Not to be confused with the 1986 Gary Paulsen novel that was on your fifth-grade reading list, Adam Green's 2007 slasher "Hatchet" was intended to be an homage to the plentiful stalk-and-kill movies from the 1980s. The first "Hatchet" takes place deep in the swamps of Louisana where feckless city-dwellers get lost while taking a swamp tour. They trade stories of Victor Crowley, a local kid with facial differences who, years ago, was trapped in a burning house set ablaze by prankster teens. Crowley was accidentally killed by his father when he recklessly used a hatchet to free him from the fire. Victor's spirit is now said to haunt the swamp and murder interlopers. Of course, Victor will appear to start the predicted murders.
Victor Crowley was played by stuntman Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for playing the masked killer Jason Voorhees in "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood,...

The latest trailer for "Deadpool & Wolverine" suggests the movie might be even more of a cameo-fest than we'd previously predicted.
Hugh Jackman is back as Logan, of course, and he's bringing leftover characters from the erstwhile 20th Century Fox's Marvel Universe. We already knew Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), and Toad would be back. So will Wolverine's archenemy Sabretooth, perhaps finally giving Logan a chance at closure.
Around the 1:50 minute mark of the new trailer, you were probably focused on the decapitated head of a Giant Man variant (his rotting skull concealed within his ant-styled helmet). I'm much more curious about the characters standing beneath this makeshift base, who look to be familiar (mutant) faces from previous "X-Men" films: Yuriko Oyama/Lady Deathstrike from "X2" and Azazel from "X-Men: First Class."
Both are seen at too far a distance to determine if their previous actors...

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is generating significant anticipation as one of the most exciting upcoming projects in the MCU. Scheduled for release in 2024, it’s already drawing praise from those who have seen previews, with expectations high for its impact on the franchise’s reputation.
As with any highly anticipated project, rumors abound regarding potential cameos, variants, and plot elements, with some confirmations, such as Jennifer Garner’s Elektra, and others still under speculation, supported by mounting evidence. To provide clarity, let’s explore the confirmed and rumored cameos and variants expected in the film.
Aaron Stanford – John Allerdyce/Pyro (Confirmed)
Aaron Stanford’s return was initially speculated, along with a few other minor X-Men villains, though his appearance was later confirmed in the trailer. While he only briefly appears on screen, his unmistakable costume leaves no doubt about his identity. Earlier this year, he had denied any involvement in the movie.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is one of the most exciting upcoming projects. It’s the only MCU movie bound to be released in 2024, and judging by the opinions of people who already saw parts of it, it’s going to be an MCU saver and restore the faith of fans in the franchise overall.
Just like with every anticipated project, plenty of rumors are going around about potential cameos, variants, and elements of the movie. Some have been confirmed like Garner’s Elektra, and some remain under speculation, with more and more evidence stacking to support them. This is why we decided to overview all confirmed (and rumored) cameos & variants that are supposed to be included in the movie.
1. Aaron Stanford – John Allerdyce/Pyro (Confirmed)
Aaron Stanford was only rumored to make a comeback, as well as some other minor X-Men villains. His appearance was ultimately confirmed with the release of the trailer.

Deadpool & Wolverine, the only theatrical project to be released this year from Marvel Studios, has a lot riding on its shoulders. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles, the movie will see many old faces coming back to the fold. Recently, director Shawn Levy and Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige were at CinemaCon, where an almost 10-minute long footage from the movie was shown. And to the surprise of many, an Og Avenger made the trip to Deadpool land.
Deadpool & Wolverine is the sole theatrical MCU release of the year
After Avengers: Endgame, two out of six Og Avengers bid goodbye to the MCU – Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America. Scarlett Johansson too said farewell to her role of Black Widow soon after with her standalone movie, Black Widow (2021). Deadpool 3: Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Fights An X-Men Villain In This Ryan Reynolds Starrer MCU Movie ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
After bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Ryan Reynolds-led Deadpool 3, the makers have brought back yet another mutant from the Og X-Men franchise. Pictures from the film’s set have gone viral on social media, and as per reports, two actors were present there, allegedly for the roles of Toad and Sabertooth. Keep scrolling to know about it in detail.
For the unversed, the X-Men characters were originally under 21st Century Fox, and Disney finally acquired their rights in 2019. After that, Marvel has been inserting mutants in a few films, like they brought Sir Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and most recently, Kelsy Grammers appeared as Beast in the end credit of Brie Larson’s The Marvel.

