George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, Furiosa, has not been performing very well in theaters since it went on release last Friday, and unless there's a drastic improvement in box office takings, this could spell doom for the legendary filmmaker's plans for a follow-up.
Furiosa took in a disappointing $35 million domestically for the four-day Memorial Day weekend, and amassed an only slightly better $40 million overseas for a running global total of $75 million.
The movie opens in Greece and Japan this week, before releasing in China on June 7.
It is worth noting that Fury Road was by no means a box office smash, either, but the movie's popularity and Academy Awards attention is believed to have factored into Warner Bros.' decision to greenlight Miller's prequel - and they may not be quite so quick to do the same if Furiosa doesn't get a high-octane boost of box...

The violent Wasteland of George Millers Mad Max franchise isn't exactly bustling with sympathetic characters, and even the titular protagonist is really more of a reluctant hero doing what he can to survive.
2015's Fury Road did introduce a slightly more selfless take on Max (Tom Hardy) along with a genuinely heroic figure in the form of Furiosa (Charlize Theron), and in addition to charting the origin of the Immortan Joe's Imperator (now played by Anya Taylor-Joy), Miller's prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, features the debut of the thoughtful, compassionate Praetorian Jack (Tom Burke).
Spoilers follow.
Furiosa forms a close (possibly romantic) bond with Jack when she joins his crew, but their relationship comes to a tragic end when Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and his men ambush the War Rig at the Bullet Farm.
While Jack and Furiosa do survive this attack and set out to find the Green Place,...

The Mad Max saga has shaped the modern world, for better or for worse, and one can hardly complain about the domination of the ultra-violent, hyper-aggressive, and sadistic system that guides the franchise. With Anya Taylor-Joyʼs Furiosa now on the way, there is nothing to salvage in the Wasteland, other than perhaps the lingering love and joy of the audience for the franchise.

Despite the long journey from Mel Gibsonʼs post-apocalyptic debut in 1979, the franchise still holds the same mystic fascination 45 years later as Fury Road traces its path back to spawn a prequel to the 2015 film.

Furiosa Spoilers: Find Out If Mad Max Appears, Whether The Final Battle Leads Into Fury Road, & More
George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is now in theaters, and we're breaking down the biggest moments from the epic revenge odyssey to reveal if and how the movie ultimately connects to Mad Max: Fury Road.
If you haven't been to see Furiosa yet, beware of major spoilers from this point on.
Playing out over a 15-year span, Furiosa follows the title character as she is taken from her home in the Green Place of Many Mothers and brought to Dementus' camp. Determined to discover the whereabouts of Furiosa's "place of abundance," the ruthless warlord tortures and kills her mother, setting the youngster on a path of inescapable vengeance.
Dementus keeps Furiosa captive, raising her as his protégé of sorts and renaming her "Little D." However, after striking a deal with rival warlord Immortan Joe to take over the running of Gas Town, Dementus agrees to leave Furiosa...

This weekend brings the action-packed odyssey of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" to theaters for all to witness and enjoy. While the movie acts as a prequel to incredible "Mad Max: Fury Road," it does differ from George Miller's fast-paced franchise revival from 2015 by spanning years, even decades, as we learn the origins of Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) and see how her quest for vengeance against the maniacal Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) becomes tied up in the legacy of Mad Max and the Wasteland's wars.
But where "Furiosa" matches "Fury Road" is in the unbelievable, adrenaline-fueled vehicular mayhem and brutal combat between both humans and customized cars, trucks, and pretty anything with wheels. However, the prequel does enhance one particular element of the "Mad Max" franchise, and it's a detail that almost made it into "Fury Road."

Are you ready to head back to the Wasteland? In 2015, George Miller brought Mad Max back to rev up his engines in a massive way. Mad Max: Fury Road thrilled audiences and critics alike. The new chapter did something unexpected for a colossal summer action flick; it earned six Academy Awards and nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. That’s pretty great for what started as an Ozploitation flick in 1979.
What’s truly special about this franchise is that it’s all from Miller, aside from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, co-directed by him and George Ogilvie. Even still, every film in the franchise has delivered. The Road Warrior and Fury Road are top picks for this viewer. Even still, every movie in the series resonates, and it’s easily one of my favorite franchises. Whether it’s Mel Gibson or Tom Hardy, this is a fantastic world that I...

