest, most acidic political satires since Bob Roberts.Closely resembling acclaimed BBC comedy, The Thick Of It, In The Loop follows the scheming of the Us and British governments to contrive a war in the Middle East. Peter Capaldi reprises his Thick Of It role as sweary svengali Malcolm Tucker, and James Gandolfini plays General Miller, a fierce opponent of the war, with Tom Hollander caught somewhere in the maelstrom as meek-mannered Development Minister Simon Foster. In The Loop is released in the UK on April 17.
