- A former SEAL team commander
- Survived cancer.
- Served with SEAL Team FOUR in Beirut for six month during 1983. He was present during the marine barrack bombing on the 23rd of October, 1983.
- After his tour with SEAL Team FOUR, he went on to serve with the famous anti-terrorist unit SEAL Team SIX for several years.
- His autobiography "Warrior Soul," was published in January 2004. It details his service as a member of Navy SEAL Teams Four and Six, including his role in the capture of terrorist Abu Abbas.
- A graduate of BUD/S[Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL] class 114. He was one of the 37 who graduated out of the 145 who started the course. This is one of 4 classes out of 280 in which no one quit during "hell-week."
- He was active in the 2004 initiative to recall Writers Guild President Charles Holland.