George Miller's Fury Road prequel, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, revs into theaters this weekend, and while the movie is quite a bit more brutal than our previous trip to the Wasteland, it seems there was one scene that proved a little too gruesome for the legendary filmmaker.
Spoilers relating to the ending of the film follow.
During an interview with GQ, star Anya Taylor-Joy revealed that she convinced Miller to shoot a scene in which her character cuts out the tongue of her nemesis, the cruel warlord Demenetus (Chris Hemsworth), who was responsible for the death of her mother - and plenty more besides.
However, the gory moment didn't make the theatrical cut of the film.
“It was really important to me that the confrontation between Furiosa and Dementus be a physical one, and that it was hard-won,” said the actress. “It needed it; she needed it. I...

Deadline’s Pete Hammond said Miller had “perhaps given birth to the greatest Max yet, a wheels-up, rock-and-rolling epic.” Pete was one of many to praise the cast, production design and visuals. “Shout-out to action designer Guy Norris and his team, who show the need for a stunts Oscar.” You can check out his review here.
The movie currently has an 87% rating from 45 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Below are a spread we’ve collated from across the globe.
Reviewing for The Guardian, Peter Bradshaw gave the movie four stars, and he was one of many to heap praise on leads Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. He called Taylor-Joy an “overwhelmingly convincing action hero” who “sells this sequel.”

George Miller keeps a photo on his phone. Taken somewhere in the ’70s, it’s a picture of Craig Hemsworth — back when the father of Chris Hemsworth hung out with the same gang of motorbike riders that appeared in the original “Mad Max.” He even knew Wonder Dog, that film’s cycle-riding canine. And of course, the younger Hemsworth is a dead ringer for his dad.
“[Chris] dug deep,” Miller told IndieWire of his “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” star. “He is highly considered on anything and everything, multi-dimensional. And he has wisdom. He is just 40. Now, at that age, if I only had half his understanding of the world at large, his place in it, the connection to family and the way he wants to conduct his life!”
We’re in Cannes and it’s the day before the festival’s out-of-competition world premiere of “Furiosa,” the fifth installment of his 45-year-old franchise.

"Remember me?"
Warner Bros. has released the first clips from George Miller's Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, highlighting what will likely be a couple of key sequences from the upcoming Fury Road prequel.
In the first clip, we see Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) take aim at Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), only to come to the realization that the wily warlord also has her in his sights. One rocket launcher blast later, and everyone appear to be down for the count.
The second sneak peek finds Dementus at the mercy of Furiosa. After commending her on her survival skills, the villain makes a grab for her boot knife and gets a gun-barrel in the face for his efforts.
Full reviews are still under embargo, but the social media responses have been highly positive so far. More press screenings take place next Friday, so be sure to check back for our reaction/review.

It is often an agreement between veteran directors that the usage of CGI should be kept to a minimum when creating cinematic movies. Director George Miller who directed both Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and the 1982 film Mad Max 2 or The Road Warrior, seems to agree with these statements.
Relying mostly on stunt people and real explosions for his movies, Miller is known for the iconic Mad Max franchise. In an interview, the director revealed that if the 1980s had the technology of today, his stuntmen and women would have been much safer.

It is no secret that veteran director George Miller and veteran actor Mel Gibson started with humble beginnings during the production of Mad Max. Originally released in 1979, the film received critical success and soon, a sequel was announced.

“Furiosa,” George Miller’s prequel to his Oscar-winning “Mad Max: Fury Road,” will have its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
Anya Taylor-Joy stars as the titular warrior in the epic saga that spans 15 years and charts the title character’s origin story. A young Furiosa is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth. As they trek across the Wasteland, the gang come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war over dominance, Furiosa faces many trials to find her way home. Oh yeah, and she’s definitely out to kill those who murdered her family.

