With their new horror thriller Guess Who, Tubi may finally have come up with a fairly original idea for one of their films. As far as I can tell, it’s the first film to use mummering as a major plot point. No, not mummies, mummering. What is mummering? Mummering is a Christmas-time house-visiting tradition practised in Newfoundland and Labrador, Ireland, and the City of Philadelphia. It adds a touch of Halloween to the season as people would dress in disguise and go door to door. If they were invited in, they’d give some kind of performance while their hosts tried to guess who they were.
Michael and Kaitlyn, his fiancée, are driving out to meet his family when they have to stop for gas.

I have an opinion: "Slasher" is better than "American Horror Story."
Maybe that's not so controversial to say in 2023, when the popular horror anthology series created by Ryan Murphy hasn't had a good season in almost five years, and hasn't had a great one in over 10. "AHS" premiered in 2011, the same year that the sci-fi/technology-run-amok anthology series "Black Mirror" premiered. Curiously, though "Black Mirror" was just as popular, and was covered as furiously as "AHS" was in its prime, its influence on subsequent sci-fi visions seems to have jumped mediums to film. One can imagine pressing play on a new season of "Black Mirror" and watching films like "Ex-Machina," "The Circle," and "Vivarium," were a few minutes shaved off each.
"AHS," however, spawned a veritable renaissance in horror anthology series, from HBO's "Room 104," to Hulu's "Castle Rock," to Syfy's "Channel Zero." Before "AHS," you'd have to...

Berlin, April 23 (Ians) Mainz came from behind through second-half goals from Ludovic Ajorque, Leandro Barreiro and Aaron Martin within 14 minutes to upset leaders Bayern Munich 3-1, while Borussia Dortmund took the lead in the Bundesliga table following a 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday night.
The Bavarians took the reins from the get-go and thought they had broken the deadlock, but Sadio Mane’s goal was ruled offside with 15 minutes gone.
Bayern dominated possession and eventually opened the scoring at the half-hour mark when Joao Cancelo’s whipped cross into the box allowed Mane to head home from close range.
The German giants should have extended their lead, but neither Jamal Musiala nor Cancelo was able to finish off presentable opportunities.

We're only a day away from the two-episode premiere of Slasher: Ripper on Shudder and AMC+, and not only do we have an exclusive clip just for Daily Dead readers, but director Adam MacDonald (Pyewacket) provided us with some behind-the-scenes details!
Synopsis: "Slasher: Ripper takes the franchise back in time to the late 19th century and follows Basil Garvey (McCormack), a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood. There’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may...

Eleven months have gone by since AMC Networks announced they had ordered a new season of the television anthology series Slasher – and now the premiere of the show’s new season is just a few more months away! Titled Slasher: Ripper, Slasher season 5 is set to premiere on the Shudder and AMC+ streaming services on April 6th.
Slasher is a show that started out on the now-defunct network Chiller, then moved to Netflix for the second and third seasons, and then jumped over to Shudder for the fourth season (which happened to have genre icon David Cronenberg as a cast member). Now AMC+ has gotten in on the action as well.

Today we’ve learned that the series premieres April 6 on Shudder and AMC+.

In 1980, Canada delivered one of the most mind boggling slasher films of all time. Terror Train, directed by Roger Spottiswoode, threw Halloween, Friday the 13th, Animal House, Runaway Train and stage magic into a body bag, shook it up and dumped out a glorious Frankenstein monstrosity featuring Jamie Lee Curtis and David Copperfield. Forty-two years later, this classic oddity gets a modern yet mostly faithful retelling courtesy director Philippe Gagnon.
The premise is exactly the same: a well-to-do fraternity holds a Halloween bash on a privately chartered train only to have their numbers picked off one-by-one. There’s a mysterious magician, played by Tom Rozon in the finest Gary Numan impersonation ever, and an angry killer bent on revenge for the misdeeds of said fraternity. Costumes exchange and body counts rise as both guests and train employees realize someone is out to get them. The main difference is a twist...

