It is one of the year's best films so far, but Paul Greengrass' "Captain Phillips" has been the subject of more than a few editorials lately citing the film's "inaccuracies".
Whilst some dramatic license is par for the course of these films, the facts are fairly accurate according to Phillips' account. The trouble is, Phillips' fellow crew members who were onboard the Maersk Alabama have disagreed with the events in the movie.
Adding to the complications is that said crew is currently engaged in a multi-million dollar lawsuit with the Maersk Line, which brings their motivations for disputing the film's content into question.
Now, Greengrass himself has taken to Reddit for an Ama and posted a lengthy answer regarding the film's accuracy when asked about it by a user on the system:
"I saw those stories too, based upon an 'anonymous crew member'. Here are the facts. Shortly after...

Maersk donated the Alexander, which is the sister ship to the Alabama, so every day we were on that ship for twelve, fourteen, sixteen hours out on the Mediterranean, so there were none of the comforts of the usual Hollywood movie. If...