If you thought Hugh Jackman reprising Wolverine aka Logan for Deadpool 3 was exciting, leaked set photos now show the return of Sabretooth, as played by original portrayer Tyler Mane. Reports (via @danielRPK) have also come in that Toad will also be in the movie with Ray Park again assigned to the character.
As per The Mirror, the Deadpool 3 photo shows a run-in between Sabretooth and Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine. At the risk of spoilers over the scene, we won’t directly post the pic in this article. However, if you want to catch a glimpse of Mane as his X-Men character, click here.
Both Sabretooth and Toad made their big screen debuts in 2000’s X-Men, with Mane and Park in the respective roles. Following that, Sabretooth was played by Liev Schreiber in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As for Toad, a younger version of the character turned...

October has been a pretty exciting month: we celebrated our 250th episode of the podcast with Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, then tackled one of Jason Voorhees’ best entries with Friday the 13th Part 2 before getting real serious with Bryan Singer’s Apt Pupil.
We’re closing out the month with a seasonally appropriate film: Rob Zombie‘s 2009 return to the Halloween franchise, Halloween II. Important note of distinction, however, we’re talking about the Unrated Director’s Cut.
In the film, it’s been two years since Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) faced down Michael Myers (Tyler Mane) but she’s still suffering from serious Ptsd. Despite Annie (Danielle Harris) and Sheriff Brackett’s (Brad Dourif) claims that she’s safe, Laurie is spiraling as Halloween approaches.
Not helping matters is Dr. Sam Loomis (Malcolm McDowell), who has written an insensitive new book about the murders. As Michael returns to finish what he began,...

When I saw John Carpenter perform at NYC's Terminal 5 in November of 2017, he introduced his band's version of the "Halloween" theme with a curiously cryptic message. Before dropping the theme's iconic piano-led 5/4 beat, Carpenter simply said to the sold-out crowd: "Remember ... love never dies."
The application of that phrase to "Halloween" holds just as much ambiguity and eerie mystery as Carpenter's immortal 1978 classic does. Throughout that film, Carpenter and his co-writer and producer, Debra Hill, introduce numerous subtexts when it comes to the unknowable origin, motivations, and inner thoughts of "The Shape" aka Michael Myers; not only are there hints toward some psychosexual hang-ups he may have, but the character is deliberately played by multiple actors.
About 10 years prior to that concert, Dimension Films released writer and director Rob Zombie's remake of Carpenter's film, "Halloween." It was met with an almost overwhelming amount of revulsion, as seen in its...

In John Carpenter's 1978 film "Halloween," the masked killer Michael Myers was played by multiple actors. For the bulk of his scenes, Michael — called "The Shape" — was played by Nick Castle, a film school friend of Carpenter's and a director in his own right. Castle also directed "The Last Starfighter" and "The Boy Who Could Fly." As a small boy, Michael Myers was played, in one scene, by an actor named Will Sandin in his first and last role on screen. In Pov shots, the hands of young Michael were provided by co-writer and producer Debra Hill, while the unmasked Michael — who appears only briefly at the very end of the movie — was played by Tony Moran.
Castle had the lion's share of screen time, however, and is generally thought of as the "official" Michael Myers by "Halloween" fans the world over. Castle would reprise the role for David Gordon Green...

Plot: It tells the story of teenage anti-hero, Vicaria, who is on a desperate quest to cure death.
Review: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is one of the greatest stories ever told so it’s no surprise to see it adapted in so many different ways. Whether it’s Sundance’s Birth/Rebirth or the Emma Stone-starring Poor Things, there’s clearly so much more to these tales than just “raising the dead.” And The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is no different, providing biting social commentary, a unique twist on the story, and some truly wonderful performances.
Vicaria’s (Laya DeLeon Hayes) obsession with death may start out personal, with the death of her family members being her launching point. But it’s more than that, with her taking a deep look at the dissolution of her neighborhood, which further motivates her. Hayes is absolutely phenomenal in the role...

