Elliot Page criticized Canada’s rollback of LGBTQ rights on the stage of the Juno Awards in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Sunday night.
“We are at a time in history where the rights of LGBTQ2+ people are being revoked, restricted and eliminated throughout the world, and the effects are devastating,” Page, a transgender Halifax native, said in a speech presenting twin singer-songwriters Tegan and Sara with the Junos’ humanitarian award. Page praised the work of the Tegan and Sara Foundation for 2Slgbtq+ youth, supporting health care services to youth programs. Earlier in the week, he said at BFI Flare, London’s LGBTQ film festival, that “30% of young people identify as LGBTQ,” referring to a survey released earlier this year about Gen Z adults in the U.S. “So I’m sorry, but this is not niche.”

“Northern Touch”, arguably the most important Canadian rap song of all time, turns 25 this year.
To mark the occasion, The Black Academy’s 2023 Legacy Awards, which took place last night at History in Toronto, closed the show with a tribute to the iconic track. The song’s original artists — Kardinal Offishall, Red1 of Rascalz, Choclair and Thrust — introduced a new crop of Canadian rappers — Taaylee G, Tamir, Ysn Fab and Zach Zoya — to perform their take on the 1998 rap anthem.
Eventually, the OGs even joined the young emcees to finish the song. Check out the performance below.

It’s been 25 years since Choclair told us he likes “chillin’, ‘Monday Night Raw’ watching” on Rascalz’ legendary hit “Northern Touch”. And while a lot’s changed — smartphones, global warming, an impending AI apocalypse — some things remain exactly the same.
For one, the Toronto rapper is still a devout wrestling fan. We spend the first 10 minutes of our interview shooting the breeze about the latest WWE storylines. “I don’t want them to break up the Usos,” he insists. “Don’t break up that Bloodline movement!”

Kardinal Offishall still remembers a time when nobody wanted to hire him. And he means nobody.

What does Black History Month mean in 2023?
For Shad, it’s about telling a fuller story.
“To me, what Black History Month means is shining a light on a lot of our history that’s been erased or downplayed,” the Toronto rapper and Emmy award-winning host explains to Et Canada. “Part of what that does is it introduces so many new possibilities to the imagination, especially of Black people. When our history is erased or reduced, it limits our imagination as far as what’s possible for us.”
But it’s also, quite simply, about having a “more complete history, period,” he adds. “If you don’t have the Black presence and you don’t have the Black perspective, then you have a limited story.”

When Drake said last month that his first Ovo Festival would be a "magical" night, he didn't tell a lie. Taking place at his hometown of Toronto, Canada on August 1, the gig which doubled as part of his Away From Home tour was a star-studded one with the likes of Rick Ross, Kardinal Offishall, Fabolous, Bun B and Young Jeezy lined up as guests.

In support of her new single "Fall in Love", Estelle premieres not just one, but two music videos. Both of the clips are directed by Sanaa Hamri and see her falling for a guy played by "Grey's Anatomy" star Jesse Williams. One additionally features John Legend, and the other has Nas making a brief appearance.
"Fall in Love" is taken from Estelle's forthcoming studio album "All of Me" which is planned to be released later this year. The track reportedly is released as the lead single from the upcoming release, replacing previously-unveiled track "Freak" which is now named as a buzz song.

The news of Eminem's new album Recovery has got the rap world excited again about new music from Slim Shady. Based on his collaborators, it sounds like Recover will have a distinctly different sound than his past work. The list of producers on the album includes Alchemist, Just Blaze, Denaun Porter and Boi-1da.
It's the latter name that really jumps out, as Boi-1da is responsible for some of the stickiest singles of the past year, most notably the Drake smashes "Best I Ever Had," "Forever (Remix)" and "Over." But if the guy is going to ascend to the top tier of hip-hop producers, he really should think about changing his handle. Rap names are usually forever, even when efforts are made to change them (just look at the number of people who still use one of Diddy's old monikers). Boi-1da violates a couple of naming rules, as...

Nicki Minaj is hip-hop's leading lady at the moment and the Young Money rapper proved she's adept at handling that spotlight during her turn as co-host of Bet's "Rip the Runway."
The femcee was joined by "The Game" actor Pooch Hall, and delivered her trademark sass both in rhyme and in jokes.
"Pooch, you haven't even complimented me on my shoes yet," Nicki said during the opening minutes, teasing the actor as the pair introduced the show, set to air Monday (March 15) on Bet and Centric.
The Queens lyricist doubled as a performer also, joining Ludacris onstage for his hit "My Chick Bad."
"My chick bad, tell me if you seen her," Luda rapped. "She always bring the racket like Venus and Serena.

Move over Ke$ha. Estelle wants you to know she can be just as freaky as you and she doesn’t need to brush her teeth with Jack Daniels to do so. In her video for the hypnotic “Freak,” the American Girl wants to get her freak on in an intergalactic, cosmic kind of way. The trippy clip, directed by Nabil Elderkin, is a cross between Grace Jones and Missy Elliott with Estelle dancing in outer space, adorned in a wacked out space suit, then some great formal gear and fabulous gold mouth glitter. Joining her for the party is Kardinal Offishall, plus great...

After her breakthough album Shine, British songstress-rapper Estelle has returned with a new single, "Freak," from her forthcoming album, All of Me. However, the song's video — segments of which show her wearing black makeup on her face and body — did not go over well with some of her fans online.
"Those comments were the first thing I saw after we released the video trailer," Estelle told MTV News on Monday (March 1). "It's like, 'Are you joking?' "
The "Freak" clip was directed by frequent Kanye West collaborator Nabil Elderkin and the song itself is a bouncy dance-track produced by David Guetta, featuring Canadian Mc Kardinal Offishall. The lyrics address people releasing their individuality and the clip features Estelle in a multitude of looks,...
