ControversyThe Karni Sena had been demanding a ban on the period film on the grounds that it "distorts" historical facts and projects queen Padmini in poor light. Tnm StaffThe Shri Rajput Karni Sena on Friday announced it has decided to take back its protest against the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, stating the movie glorifies the valour of the Rajputs. Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena's Mumbai leader Yogendra Singh Katar said that on the directions of organisation's national President Sukhdev Singh Gogamadi, a few members watched the movie in Mumbai on Friday, and found that that the movie glorifies the valour and sacrifice of Rajput and every Rajput will be feeling proud after watching the film. There is no such objectionable scene between Delhi Sultanate ruler Alauddin Khilji and Queen Padmini of Mewar which hurts the sentiments of Rajputs, he said in a letter, declaring that the Karni Sena takes back their protest and will help the administration to release the film in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat as well as across all cinema houses in India. The Karni Sena had been demanding a ban on the period film on the grounds that it "distorts" historical facts and projects queen Padmini in poor light. Last month, Supreme Court also lifted the ban on the movie imposed by several states and directed them to ensure its release. The film was released in theatres across India on January 25 amidst tight security and protest from various groups, including Karni Sena. However, some cinema hall owners decided not to screen the film in the wake of protests being carried allegedly by Karni Sena members in Gujarat and Haryana. Deepika Padukone plays the title role in this flick with Shahid Kapoor, Ranvir Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka in important roles. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has composed tunes for the soundtrack and the Bgm has been scored by Sanchit Balhara. EntertainmentEven if the film had released in the states where it has run into controversy, the figure would have been nowhere close.Digital NativeThe record created by Baahubali: The Conclusion is intact! The film had netted Rs. 125 crores on day one of its release while its Hindi version had netted Rs. 41 crores. So, there were huge expectations that the magnum opus Padmaavat would break the record. Well, to all those waiting eagerly to know about the box office collections of the Deepika Padukone starrer Padmaavat, it was around Rs. 18 – 19 crores. All the negative publicity and controversies surrounding the film did not work towards its favour. The film’s release was stalled in some states like Rajasthan. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana due to widespread protests and to maintain the law and order situation. While some maintain that the ban did affect its collections at the box office, others point out that even if the ban was lifted, Padmaavat would have managed to get around Rs. 25 crores, which is nowhere near Baahubali 2’s collections. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat went on the floors under the title Padmavati but had to be renamed Padmaavat. During the shooting, protests erupted in parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan and other northern states with the Rajput Karni Sena claiming that the film contained factual inaccuracies and that it depicted the Rajput community in poor light. Deepika Padukone plays the title role in this flick with Shahid Kapoor, Ranvir Singh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka in important roles. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial has been constantly targeted by politicians and Shri Rajput Karni Sena but after all the brouhaha, Padmaavat managed to get the green signal from the Supreme court. This month seems to be a month of heavenly departures in Bollywood. First, it was the ever green Rajesh Khanna, and now its director-screenplay writer B.R. Ishara, who passed today morning, as he was suffering from tuberculosis and was undergoing treatment at Criti Care Hospital, Mumbai. Readers may recall that he had suffered a major paralytic attack during a Directors' Association meeting last year.
The late Ishara launched Parveen Babi and cricketer Salim Durrani in his film Charitra.
