May’s home entertainment offerings are ending on a high note, led by the release of Alex Garland’s Annihilation on various formats this Tuesday. There are a handful of cult films getting an HD overhaul this week, including Zombie 3, Zombie 4: After Death, and Shocking Death from Severin Films, as well as Bloodsuckers from Outer Space (courtesy of those wonderful maniacs over at Vinegar Syndrome), and The Reincarnation of Peter Proud from Kino Lorber Classics.
Other notable releases for May 29th include Haunted: The Complete Series, They Remain, and The Lodgers.

Yes, we’ve all lived before; when I come back I don’t care who I am as long as I’m in the 1%. When Michael Sarrazin reaches into a previous life his big sacrifice is to abandon the gorgeous Cornelia Sharpe for the gorgeous Jennifer O’Neill, arousing the suspicions of his wife in his previous life, gorgeous Margot Kidder. The show looks great, Jerry Goldsmith’s music is beautiful, but it runs up against real trouble in the script and directing departments.

Say hello (in your best Wookieespeak) to Joonas Suotamo, the new Chewbacca!
Suotamo, 30, will take over the fur suit and signature roar for the new Han Solo movie, officially replacing veteran Star Wars actor Peter Mayhew, who portrayed Harrison Ford’s shaggy sidekick in the first three films and has been sidelined due to knee problems.
Chewbacca made it into the first official cast photo, released on Tuesday, but not all fans realized it was a newcomer under that mask.

For the upcoming young Han Solo film, producers needed a young Chewbacca -- and the filmmakers found their star in 29-year-old Finnish basketball player Joonas Suotamo.
Suotamo is taking on the mantel from longtime Star Wars legend Peter Mayhew, who originated the role in the first Star Wars trilogy, beginning with 1977’s Episode IV – A New Hope.

This won't be the first time Suotamo dons the hirsute costume. He previously appeared alongside Mayhew in Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, where he performed the more physical action scenes that proved too difficult for the 71-year-old Mayhew.
However, for the upcoming prequel story, Suotamo is going to be in the driver's seat, playing the celebrated Wookiee throughout the entire film.

Despite a ratings drop of over 30% by the time its second episode aired, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a huge success for Marvel so far, so it’s not hard to imagine that they must be considering at least a few more TV shows at this point.
With a massive catalogue of characters to exploit – many of whom simply aren’t worthy of a big screen outing – the studio behind the most commercially successful superhero movie of all-time now has the chance to also dominate the small screen too.
So, to follow up our recent feature about 10 DC superheroes deserving of their own series (you can check that out by clicking here), here are some suggestions for Marvel characters who should also be adapted to television sooner rather than later! As always, we’d love to hear what you think about these, so sound off in the comment section below.

Starring Sudeep, Samanth Ruth Prabhu, Nani
Written & Directed by S S Rajamouli
This is a love triangle with a twist. It’s a the story of a man, woman and…a fly! By now we’ve all heard of Rajamouli’s Eega cracking boxoffice records inTamil. The Hindi version comes to us with a tremendous pre-release expectations. Shall we just saw, we were Eega to see this film?
Makkhi doesn’t disappoint. Not by a long shot. It’s a fiercely original and engaging piece of cinema replete with special effects that endow human qualities on a fly, making it a cool tool of vendetta .
Yup, the fly creates quite a buzz! Specially around the film’s antagonist Sudeep’s ears, as it tortures the yell out of the villain who had bumped off the leading lady’s angelic suitor, little realizing that he, the suitor, would be reborn as a fly.

Below you will find a list of movie that Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz director Edgar Wright has never seen. Not long ago Wright went out and asked his friends and fans to recommend some movies they thought he may have missed over the last thirty years of his life. He got recommendations from Quentin Tarantino, Daniel Waters, Bill Hader, John Landis, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Greg Mottola, Schwartzman, Doug Benson, Rian Johnson, Larry Karaszeski, Josh Olson, Harry Knowles and hundreds of fans on this blog.
From these recommendations, Wright created a master list of recommended films that were frequently mentioned. The director now wants the fans to choose which of the films on the list he should watch on the big screen.
Wright is holding a film event at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles called Films Edgar Has Never Seen.

Edgar Wright's latest epic project [1] has him partnering with Quentin Tarantino, Judd Apatow, Joss Whedon, Bill Hader, Guillermo Del Toro, Joe Dante, Greg Mottola, Harry Knowles, Rian Johnson and, probably, several of you. Like all of us, Wright has a bunch of classic and cult films he's never seen. Unlike all of us, he has the means to see them for the first time on the big screen and will do just that in December [2] at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles during Films Edgar Has Never Seen. The director of Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World asked both his famous friends (some of which are listed above) and fans to send in their personal must see lists and, from those titles, Wright came up with one mega list from which he'll pick a few movies to watch December 9-16. After the jump check...

