Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande star in director Jon M Chu’s new musical adaptation. Take a look at the new Wicked trailer.
Jon M. Chu’s Wicked is one of this year’s most awaited film musicals. Starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Chu’s film is adapted from the hugely popular, and rather good, stage musical. Recently, Chu also confirmed that the film would use live vocals, which isn’t surprising as both Grande and Erivo have pretty good pipes for this sort of thing.
The story proved too big for a single film, so Chu and writer Winnie Holtzman have divided it into two parts. We assume the first part will adapt the musical’s first act while Wicked Part Two will do justice to the second act, but don’t quote us on that.
A new trailer has just landed online as well, albeit not on a broomstick.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for American Idol.] It was Disney Night on American Idol. The most magical round of the competition saw the Top 5 head to Orlando for some fun with their families at the Walt Disney World parks. Of course, there was also important work to be done as they prepared to take the stage and perform two songs from the iconic songbook. For Mother’s Day, the hopefuls sat with their moms and had some truly heartwarming interactions. Helping them bring their best was their country superstar mentor Kane Brown. Mult-hyphenate entertainer Jenifer Lewis added to the theme of the evening with “Dig A Little Deeper” from The Princess & The Frog, accompanied by Grammy winner Terence Blanchard on the trumpet. Princess Elsa, Idina Menzel also stopped by to accept a plaque for the song “Let It Go” which was recently certified Diamond by the RIAA. Exclusive: On April 18th of this year, at a parole board hearing in New Hampshire, convicted murderer James Parker was granted parole for his role in the brutal 2001 stabbing murders of Half and Suzanne Zantop, a pair of married Dartmouth professors. After acquiring rights to Judgment Ridge, a work of nonfiction detailing the chilly story of those murders, producers Randy and Steven Toll have enlisted Matthew Gentile (American Murderer) to direct a feature adaptation from his own script.
Written by Dick Lehr and Mitchell Zuckoff, Judgment Ridge evokes clear memories of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, as it delves deeply into the inexplicable behavior that led to these ruthless murders. It was at age 16 that Parker conspired with his best friend to commit the murders of the Zantrops. He and co-conspirator Robert Tulloch came to commit the crime after plotting to put together the $10,000 they needed to move to...

Idina Menzel is heading on the road this summer for her Take Me Or Leave Me concert tour and she’s promising a “vintage set.”
The Tony Award-winning singer and actress named the tour after her smash hit song from the 1996 Broadway musical Rent.
“Maureen was always uninhibited and extremely comfortable in who she was, maybe to the fault [laughs],” Idina told Billboard. “I’ve always loved that song and I miss that character, but I would say I’m naming the tour this from a different perspective. Obviously, many, many years later, it’s about who I am in this point in my life. I haven’t seen my fans in a long time, and I want to show them how I’ve changed, and how I haven’t. I want to show them my experiences and hopefully, they’ll love me no matter what.”

We just learned so much about Disney’s classic movie Frozen!
Believe it or not, the original blockbuster premiered in theaters more than 10 years ago. In honor of the special anniversary, Vanity Fair got the film’s stars including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff together to look back on the start of the successful franchise.
The feature revealed a lot about how the final movie we know and love differed from the original that Disney set out to create. It featured different actresses reading for Elsa and Anna (the characters played by Idina and Kristen) and a very different plot.
We also learned that Frozen was not the first Disney movie either Idina or Kristen auditioned for. Interestingly, they were both in the running for the same part in another hit from the House of Mouse.

The Broadway musical Wicked will be getting its cinematic adaptation this year. The musical has been divided into two parts, with Part One set to be released on November 27, 2024. It stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in the lead roles, playing Galinda Upland and Elphaba Thropp respectively. The story acts as a prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
Director Jon M. Chu mentioned that the actresses got along really well on set. He said that he chose to not depend on excessive CGI and wanted actual sets. Most times, the Oscars broadcast goes off without a hitch. But other times, things happen that leave people talking about it for years — or even decades — to come. While surprises have been happening since before the Oscars were even broadcast — much less before the boom of social media — The Hollywood Reporter takes a look at the biggest viral moments from the last 10 years. Hollywood won’t forget about the streaker or Jennifer Lawrence tripping up the stairs, but those moments happened before 2014.

Idina Menzel is commemorating the ten-year anniversary of the viral John Travolta at the Oscars.
Travolta had the honor of presenting Menzel onto the stage but had a hard time reading the teleprompter and instead introduced Adele Dazeem to the stage.
Menzel took to TikTok to celebrate the birth of Dazeem after ten years since the Academy Awards blunder.
“Hey, Adele Dazeem, it’s Idina Menzel. I just want to say happy birthday,” the Broadway star said in the video. “I’m sending you so much love and positive energy, I hope you have the best, best day.”
Menzel then sang “Happy Birthday” to honor Dazeem and signed off, saying, “Have a great one. Lots of love. Bye!”

