- Birth nameFrancis Jean Marcel Poulenc
- Francis Poulenc was born on January 7, 1899 in Paris, France. He was a composer and writer, known for Call Me by Your Name (2017), The Great Beauty (2013) and The Metropolitan Opera HD Live (2006). He died on January 30, 1963 in Paris, France.
- The son of an industrial magnate, Poulenc never had to work for a living and was once dubbed "the rich playboy of French music". He waged a lifelong battle against the indolence his independent wealth afforded him; those who knew him said it was a miracle he accomplished as much as he did.
- In the 1920s Poulenc was a member of "Les Six", a group of young composers who rebelled against Romanticism and Impressionism in French music. They were mentored by Erik Satie and publicized by Jean Cocteau.