Turns out, Anya Taylor-Joy has a shaved head in “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel “Furiosa.”
The “Queen’s Gambit” star recently told Empire magazine that director George Miller told her to not shave her head for the role; however, in the new trailer, a buzzed cut is boasted by the star, mirroring Charlize Theron’s look as Furiosa for “Fury Road.” Taylor-Joy is almost certainly sporting a wig in the film; we sure haven’t seen her growing back long locks in the time since.
“I feel very lucky that, from the second I read the script, I just knew this person. I felt so fiercely protective over Furiosa, and fiercely protective of her interests,” Taylor-Joy said of taking over the character from Theron. She also told IndieWire that “Furiosa” was the “dirtiest and the bloodiest” she’s ever been onscreen.

The first official trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga confirms two important details. One, Anya Taylor-Joy looks totally badass as the titular character. And two, the long wait between Mad Max films has been worth it.
The two-and-a-half minute trailer’s loaded with gritty action, and Oscar-winning filmmaker George Miller’s epic action thriller captures its predecessor’s vibe.
In addition to Emmy nominee Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit), the Fury Road prequel stars Chris Hemsworth, Alyla Browne, and Tom Burke. Miller co-wrote the screenplay with Mad Max: Fury Road‘s Nico Lathouris.
Miller reunites with production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, costume designer Jenny Beavan, and makeup designer Lesley Vanderwalt for Furiosa. If you don't know him by name, you almost certainly know Vernon Wells by his face if you're a fan of '80s movies. He was Bennett, the Aussie villain with the chainmail tank top and Freddie Mercury mustache in "Commando," and he scared the pants off kids as Mr. Igoe, the sinister hitman with an interchangeable hand in "Innerspace." Or you may remember him as Lord General, the crazed leader of a mutant biker gang that crashes the party in "Weird Science."
Wells' career as one of Hollywood's go-to bad guys at the time was made possible by his ferocious performance as Wez, the psychotic henchman in "The Road Warrior," George Miller's sequel to his low-budget smash, "Mad Max." This time around, a bigger budget enabled the director to go bigger, faster, wilder, and weirder than his original vision. This time, our hero Max Rocktansky is battling a...

No filmmaker crafts a car chase as deftly as George Miller does and the "Mad Max" films prove it. One of his crowning achievements is the climax of "Mad Max 2" or "The Road Warrior" (its title in the U.S. thanks to the first "Mad Max" being an initial flop there).
During the film, Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) stumbles on some settlers in the Wasteland. They're besieged by the forces of Lord Humungus (Kjell Nilsson), who want the town's gasoline supply. This story culminates with Max driving a decoy tanker truck to lead the raiders away from settlers escaping with the real gasoline.
Lord Humungus' men are in smaller vehicles and their chase of the tanker looks like a wolf pack on the trail of a buffalo. The smaller vehicles get swatted away by the truck, causing spectacular crashes. During the "Mad Max 2" shoot, the danger of these crashes wasn't staged either,...

Idris Elba wasn’t longing for any Dijinn prep work ahead of “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”
George Miller’s first film since 2015’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” is based on the 1994 short story “The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye” by A.S. Byatt. Elba portrays a Dijinn who offers a scholar (Tilda Swinton) three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Their conversation, unfolding in a hotel room in Istanbul, leads to decades-spanning, globe-trotting consequences neither expected. The film premiered at Cannes and opens in theaters August 26.
Director Miller penned the script along with daughter Augusta Gore, and that proved to be enough source material for Elba without needing the full history of the tale.
“I actually didn’t read the novella — I didn’t want to be tainted or influenced by it,” Elba explained to Entertainment Weekly. “Any literature about djinn was off the table for me. I didn...

Dreaming of genie takes on a whole new meaning in George Miller’s twisted sprawling fantasy “Three Thousand Years of Longing.”
The film debuts at 2022 Cannes and Tilda Swinton stars as a scholar who encounters a Djinn (Idris Elba), who offers her three wishes in exchange for his freedom. Their conversation, unfolding in a hotel room in Istanbul, leads to decades-spanning consequences neither expected. “Three Thousand Years of Longing” premieres in theaters August 31. Check out the first footage below.
The teaser shows Elba’s character being horrifically sucked back into an urn, while Swinton as academic Dr. Alithea Binnie rides a train wearing a face mask. A succession of lush images is juxtaposed with a leering god-like figure. The trio of wishes are informed by Elba, recalling his origin story as a Dijinn, leading to Swinton’s Binnie making a shocking decision.