Released in 1980 the original Terror Train was one of the many slashers to be released in the wake of Friday the 13th and Halloween. Benefiting from the presence of that film’s star, Jamie Lee Curtis it did well at the box office and has built a following over the years. There was even an attempt to remake it in the early 2000s, but that ended up morphing into Train, a film that sucked even by torture porn standards.
Since the original was a favourite of mine, I was initially interested when I heard it had been remade and was scheduled for an October release. However, when I heard Tubi was involved, a lot of that interest faded. As...

Remakes like Philippe Gagnon's "Terror Train" will always face comparison complaints based on their existence, which is why I try my best in reviews to treat them as standalone. Critique the movie you're given — like this bargain bin, zero momentum slasher. "Terror Train" is the latest in a string of Tubi originals taking the Syfy route of The Asylum-level productions, filled with shoddy effects and worse performances. "Terror Train" is a deadly whodunit without any terror, proving itself inadequate before tickets are punched and conductors discover passenger corpses.
Writers Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin take the "frat hazing gone wrong" route when a pledge at [insert generic Greek letters] kisses a corpse (as a prank) and instantly goes insane. Alana (Robyn Alomar) is the sorority sister who lured the eventual psych asylum patient into a bedroom with promises of sex, now stuck with the guilt. Her boyfriend Mo (Corteon Moore) and his best...

On October 21st, a remake of the 1980 slasher cult classic Terror Train (watch it Here) is going to be released through the Tubi streaming service. With the release date just four days away, a new trailer for the Terror Train remake has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Directed by Philippe Gagnon (Amber Alert) from a screenplay by Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin (Slasher), the Terror Train remake has the following synopsis:
In this contemporary reimagining, eerie excitement is in the air as Alana and a group of college seniors board a party train for a Halloween-themed bash, but their fun spirals into fear as attendees are killed off one by one by an unknown killer. Concealed by costumes and plagued with chaos, everyone is a suspect. As the party train continues full steam ahead, Alana must race against the rails to find the killer before she becomes the next victim.

Fox’s Tubi is adding to its horror library after picking up two Canadian genre pics — Dennis Heaton’s adaptation of Hans Holzer’s The Amityville Curse novel and Marry F*** Kill from writers Ian Carpenter and Aaron Martin — at the Toronto Film Festival.
Indie production banner Incendo will shoot both productions later this year for Tubi in the U.S. market where it faces stepped-up competition in the free, ad-supported online space against Paramount’s Pluto TV, Amazon’s Freevee and the Roku Channel.
The latest genre pic deals for the Fox-owned streaming platform were unveiled on Tuesday at TIFF as part of its informal film market. Marry F*** Kill sees five estranged college friends reunite for their friend’s funeral after her suicide, only to see an innocent game of “Marry, Fuck, Kill” turn into something far more sinister.

The show features rescued pups from around the country as they “strut their fluff” and compete for a series of titles, including best in underbite, best in snoring, best in belly rubs and more. There will be no third season of Netflix’s space drama Another Life, star Katee Sackhoff revealed on Twitter Monday. The news, which is not surprising, comes four months after the release of Season 2 on Oct. 14.
“I wish we could do more seasons but sadly it’s just not in the cards,” Sackhoff wrote in her note to fans, thanking “everyone single person who watched & supported Another Life on Netflix.”
Created by Aaron Martin, who also served as showrunner, Another Life centers on astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff) who is focused on searching for alien intelligence. She leads a crew on a mission to explore the genesis of an alien artifact. As Niko and her young crew investigate, they face unimaginable danger on what might very well be a one-way mission.
The cast of the series, from Alias Grace producer Halfire Entertainment, also included Justin Chatwin as Erik Wallace; Samuel Anderson...