We just learned so much about Disney’s classic movie Frozen!
Believe it or not, the original blockbuster premiered in theaters 10 years ago. In honor of the special anniversary, Vanity Fair got stars including Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff together to look back on the start of the successful franchise.
In the process, we learned a lot about how the final movie we know and love differed from the original plot.

Super Bowl Sunday always has a little something for everyone, but this year's big game in Las Vegas went above and beyond in the razzle-dazzle department.
We were, of course, prepared for a celebrity-crammed spectacle due to the luxury booth presence of Travis Kelce's substantially famous girlfriend, but this gridiron rematch between last year's combatants, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, brought out more than just arguably the most famous pop star on the planet. The only pop star in that aforementioned argument, Beyoncé, was there with her hip-hop god husband Jay-Z! The world's greatest basketball player, LeBron James, flew in from Los Angeles for the contest! And Paul freakin' Rudd, sporting a bushy freakin' mustache that would've driven Avery Schreiber into a jealous rage, prowled the sidelines pre-game in support of his hometown Chiefs!
But if we're talking true, earth-shaking, knock-you-on-your-keister fame, let there be...

Adam Sandler has set a new comedy special at Netflix — this time directed by Josh Safdie.
The project continues Sandler’s string of collaborations with Safie, who co-directed him in 2019’s “Uncut Gems” alongside his brother Benny Safdie. Sandler also starred in the brothers’ 2020 short film “Goldman v. Silverman” and is set to lead an upcoming feature set in the world of sports memorabilia to be directed by Josh and produced by Benny, though the latter told Variety in January that the film was “on pause.”
Currently untitled, the special will be Sandler’s second at Netflix, following up on his 2018 set “100% Fresh” — which went on to receive a 90% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Sandler has worked on numerous projects for Netflix: In 2023, he led the voice cast of the streamer’s animated musical comedy film “Leo” and starred opposite Idina Menzel in “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah,...

By 2013, Idina Menzel had long established herself as a formidable Broadway star, having starred in the original productions of Rent and Wicked. She’d had some small-screen success with a recurring role on Glee, and she’d gotten some big-screen experience with the Rent film and Enchanted. But none of those vehicles propelled her career into the stratosphere like voicing the character of Elsa in the animated film Frozen. The Frozen song Let It Go became her signature song — not to mention a Top 5 pop hit. Of course, Menzel also returned to voice Elsa in Frozen II and is expected to return for the two upcoming Frozen sequels, as well. We’ve spoken to Menzel many times over the years, and she told us she’s extremely thankful to Disney for giving her the opportunity to do Frozen. Disney boss Bob Iger has confirmed that the studio has plans for Frozen 4, even though Frozen 3 isn’t even out yet.
Disney CEO Bob Iger stopped by Good Morning America to talk about Disney’s latest theme park land, World Of Frozen, but the attention has shifted on something else Iger announced during the popular morning show.
“Well, I’ll give you a little surprise there, Michael. Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works too,” Iger told Good Morning America co-anchors Robin Givens and Michael Strahan, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The words “might be” feel pretty crucial here. Disney hasn’t officially greenlit a fourth instalment of the animated franchise as of yet and since Frozen 3 has barely begun production, we’re guessing there’s perhaps only a basic idea for a fourth film at this point.

Disney CEO Bob Iger gave Frozen fans a strong hint that two sequels of the studio’s animated juggernaut may be in development.
“Well, I’ll give you a little surprise there, Michael. Frozen 3 is in the works and there might be a Frozen 4 in the works too,” Iger told Good Morning America co-anchors Robin Givens and Michael Strahan from Hong Kong Disneyland, where the studio boss is on hand to open a new World of Frozen themed land on Nov. 20.
Disney looks to be doubling down on Elsa and Anna’s story in Arendelle and the world of Frozen. Frozen II in 2019 earned $1.4 billion in global box office, with the 2013 first installment bringing in $1.2 billion. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel led the cast.
Iger didn’t say much about sequel plans for the Oscar-winning Frozen franchise, though he did add: “But Jenn Lee, who created Frozen — the original Frozen...

Kristin, who originated the role of Glinda in Wicked on Broadway, is having a very different reaction. In fact, she’s got an idea for a collaboration.

They also touch on new beginnings, with spring just on the horizon.
So, if you're in need of a cozy playlist, here are 15 songs that touch on both the highs and lows of the winter season.