Exclusive: George Miller is distracted. Five minutes into our meeting, he begs forgiveness to take a quick call. And then, on an iPad tilted in his direction, the filmmaker watches as a camera feed from the Australian outback offers him a live view of a pre-shoot for his next feature, Furiosa. His supervising stunt coordinator and second unit director, Guy Norris, whose work with Miller stretches back to 1981’s Mad Max sequel The Road Warrior, is already shooting sequences for the new film.
Set 15 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, the film will tell the backstory of Charlize Theron’s enigmatic Furiosa, this time played by Anya Taylor-Joy. “Here I am doing an interview with you halfway across the world, and I’m able to look at this footage being shot far west from where I am and we’re discussing it as we go through the process,...

This article contains The Suicide Squad spoilers. We have a spoiler free review here.
The Suicide Squad is just about wall-to-wall action. Yes, there are the occasional (relatively) quiet moments, but for the most part, this is a movie that has a lot of conflicts to resolve, whether with bullets, superpowers, or in the case of the pivotal fight scene in the movie, good ol’ fashioned muscles and fists. When John Cena’s Peacemaker and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag throw down at the end of the movie, it makes for one of the most brutal fight scenes in superhero movie history, a no-holds-barred, bone crunching affair that only one antihero can walk away from in the end.
“We had a great time with it,” Kinnaman says of putting The Suicide Squad‘s most dramatic fight scene together. “It becomes this little capsule project on a movie when you go...

New South Wales state Premier Gladys Berejiklian has announced George Miller’s upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel film “Furiosa” will become the biggest movie ever made in Australia. The Warner Bros.-backed action tentpole is set to begin filming in New South Wales in 2022. According to Berejiklian, “Furiosa” will pump at least $350M Aud into the local economy and create 850 new jobs. Berejiklian made the announcement at a press conference with director Miller and cast member Chris Hemsworth in attendance.
“[Working on ‘Furiosa’] is the biggest pinch-myself moment, because I’ve grown up watching it [‘Mad Max’] and it’s so iconic,” Hemsworth told press about joining the franchise. “It is a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.”

“Furiosa,â€. the Anya Taylor-Joy-starring prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Roadâ€. is to receive financial incentives from federal and state governments, ensuring that production will take place in Australia. The George Miller-directed picture will shoot from June.
“The support of the Federal and New South Wales Governments were pivotal. They made it possible for the film to be greenlit, shot in Australia and for the production to be based in our home state,â€. Miller said in a statement on Monday.
“This is great news for New South Wales,â€. said state premier Glady Berejiklian in the same statement “It is expected to become the biggest film ever to be made in Australia.â€.
Despite a currency that is strengthening against the U.S. dollar, Australia is already enjoying a post-covid film and TV production boom, helped by aggressive government financing schemes, a disease that is largely in abeyance.

Exclusive: More than two years after it was announced and after a couple of delays, George Miller’s anticipated fantasy-romance-drama Three Thousand Years Of Longing is now underway in Australia, we can reveal.

Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba are starring in Miller’s latest, whose plot details are being kept under wraps. The visionary filmmaker previously described the project to us as an “anti-Mad Max” with plenty of interiors and dialogue but also punctuated with action scenes.
The estimated $60M budget is an indication that this is far from your average two-hander, however. Producer Doug Mitchell, Miller’s long-time producing partner, described the Sydney sets to us today...

The long-rumoured Mad Max spin-off is in the works at Warner Bros, with Chris Hemsworth, Anya Taylor-Joy and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II heading the cast.
George Miller will direct and co-write Furiosa with Nico Lathouris, an origin story based on the character played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, according to Deadline.
Taylor-Joy, whose credits include Emma, Split and Glass, will play the lead in the movie which tracks the genesis of the fierce warrior Furiosa before she teamed up with Tom Hardy’s Max Rockatansky in Fury Road.
Deadline did not specify the roles to be played by Hemsworth, who is set to star in WB’s Thor: Love & Thunder, or Abdul-Mateen II, who starred as super villain Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman.
Currently the latter is filming the fourth installment in The Matrix series, directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.

