It’s been a song-filled year for the guys of How I Met Your Mother. Music man Neil Patrick Harris starred in Stephen Sondheim’s Company. Jason Segel stretched his pipes in The Muppets. Now Josh Radnor is leading a one-night only benefit reading of the romantic musical comedy She Loves Me at Roundabout’s Stephen Sondheim Theatre on Dec. 5. His co-stars include Tony winner Jane Krakowski, Tony nominee Victor Garber, and a 15-member orchestra — not bad for a guy whose previous singing experience was basically crooning for laughs on TV. Since we already know that he’s a skilled romantic comedian from Himym,...

Today: Are South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone the next Rodgers and Hammerstein?
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country)!
Q: I read an article on Slate.com praising the musical genius of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who I enjoy as well. Some of the comparisons are great, like Satan's "Up There" to Ariel's "Part of Your World.” Basically, they equate the two as a modern Rodgers and Hammerstein duo. I don't know much about theater or Broadway productions, but I'd figure you (and most of Ae) would. Could the guys who created a talking and singing piece of poo be on the same scale as Rodgers and Hammerstein? -- Daniel, Baltimore

It's Cheyenne On Glee! Squeeeee!
I thought I'd start of this week's column with some fun new pics I found recently!
First, I've got the exclusive first look at Cheyenne Jackson's first appearance on Glee as Will Schuester's new rival Dustin Goulsby.
Don't you love a man in black!
Adam Rose/Fox
In case you don't remember, last month Glee creator Ryan Murphy told me that Jackson "...is going to sing. He is going to dance, of course. He is the new coach of Vocal Adrenaline. He’s a complete villain. He wears all black. He’s a handsome, villain who will become very intertwined in Will’s life."
And we can't wait for Cheyenne's appearance on Tuesday's ep!
Speaking of things I can't wait for is new Torchwood miniseries (Ha! Whoever threw the rotten cabbage at me missed!) so to tide us over are two new pics I spotted of John Barrowman.

Johnny Depp's pirate skipper Capt. Jack Sparrow has topped a new online poll of movie mariners.
The Pirates of The Caribbean rogue, which Depp based on rock star Keith Richards, beat Russell Crowe's Jack Aubrey in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Wind's Will Parker, played by Matthew Modine.
Also making the top 10 on the CNN sea-faring list are Kevin Costner's Mariner from Waterworld and Mutiny on the Bounty's Fletcher Christian, played by Marlon Brando in 1962.

Quite a favourite show for Cult Spy, and not only for its phobia-inducing nature, The Tripods was abandoned by the BBC in 1985 when plans to adapt the final book of John Christopher's trilogy were scrapped. This was a harsh call, as the second season vastly improved on the first, which included far too much chateau-based padding in the middle with barely a three-legged foe in sight. In some ways, it was a victim of its own ambition, particularly on a visual level. While the Tripods and their city were imaginatively and superbly designed, the filming methods used by the BBC couldn't give them the right scope or texture on many occasions. Given the absence of the trilogy's final part on television, the final words mournfully uttered by the heroic young lad Will Parker have taken on extra significance. "Has it all been for nothing?" he said with a trembling...