AMC Networks has unveiled a slew of renewals across its streaming services.
Kin, Bloodlands, My Life Is Murder, Creepshow and Slasher have all been picked up for additional seasons.
Slasher, which airs on Shudder, has also set Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack as lead on its latest installment, Slasher: Ripper.
The series, which has been renewed for its fifth season, is heading back in time to the late 19th century — there’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may wind up being yet another victim.

Nearly six years after Degrassi: The Next Generation wrapped in 2015, co-creator Linda Schuyler and stars Stefan Brogren, Aislinn Paul, Shane Kippel, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Lauren Collins and more reunited to celebrate the series’ lasting impact.
The Degrassi: The Next Generation reunion kicked off this year’s Atx Television Festival on Friday. For many of the cast members, reuniting with their on-screen classmates was just like meeting with longtime school buddies as they reminisced on favorite moments from the teen drama.
“What a joy it is to be reminded of those scenes we’ve done together over the years,” Schuyler told her team.
From scenes about sexuality and abortion to mental health issues, Schuyler and the Degrassi cast reflected on how the series unapologetically tackled controversial topics, which often caused more of a stir in the United States than in Canada when they first aired. Today’s shows like Euphoria,...

Exclusive: Girls and Get Out star Allison Williams is to star in and exec produce a U.S. remake of Canadian comedy drama Being Erica.
Williams has teamed up with Boat Rocker Studios, which recently rebranded its Platform One Media division, and Sex and the City writers Elisa Zuritsky & Julie Rottenberg to develop the remake.
Zuritsky and Rottenberg will act as showrunners and exec producers and write the pilot while Naima Ramos-Chapman (Random Acts of Flyness) will direct and exec produce. Jason Weinberg will also executive produce.
It is a loose adaptation of the show, which was produced by Boat Rocker’s Temple Street Productions. Along the way, they’re shocked to discover their lives are inextricably intertwined.

The Katee Sackhoff-led sci-fi space drama Another Life will be back for another go-round. Netflix has picked up a 10-episode second season of the series from Alias Grace producer Halfire Entertainment, with production slated to begin in 2020 in Vancouver, Canada. Sackhoff just revealed the renewal news on social media.
Created by Aaron Martin, who also serves as showrunner, Another Life centers on astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff) who is focused on searching for alien intelligence. She leads a crew on a mission to explore the genesis of an alien artifact. As Niko and her young crew investigate, they face unimaginable danger on what might very well be a one-way mission.
Cast also includes Justin Chatwin as Erik Wallace; Samuel Anderson as William; and Elizabeth Faith Ludlow as Cas Isakovic; among others. Additional cast for season 2 will be announced.
Noreen Halpern executive produces for Halfire Entertainment.

Netflix’s new series “Another Life” brings Katee Sackhoff back into space, a decade after the conclusion of “Battlestar Galactica,” the beloved series on which she starred. But her new series looks more like the rest of the fare on the SyFy network — it’s inelegantly made and operates less in the realm of ideas than in pure scares. It’s not ineffective, but little in “Another Life” connects to do much more than the purely visceral.
Which is too bad, not least because the show starts from a point that suggests it has big things on its mind. The arrival (to borrow the title of the 2016 film the plot seems to ape a bit) of a UFO hovering above Earth prompts Sackhoff, an astronaut, to join a mission seeking its origin and its motives. She’s faced first with a mutinous blowhard among her crew and then by a...

Bursts of insubordination from her crew is arguably the least of Commander Niko Breckinridge’s worries in this brand-new trailer for Netflix’s Another Life — the first such teaser to hint at what the upcoming sci-fi thriller is truly about.
Set for a Thursday, July 25 launch date and hailing from from Aaron Martin (Killjoys), Another Life follows Niko (played by Katee Sackhoff) as she and the crew of her space exploration ship, the Solvare, face unimaginable dangers — on what might very well be a one-way mission — as they seek out an alien world that has deposited a mysterious structure on Earth.