For most horror franchises, a decent fifth film seems to be harder to find than a Necronomicon and usually about as dumb as the guy who’d read it out loud. According to those who have seen Evil Dead Rise (now playing in theaters!), however, it looks like the franchise is now home to the rare fifth entry that actually rules. Hail to the King, baby.
It shouldn’t come as a big surprise to Evil Dead fans because this franchise doesn’t miss. Introducing time travel? No problem. Remake? Kicks ass. Fifth sequel curse? Come get some.
Now, let’s take a look at a handful of other fifth entries that have enjoyed that same rarified air. Here are in no particular order some of my favorite fifth horror movies….

We see recasts pretty regularly on the big screen. For some franchises like Friday the 13th and Halloween, it’s almost a tradition. It’s less common in a non-genre arena. However, other major films have seen some of their important characters get recast for various reasons. Here are a few of them:
Back to the Future: George McFly and Jennifer
Two roles were recast in Back to the Future: Part II. The first recast was that of Jennifer who in the first film is played by Claudia Wells and then in the sequel is played by Elizabeth Shue. Not only did Shue replace Wells in the sequel, but all the flashback scenes to the first film were re-shot with her to make it make sense. The recast here was due to Claudia Wells taking a break from acting to go take care of her mother who had been diagnosed with cancer.

What in the children of the corn just happened?
With only three episodes left this season, Big Sky Season 3 Episode 11 leads us into the home stretch and delivers an hour that is nuts but so enjoyable that I don't even know where to start.
Do we start with Beau turning a hotel hallway into the O.K. Corral in all his cowboy glory? Or do we go with the cornhole game from hell? Both are solid starting points for the insanity that was this hour.
All jokes aside, to discuss this hour, you really have to start with all the Buck stuff because he may be the Bleeding Heart Killer, and he may be dead, and there's just a lot to unpack there.
Buck always presented as a decent guy in the beginning, but as time went on, his sinister side showed more and more to the point where he's...

In discussions about slasher infamy, all roads lead to Haddonfield. The Halloween franchise has amassed a convoluted franchise canon since the late 1970s, filled with retcons and redos as recently as Halloween Ends — including Rob Zombie‘s universally divisive 2007 remake. Countless horror screenwriters, including Josh Stolberg (no stranger to “Revenge of the Remakes”), attempted to plot an angle that’d continue Michael Myers’ story after Halloween: Resurrection — but the tragic 2005 death of producer Moustapha Akkad left the franchise in his son Malek’s hands and veered into a new direction. It was only a matter of time before Halloween would become another 2000s remake statistic, with no shortage of filmmakers lining up to pitch their spin on Haddonfield’s boogeyman.

(Welcome to Scariest Scene Ever, a column dedicated to the most pulse-pounding moments in horror with your tour guides, horror experts Chris Evangelista and Matt Donato. In this edition, Chris checks into the hospital from hell with Rob Zombie's "Halloween II.")
Rob Zombie's "Halloween" is not very good. Of course, anyone daring to remake John Carpenter is facing a Herculean task, but Zombie proved surprisingly ill-equipped for the job. To be fair, the filmmaker has a great eye for visuals. It's his screenwriting that needs serious work, and his "Halloween" is loaded with some weak storytelling and terrible dialogue.
So I wasn't exactly jumping for joy when Zombie returned for "Halloween II." But surprise, surprise, the film turned out to be a vast improvement over the original. Sure, the lousy dialogue is still there. But, freed from having to imitate Carpenter's story beats, Zombie gets to go wild, unleashing a strange,...