George Miller told Deadline about Furiosa having a deep backstory in the Mad Max universe, and now we’ll finally get to see it: Warner Bros. is in advanced development with Furiosa, a spinoff feature of Miller’s multi-Oscar winning blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road about the renegade character (played in that film by Oscar winner Charlize Theron) who was a notable force in Max’s survival in the desert.
The standalone movie will reveal the origins of Furiosa and be played by Glass actress Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role. Anya Taylor-Joy is set to play Furiosa, the character originated by Charlize Theron in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” in a standalone action film “Furiosa” that will also star Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Warner Bros. announced Tuesday.
George Miller will return to the director’s chair for the film that will track Furiosa’s origins before she teamed up with Mad Max in “Fury Road.”
Miller will also co-write and produce, and his “Fury Road” team at his Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell production house will also return for “Furiosa.”
It’s unclear what role both Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II will play, but “Furiosa” is still set in the dystopian, desert wasteland Miller created as far back as the original “Mad Max” trilogy with Mel Gibson. Thirty-three seasons into MTV’s “The Challenge,” the reality competition series has spawned a band of traveling producers and engineers who fly around the world to create one-of-a-kind games. This includes placing cameras, smoke elements and a puzzle inside a plane that was suspended more than 30 feet above water.
Executive producer Justin Booth joined “The Challenge” in 2003 and wanted to take it on “an international adventure,” he says. To do so, he and his colleagues started out by finding local crew in whatever country they were filming in that season. But some members kept getting invited back, despite the need to fly them to the new location.
“A lot of the things that we endeavor to do are never done before,” says Booth, “and that can be overwhelming for people. So I need strong personalities who don’t get flustered and have a work ethic and unflappable attitude.”

Editor’s note: The following is an edited excerpt from “Miller and Max: George Miller and the Making of a Film Legend” by Luke Buckmaster.
The George Miller of the 1970s would never have believed he would one day be spearheading a production with a budget estimated at a staggering $150 million. Miller had made the first three movies when he was in his thirties. At sixty-seven, when “Fury Road” commenced principal photography, those days were far back in the past. Shooting the original film in Melbourne felt like a lifetime ago.
For his first “Mad Max” movie in close to three decades, Miller wanted to be on the frontline at all times. But he soon realized that was impossible given the scale of production: a 138-day shoot with complicated stunts occurring on a near-daily basis. State-of-the-art technology made the job easier — or at least improved communication. High-definition video reception was broadcast in multiple locations,...

Guy Norris on-set with the stunt double for Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).
Aussie stunts legend Guy Norris (The Lord of the Rings, the upcoming Ghost in the Shell) got involved in Suicide Squad, DC's supervillain blockbuster starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie, through a connection to the film's producer Charles Roven (Warcraft, The Dark Knight).
"Chuck Roven and I had worked together on three projects in the last 30 years and we were always trying to look to work together," Norris told If. "After shooting Mad Max: Fury Road, Chuck had Suicide Squad in his hands and asked me to come and be involved.".
The production became a family affair when Norris, the film's action-unit director and stunt coordinator, enlisted his son Harrison, who "has literally grown up on sets", said Norris.
"He was involved in Fury Road as a stunt performer and became involved on Suicide Squad as the action pre-visualisation artist.

In an environment where Hollywood can make literally anything happen, and look real, thanks to digital effects, Mad Max: Fury Road became something of an outlier when it made a commitment to doing many of their effects practically. There is a downside to actually make cars crash into each other however. It.s that there are actual people in those cars. Doug Mitchell is a longtime collaborator with Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller. As a producer on Fury Road, Mitchell was closely involved in many aspects of production, including all of those great practical effects. He tells The Hollywood Reporter that right from the start he realized the seriousness of their plan. He was worried about the stunt man in the film.s very first stunt. The one that stood out for me was the very first one, in which Guy Norris, the additional unit director and stunt...

