With Christmas now only a week away, there’s a big day of genre-related home entertainment releases to look forward to in the meantime, just in case you were in need of some last-minute gift ideas (or if you were looking to spoil yourself, which is totally cool). Easily my most anticipated Blu-ray release for all of 2017, Synapse Films' stunning 4K restoration of Suspiria gets the royal treatment via an incredible three-disc limited edition Steelbook set this Tuesday, and Severin Films is also keeping busy with their HD upgrade of The Amicus Collection, which includes Asylum, And Now The Screaming Starts, and The Beast Must Die.
Other notable Blu-ray and DVD releases for December 19th include American Gothic, Leatherface, mother!, and the limited edition Steelbook for Donnie Darko.
American Gothic (Scream Factory, Blu-ray)
A new tale of terror from the director of The Legend of Hell House and The Incubus.

Fresh into the international premiere of her horror-comedy film Hail Satan! at Fantastic Planet Film Festival in Sydney, Australia, actress-producer Denesa Chan has announced that her next project will pair her with author-turned-director Craig Spector for the feature Dead Lines.
Adapted by Spector from his bestselling novel of the same name, Dead Lines is (according to the PR), “a ghost story of seduction and psycho-sexual manipulation between two young women and the man who killed himself in their NYC loft before they moved in -- and whose soul has become trapped in the subatomic DNA of the place. It's a sensually charged and viscerally disturbing portrait of a toxic love triangle between the living and the dead. Meryl thought she had found the perfect fantasy, and he wants inside of her completely. But what if her dream come true is a hellish nightmare that refuses to leave?”

Breathing new life into a sub-genre that, it can be argued, has become somewhat stagnant, is new director Ryan Lieske, with his adaptation of horror author Elizabeth Massie's very subversive, very gory, zombie tale Abed. First printed in Skipp and Spector's Still Dead, an anthology of tales by the top names in horror literature, which was loosely based in the Dead universe created by George A. Romero, Abed tells the story a couple torn apart by the effects of the zombie apocalypse, and one woman determined to finally be a grandmother. What helps makes this project extra special amongst the horde of other zombie movies both feature length and short form, is the inclusion of one Mister Philip Nutman. If his name rings a bell...

The denizens of The Night Crew Podcast have been busy these past few weeks, releasing not one, but two new episodes of their groundbreaking podcast.
In a decidedly “Not Safe For Work” episode, Thom Carnell (Fangoria, Dread Central) and Sean “The Butcher” Smithson (Fangoria, Twitch) talk with Lee Gambin (Fangoria) about his Melbourne Australia-based play about Stephen King called The King Of Bangor, and Twitch’s Andrew Mack delivers his Twitch News Of The Week. Author, journalist, and cinephile Phillip Nutman discusses Sergio Corbucci and his output of gritty, grimy, sweaty dirt operas. Plus, there’s the usual orgy of trailers, music, and smack talk. It's hot to trot and freer than sex with a hippy, it's episode 10 of The Night Crew!
And then, in an episode dubbed “A Home Invasion Party,” Thom and Sean break down two out-of-the-box home invasion films of yesteryear, Because Of...

Nearing the end of season finale, episode 11 of The Night Crew, focuses on the Home Invasion sub-genre with Kidnapped director Miguel Angel Vivas, and a double feature breakdown of Because Of The Cats (1972) and the classic Key Largo (1948) from maestro John Huston. As tradition would have it, Sean and Thom go over what they have been watching over the past week, author Philip Nutman continues his dissertation on all things western cinema, Fangoria editor-in-chief Chris Alexander falls in love with The American, and Twitch stalwart Andrew Mack delivers the News Of The Week. All this, plus inter-tech-species robot love, high drama, music, trailers, and general buffoonery that is securing their place in the annals of podcasting greatness, one embarrassing yet informed revelation...

On this episode The Crew takes a moment to hang out amongst themselves sans a guest, and catches up on what they've been watching. The Mack does his usual Twitch News, Thom gives another outspoken commentary on his Stinker Of The Week, and I finally seal the deal with The Crystalbot, and she deals with my Karen Black obsession quite well. Enough "F" bombs to land us squarely in the hard R bracket, and Zardoz lends His wisdom to the proceedings. All that and the regular Wild Westerns primer from author Philip Nutman, and The Crew sends their love to their very busy partner Chris Alexander, editor-in-chief of Fangoria.Come join the lunatic's parade known as The Night Crew. On the Internet, unlike in space, everyone can hear you scream… Yes, those Wildmen from Washington, Thom Carnell and Sean “The Butcher” Smithson, are back with Episode 8 of their Night Crew Podcast. This time out the boys again sit down with Hollywood historian David Del Valle, among others.
Del Valle returns to talk about his visit to the Pricentennial, a St. Louis event held in honor of what would have been the great Vincent Price’s 100th birthday, which he hosted along with Victoria Price, the legendary thespian’s daughter.
Next the audience is introduced to their Melbourne, Australia contributor Lee Gambin. Lee is a regular contributor to Fangoria magazine and runs the Sissies and Sluts Theater group, a goofy, gory, and dangerously smart bunch of people running amok on the stage floors of Melbourne. Lee joins Thom and Sean in a dissection and comparison of two “rock musicals”:...

Author and historian David Del Valle makes a quick return to The Night Crew to talk about hosting the Pricentennial in St. Louis, with Victoria Price, in honor of her legendary father, Vincent. New contributor Lee Gambin of Fangoria Magazine climbs aboard for the first time as well, to stir up trouble with Thom and Sean and dissect two rock and roll musicals.Plus the usual melange of cinematic smack talk courtesy of author Philip Nutman with his Wild Wild Westerns primer, and Fangoria editor-in-chief Chris Alexander with his Movie-more-Than-a-Minute.Twitch's Andrew Mack is lost in action for the week, dealing with the aftermath of a chainsaw and an over-zealous phone co. worker, but he'll be back next week, rest assured. So without further adieu, please enter...

One filmmaker we've had our eyes on for quite some time around these parts is Rue Morgue President Rodrigo Gudino, and he dropped us a line today with an update on the worldwide tour he and three of his short films went on this Halloween season.
As Gudino tells us, "'The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow' (review here), 'The Demonology of Desire', and 'The Eyes of Edward James' had screenings in South Africa, Las Vegas, Georgia, Texas, and Boston. Along the way the films managed to create a stir and even snag a few awards.
Philip Nutman, programmer for Atlanta's Buried Alive! Film Fest writes 'The Demonology of Desire' (review here) 'was a big hit both with the audience and the jury, who had a meltdown over the film.' The end result was that the festival established a new awards category...
