Pop orchestra leader responsible for the mambo craze that swept America
during the early 1950s. Numerous hit recordings included, among others,
"Patricia", "Mambo Jambo" and "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White".
Would often interject his musical numbers with his signature grunt of
"Dilo!".
Had the original hit version of "Mambo #5" on RCA in 1955, some four
decades before it became a 1999 hit all over again (this time with
lyrics) for Lou Bega. Prado's signature grunts may still be heard on the
Bega recording.
He was awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Recording at 1529 Vine Street in Hollywood, California.