Mad Max: Fury Road Action Unit Director/Stunt Coordinator Guy Norris.
Fury Road's action unit director and stunt coordinator Guy Norris is riding high.
His team, tallying over 150 performers, took out the SAG Stunt Awards in Los Angeles yesterday, a result which should have suprised precisely no-one.
Norris is currently in Wellington, prepping Paramount/Dreamworks' Ghost in the Shell, which begins filming in less than two weeks.
Norris was told of his win by his son, who saw it on social media. The award is a nice capper to a career that began with Mad Max 2 in 1981.
Norris was 21 at the time, and already a stunt veteran.
"I started doing stunt work in Evel Knievel-like live shows when I was 18", he said.
"I did that with an older stuntman called Frank Lennon. He was one of the last stuntmen going around doing thrill shows. You'd crash cars, you'd run around on fire,...

Few films in recent memory are quite as visually explosive as Mad Max: Fury Road, which makes any of the men and women behind its images an immediate point of interest. But for all the talent that’s on the screen, and for all the effort it must have taken to make that come through, cinematographer John Seale will tell you the process wasn’t always conducive to innovation — if only because George Miller and his team of confidantes had been waiting to go for so long.
This, I think, is all the more reason to sit down with the director of photography, whose enthusiasm for the project was so strong that it forced him out of retirement. Fury Road is being celebrated at Poland’s Camerimage International Film Festival — several months after its U.S. release, but not enough time for our curiosity about the picture to die down.

While "Mad Max: Fury Road" rightfully deserves the praise it has received for its hair-raising practical effects, things are a lot safer now than they were a few decades ago when George Miller was laying out the first couple of movies in his blockbuster series. And not much further evidence is needed than this pretty wild, old school featurette for "The Road Warrior." Wired has dug up this particular nugget, and for a movie that was at the time the most expensive Australian movie ever made, clearly the PR team didn't sugarcoat anything, and even smirked at some of the things that would never pass union guidelines today. Fast forward to the 2:25 mark to see stuntman Guy Norris fly through the air and break his goddamn femur. And as the voiceover wryly notes, had things gone according to plan, Norris would've landed safely on a pile of cardboard. But...

Mad Max: Fury Road put the fast in the furious, even more so than Furious 7. Though Pitch Perfect 2 pulled ahead of the film at the box office, and presumably so will Disney.s Tomorrowland this coming weekend, Fury Road was a helluva good time at the theaters, due largely in part to its crazy stunts, like the final car chase. If you want to get the inside scoop on how stunt coordinator Guy Norris pulled off this epic, death-defying sequence, get the details from the man himself. Norris recently spoke with Rolling Stone magazine for a feature on the large-scale stunts performed in the new Mad Max. When it comes to the final blowout, there.s a lot going on. [Spoiler Warning for anyone who hasn.t seen the film yet.] There were explosions, hand-to-hand combats and car flips, but Norris said the relationship and interaction between Furiosa and Max ...

If filmmaking is still considered a young man’s game, apparently no one has told prolific Australian director George Miller. At age 70, he’s about to unleash quite possibly the craziest practical action masterpiece you’ll see in Mad Max: Fury Road.
Daily Dead recently had the distinct pleasure of attending a special screening for the latest chapter in the Max Rockatansky saga that also featured a Q&A afterwards with Miller and our moderator for the evening, Edgar Wright. The duo chatted about the filmmaking business, the risks and rewards of doing practical stunts, Miller’s return to live action filmmaking for Fury Road and so much more. Here are some of the highlights from the pair’s highly engaging chat.
Miller on whether or not he had always envisioned Mad Max as a franchise: "I didn’t; I thought I was done on the first one, but then the sequel came around.

John Seale was retired. Then George Miller dangled a "Mad Max" movie in front of his face and, well, how can an Aussie say no? The 40-year veteran jumped right into the maelstrom Miller and his team were conjuring in the desert of west Africa and, along with killer second unit teams, captured one of the most innervating experiences of the year in "Mad Max: Fury Road." Oh, and he turned 70 years old while doing all of this. Seale won an Oscar for "The English Patient," the first of a three-film collaboration with the late Anthony Minghella. He also partnered up with Peter Weir on a trio of projects ("Witness," "The Mosquito Coast" and "Dead Poets Society") and he's worked with many great filmmakers besides, from Sydney Pollack to Ron Howard, Rob Reiner to Wolfgang Petersen. In addition to the win, he has three more Oscar nominations to his credit and I must say,...