It's up for debate whether or not "Halloween Ends" is going to be the actual end of the "Halloween" franchise. The more recent installments have seen wildly mixed reviews, with passionate stances coming from both sides of the aisle — but if there's one thing "Halloween" fans can agree on, it's their desire for more Michael Myers. That said, it appears that Jame Lee Curtis, our longtime heroine Laurie Strode, isn't the only pivotal cast member who claims she is saying goodbye to the story for good.
Myers actor James Jude Courtney confirmed that "Halloween Ends" would be his last time donning the mask during an interview with ScreenRant published on October 18, 2022. He said:

When John Carpenter made "Halloween" in 1978, it was still the early days of the slasher genre. Early slashers, a connoisseur of the genre might notice, spent more time establishing the state and story of their human protagonists than they did their featured serial killers. It wouldn't be until the genre became overrun with innumerable sequels that the killer would become the main character. Eventually, the slasher genre became, essentially, the Supervillain Movie. Fans came not to see the resolute heroes who would destroy evil, but the evil itself. Freddy is, after all, more interesting, fun, and charismatic than any of his victims.

The timeline of the "Halloween" movies is as clear as mud. At last count, David Gordon Green's 2022 film "Halloween Ends" will be the fourth film in its particular continuity, stemming from the 1978 original, but then skipping straight to the 2018 film. The "Halloween" series also did this in 1998 with the release of "Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later," which stemmed from the 1981 film "Halloween II". "Halloween III," incidentally, took place outside of the Michael Myers timeline, and "Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers" ignored "Halloween III." Apart from John Carpenter's 1978 film, it seems, pretty much all the other "Halloween" sequels have been discarded at some point.

Rob Zombie's "Halloween II" was bigger and fouler than its 2007 predecessor in every way, as is required of most sequels. Swelling beyond the babysitter murders of Haddonfield that encompassed his 2007 "Halloween" (itself a beefed-up origin story of the boogeyman made famous by John Carpenter's original 1978 slasher), the franchise's tenth entry got to the macro by way of the micro, focusing on the shared broken psyches of Laurie Strode (Scout Taylor-Compton) and her assailant, Michael Myers (Tyler Mane). "Halloween II" -- a movie Zombie didn't even want to make at first -- also mythologized Myers in a way that...

Rob Zombie’s upcoming “The Munsters” reboot is rated PG, the filmmaker announced on Instagram this week. The rating makes sense given that “The Munsters” is based on the family-oriented sitcom that gained popularity in the 1960s, but many fans speculated what kind of “Munsters” film the reboot would be given the involvement of Zombie. The director behind violent and twisted horror films such as “House of 1000 Corpses” and “3 from Hell” doesn’t exactly scream family friendly.
“For those of you speculating, wondering and assuming that ‘The Munsters’ would be dirty, violent and nasty…well, you are wrong,” Zombie wrote on Instagram while announcing his reboot’s PG rating. “It’s all good down on Mockingbird Lane.”

The premiere episode of Netflix’s “Jupiter’s Legacy” ends with an epic hilltop battle between the superhero group known as the Union and villain Blackstar (Tyler Mane). The members of the Union live by a simple but strict moral code of never killing bad guys, but this fight tests the strength of that resolve. Blackstar not only has superhuman speed and stamina, but also a giant anti-matter battery that powers his suit and allows him to release explosive energy capable of taking out everyone and everything in his path. What plays out on-screen is a stunning stunt- and VFX-heavy sequence that is made even more special by the fact that most of the key artists putting it together behind the scenes were women.

Rob Zombie, the heavy-metal musician turned director, has confirmed that he will write and direct a feature film based on “The Munsters,” the ’60s sitcom about a family of friendly monsters.
“Attention Boils and Ghouls!,” Zombie wrote on Instagram. “The rumors are true! My next film project will be the one I’ve been chasing for 20 years! The Munsters! Stay tuned for exciting details as things progress!”
Zombie is a longtime Munsters fan who named his song “Dragula” after the Munsters’ car and has often spoken of his love for the series.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains light spoilers for “Jupiter’s Legacy,” but really just the end of the first episode.]
When Paragon smashed in Blackstar’s brain, he broke my brain, too.
The premiere of “Jupiter’s Legacy” ends exactly as expected: with a climactic battle between our newly introduced heroes and a seemingly unstoppable supervillain. Set high on a grassy hilltop safely away from innocent bystanders, dozens of caped crusaders use their respective powers to put down a raging behemoth baddie by the name of Blackstar (Tyler Mane). Lady Liberty (Leslie Bibb) tries flying at him really fast and ends up grounded, face first. The Flare (Tenika Davis) shoots fireballs that do less damage than a water balloon, and Tectonic (Stephen Oyoung) erupts the Earth under Blackstar’s feet, amounting to little more than a detoxifying mud-bath.
The scene serves as both a battle royale and a short-hand introduction to each hero’s abilities, but any grasp on...