Michael Sarrazin, a handsome, sensitive-looking leading man who was a staple in movies throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, died of cancer on Sunday, April 17. He was 70 years old.
Disc Dish’s favorite film starring Mr. Sarrazin was 1975’s The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, a creepy horror mystery about a college professor who begins to experience eerie flashbacks from what he believes a previous life incarnation. Directed by J. Lee Thompson, the film foresaw a slew of life/after-life movies that we’ve seen over the subsequent decades, including The Sixth Sense (1991), What Dreams May Come (1998) and Dead Again (1991).
Unfortunately, Peter Proud has never been released on DVD, so it might be hard to track down (even on VHS). Here are five other films Afeaturing the late Mr. Sarrazin that we recommend and are a bit easier to obtain.
They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969)

After directing his next film, The Social Network, Academy Award-nominated director David Fincher (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) will reunite with screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for the first time since the two paired on Seven in 1995. According to THR, Fincher is attached to direct a remake of the 1975 movie The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, which Walker will adapt from the book of the same name by Max Ehrlich.
The original film script, also written by Ehrlich, told the story of Peter Proud, a college professor who started investigating his dreams when he came to the realization that they were actually images from his own past life experiences. Part of the popular supernatural thriller movie trend of the mid-70s, Peter Proud was criticized for a subplot involving incest. Fincher and Walker are expected to stay true to the novel, but update it for a modern audience.

Fifteen years after working together on "Se7en," director David Fincher and screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker are reuniting for a new adaptation of Max Ehrlich's novel "The Reincarnation of Peter Proud," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book was previously made into a 1975 movie by Ehrlich, who adapted his own work, and J. Lee Thompson, best known for helming the original "Cape Fear."
As with many films dealing with reincarnation, the plot is pretty ridiculous even if you believe in the concept. A college professor has nightmares involving a murder, which he eventually realizes was his own, from a previous life. And in the process of discovery, he unknowingly becomes romantically involved with his (past incarnation's) daughter.
Despite the silly and scandalous storyline, Ehrlich's book could lend itself to an interesting, Hitchcockian sort of psychological thriller. Unfortunately, Thompson's original film is apparently not good for much more than seeing a...

Sure, David Fincher is currently working on the much talked about Facebook origin story The Social Network. But he's also working on several other things. For one, THR's Heat Vision is reporting that the director of Se7en is reteaming with screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker for an adaptation of Max Ehrlich's novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. The film centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life. This will be the second cinematic adaptation of the novel, which was released in 1975 along with a film directed by J. Lee Thompson, and starring Michael Sarrazin and Margot Kidder. The original thriller drew heat due to its subplot involving incest. Fincher...

Director David Fincher and his former “Seven” writer Andrew Kevin Walker (Really? Two first names? That’s just greedy) will be remaking the 1975 supernatural thriller “The Reincarnation of Peter Proud” by Max Ehrlich, who wrote the novel and the movie adaptation for director J. Lee Thompson. The film didn’t set the world on fire, though apparently it did stir up a bit of controversy for including a subplot that involved incest. The story follows college professor Peter Proud, who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions for some answers. With his girlfriend in tow, our hero discovers a woman and her daughter may be keys to unlocking his past life, though perhaps he should just have left it all alone. Past lives, I tell ya, unless you were Cleopatra or Abraham Lincoln...

The writer/director tag team behind 1995's thriller masterpiece Se7en are getting back in the ring to tackle The Reincarnation of Peter Proud based on the novel of the same name. Seasoned thriller director David Fincher will be at the helm with Andrew Kevin Walker (who also wrote one of my favorites, Brainscan) at the quill and ink. The novelized Peter Proud was written in 1973 by Max Ehrlich who at the same time adapted his story into a screenplay to be later directed by J. Lee Thompson. According to THR, Proud is about a college professor who starts seeing progressively more terrifying visions of what he discovers to be a past life. When he reconnects with people who were a part of the life he once lived, he realizes he may be in more danger than he had planned on. Tossed into the mix is a weird subplot involving ...

The project is being set up over at Columbia Pictures, with David Fincher attached to direct the new adaptation. Fincher will also produce along with Michael De Luca.
