Here's a glimpse at some interesting, unusual and/or noteworthy projects that were recently added to IMDbPro's database of development titles (with a bit of editorial commentary added to the mix).
The Deep Blue Sea-- Rachel Weisz is reportedly in talks to work with British auteur Terence Davies in his feature adaptation of Terence Rattigan's pre-Mad Men-era play about a suicidal woman who leaves her established husband for a drunk, ex-fighter pilot. Set up with funding from the recently-axed UK Film Council, this one may need a lot more signatures if it's ever going to take flight.
Old St. Louis-- As the buzz begins to build for his boxing biopic The Fighter, writer-director David O. Russell is already prepping his next bout. With Vince Vaughn and Universal Pictures in his corner, the team is developing this comedy-drama about a traveling salesman (Vaughn) who hits the road in search of his estranged daughter. They're eyeing Hit-Girl, Chloe Moretz, to play his kid and Scarlett Johansson for the role of his flirty secretary.
Casa de mi padre-- Will Ferrell in a Spanish language film? Es de verdad? His production company, Gary Sanchez Prods., says, Si. A co-production with Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet's Nala Films, the film is supposed to begin filming in September.
Sausage Party-- From Superbad braintrusts Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Jonah Hill, this is a super-secret CGI project that's so super secret we don't know what it's about (and sorta wonder if it's even for real). Kung Fu Panda director Mark Osborne will helm.
Imogene-- Funny girl Kristin Wiig stars in this comedy written by Michelle Morgan. No plot details yet, but it's grabbed the attention of American Splendor's Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini, who're considering it as their follow-up to their current festival fave The Extra Man and HBO's Cinema Verite.

I covered the world of men writing women back in June, and it's already time to revisit the pen. At the end of July, Variety posted a special collection of articles outlining the Top Ten Screenwriters to keep an eye out for. Unlike most lists, which select only a sliver of female talent (much like the industry as a whole), this ten plays the half and half game. The women who reign supreme: Emma Forrest, Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, Mindy Kaling (pictured above with Brenda Withers), Liz Meriwether, and Michelle Morgan.
Six women in a list of twelve screenwriters? (There's a writing duo on each side.) Can't complain about the numbers. There are writers from Harvard and Dartmouth, some who started off as actresses, and one who even made the ginormous leap from reception desks to feature films. They each have a number of projects they're working on, which...

And the film is being developed as a potential flick for Miley Cyrus!
The script is being written by Michelle Morgan.
The moves! The music! The movie! This great relic of the 80s revolves around two friends who love dancing, boys, and the hit show "Dance TV."
Take a look at the original trailer, and see if you can imagine Miley in one of the characters. The Helen Hunt character perhaps?...

I've never seen the 1985 movie Girls Just Want To Have Fun, but now that I've bothered looking it up, it looks like I have to-- Helen Hunt, Sarah Jessica Parker and Shannen Doherty in starring roles, and a rumored cameo by Robert Downey Jr.! Why would you remake a movie that serendipitously starred two future Oscar nominees and one fashion icon-to-be? Beats me, but Fox is trying it anyway, scheduling a remake of the very 80s movie with Michelle Morgan hired to rewrite the script. Variety says they'll be hanging on to the same plot about teenage girls who love to dance and want to be on the show Dance TV. On paper it very closely resembles the plot of Hairspray, minus the 60s setting and the fat acceptance and racial tension. I'm guessing that's mostly a coincidence, though, if only to not assume that John Waters somehow ripped this...
