The 2000s were a great time for science fiction. Thanks to The Matrix closing out the 90s, studios were more willing to give the green light to stories about science gone awry, leading to favorites such as A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Paprika, as well as superhero hits like Spider-Man 2, X2, and Iron Man.
With so much good stuff out there, it’s no surprise that some really good movies would pass by audiences. Sometimes, these movies simply got buried by higher profile and more popular works. Sometimes, they were rejected by audiences disturbed by their audacious or disturbing ideals.
For anyone who wants to catch up on some sci-fi movies they have missed, here are ten great overlooked entries from the start of the millennium.

The Voice UK is back tomorrow and we've already brought you some spoilers about what to expect, but if that's still not enough for you then don't worry - now, we have some sneak peeks at the auditions.
First up is Ross Harris, who you might have heard a little bit about - because his cousin is Liam Payne from some band called One Direction. But can the session drummer - who has played for acts like The Saturdays and Ella Henderson - convince the coaches to turn around?
Also taking part in the show this weekend are duo The Mac Bros, a Liverpool-based duo who decide to perform not one, not two, but three songs. Will their ambition win over the coaches?
And our third sneak peek is at Tim Arnold (whose mum is Polly Perkins, aka Rose Cotton from EastEnders!) He was signed with his band Jocasta in the '90s,...

It's week four of blind auditions on The Voice and the show ain't messing around - we're getting fifteen acts taking to the stage this week in a bid to win an all-important chair spin from the coaches.
And if you want to know a little bit more about those 15 hopefuls, you're in luck, because we have all their pictures, song details and info. Read on for everything you need to know before Saturday night...
1. Tim Arnold - 39, London
Song: 'Running Up That Hill' - Kate Bush
What you need to know: Tim's mum is Polly Perkins who played Rose Cotton in EastEnders - June Brown is a close family friend. Tim also had a taste of success with Britpop band Jocasta in the '90s, but they were dropped on the day their album came out (way harsh). He's still working on music and recently recorded with Gary Kemp.

Well, lo and behold, we've gathered the most exciting movies and TV shows being added to America's most popular streaming service, straight from Netflix themselves.
"Rocky" fans will be pumped to know that the first five boxing flicks (sorry, "Rocky Balboa" fans) will be added August 1, joining other '70s, '80s, and '90s movie favorites "Face/Off" (slow-motion doves!), "Mad Max" (apocalyptic leather!), "Spice World" (spice up your life!), "The Birdcage" (Calista Flockhart was in this,...

Ten years ago a science fiction film soared into cinemas across the world, featuring a classic story of man vs machine and starring the talented Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. The film, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, followed the characters of Polly Perkins, an enthusiastic journalist, and her former lover Joe Sullivan, the titular Sky Captain. Together they investigate a mysterious invasion of New York City by an army of robots, in an alternative-history 1939 setting.
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow was a brilliant piece of cinema, drawing on a classic style to deliver an engaging and exciting story. Upon its release, it was praised by critics, who complimented the “gorgeous” visuals and deemed the film a “triumph.” Legendary film critic Roger Ebert gave Sky Captain a maximum four out of four stars, asserting “it reminded me of how I felt the first time I...

Bryan Kirkwood has recruited her to resume her role as Many Salter. No word on whether her one-time love interest Sean Maguire is interested in returning to the show. She is the latest recruit as Kirkwood tries to re-shape a show that suffered in the wake of a series of cast departures earlier in the year. Other new recruits include Danielle Harold, David Essex, Polly Perkins and Anne Mitchell. they have big boots to fill since Barbara Windsor and Samantha Womack were last seen heading in the opposite direction.

Danielle Harold joins Eastenders. Co BBC
Up and coming actress Danielle Harold is set to join the cast of Eastenders as the long lost, or rather – never before heard about – granddaughter of Billy Mitchell. It was inevitable that Executive producer Bryan Kirkwood would find a long lost relative to join the Mitchell clan after introducing a bunch of estranged relatives to the Square in recent months. First came Anne Mitchell as Tanya’s Mum, then David Essex as Aflie’s uncle and only two weeks ago we heard that Polly Perkins is set to join the cast as Dot’s sister. Ian Beale is in need of some loving so maybe his long lost fair Godmother will be next to arrive in the square.
18 year old Danielle will play 15 year old Lola, who is living in care when she is found by her grandparents Billy and Julie. The character is described as sharp and cocky.

Dot Cotton's long-lost sister is set to join 'EastEnders'. The gravel-voiced pensioner's sibling, Rose, will appear for the first time in the BBC One soap's 26-year history this summer when Dot tracks her down in a bid to end a long-standing feud. A source close to the soap explained: "Dot and Rose have been estranged most of their lives since Rose did the unforgivable - had an affair with Dot's first husband, Charlie. "Dot's decision to forgive comes about after a bout of hypochondria." Rose will be played by Polly Perkins, 67, and her character will very much be the opposite of her...

EastEnders favourite Dot Branning is to be reunited with her estranged sister Rose in a forthcoming storyline, Digital Spy can confirm. Bosses at the BBC soap have cast actress and singer Polly Perkins in the role of Rose, who has had little contact with Dot for most of their lives. Animosity between the siblings began many years ago when Rose embarked on an affair with Dot's first husband Charlie. However, after suffering a bout of hypochondria later this year, Dot - played by June Brown - will decide that it's finally time to put things right and track down her sister. Billed as "flighty, fun and not one to age gracefully", Rose is very different from Dot and is not pleased to see her after so many years. However, insiders have hinted that there could be another reason why Rose is uneasy about the unexpected reunion. (more)...

Jose here, to remind you of an underrated gem from 2004.
When I was a child I was addicted to Superman. Not the Christopher Reeve movies and obviously not the weird TV show with Teri Hatcher, but the classic animated shorts from the 1930s. We had a VHS tape which I could watch for hours and hours completely enthralled by the terrific stories, the foreign adventures and even the sense of menace and doom conveyed by Dave Fleischer in under ten minutes.
Years later I had the same feeling watching Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Kerry Conran's debut film was a tribute to this era which featured giants robots, timeless kingdoms atop the Himalayas, perky reporters and heroines with eye patches.
Everything in the film is CGI, except for the actors, which gives it a retro-futuristic air. With nods to Dave Fleischer, Flash Gordon, Indiana Jones (which is...