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming superhero series, Jupiter’s Legacy, which is set to arrive May 7th.
Adding a dash of family drama to the classic superhero formula, the show is centered around a major changing of the guard, as the world’s first superheroes prepare to pass the proverbial torch to the next generation. But that shift, of course, comes with all sorts of angst as the younger heroes must learn to not only harness their powers but live up to the expectations of both their parents and the world.

The 1980s is still viewed by many as the Golden Age of the slasher movie where the genre reached the peak of its commercial and cultural popularity, with iconic figures like Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger terrorizing both audiences in the theater and hapless teenagers on the big screen with increasing regularity.
Despite their status as legends of the medium, however, the men behind these characters often found themselves being replaced with the notable exception of Robert Englund, who has played Freddy in every live-action appearance apart from the dismal 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, where Jackie Earle Haley donned the fetching sweater and fedora combination.

One decent rule about celebrities is that their public persona is often at odds with how they really are. For example, cuddly, wholesome and family-friendly types can turn out to have a sinister and manipulative side (*cough* Bill Cosby), while people with a scary and evil image are usually incredibly nice. Musician and director Rob Zombie is very much the latter.

In this ropey family movie, a crew of burly ‘smoke jumpers’ are terrorised by three children they rescue from a burning building
Ex-wwe wrestler John Cena stars in this pretty ropey piece of mainstream nontertainment, about Jake “Supe” Carson, lovable but uptight, who runs a crew of dedicated firefighters in California called “smoke jumpers” who ’copter into remote terrain to tackle any blaze. His goofy comrades are Mark (Keegan-Michel Key), Rodrigo (John Leguizimo) and Axe (Tyler Mane).
Things go sideways when Supe and the gang rescue a bunch of unattended kids from a burning house: mouthy teen Brynn (Brianna Hildebrand), kid brother Will (Christian Convery) and baby sister Zoey (Finley Rose Slater). Then he and his bros have to look after them back at their man-cave fire station until their parents arrive. ‘Black Christmas’ (Photo credit: Universal).
With Disney/Fox’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker invading cinemas this Thursday no distributor was brave – or foolish – enough to launch potentially lucrative titles last weekend.
So, no one could blame cinemagoers for ignoring the new releases which had flopped or under-performed in the Us or the UK, while Universal/Blumhouse’s horror movie Black Christmas was D.O.A here and globally.
Paramount’s family comedy Playing with Fire fared best among the newcomers, but that’s not saying a lot as the top 20 titles generated $10.4 million, down 16 per cent on the previous frame according to Numero.
The Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen II continued its reign, raking in nearly $3.7 million in its third weekend, propelling the total to $22.8 million. The sequel co-directed by the original’s Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee has amassed $1.03 billion worldwide, ranking as the seventh biggest animated release of all time.

Need to drop off the kids at the multiplex while you take care of some pre-Thanksgiving “prep”? Or Christmas shopping. Well, it’s still a few weeks until Frozen 2, that Addams clan is going the way of the bags of “fun-size” candies and cardboard witches, and those Artic Dogs are racing across the tundra toward home video (seems to be setting records….all the “worst-ever’ ones). How about a nice PG-rated “family-friendly” slapstick comedy? Most kids love those firefighters and their big trucks (in grade school we’d rush to window upon the siren’s wail), and those big larger than life wrestlers. Mix ’em all up with a lovable sloppy dog and three rowdy, mischievous kids and you’ve got the “kiddie matinee fodder’ entitled Playing With Fire. But with that name, is there still a big chance that you’ll get burned?

When I think about some of the family films that peppered my childhood, there are many that still make the cut for decent, fun entertainment. Unfortunately for my daughter and nephews, “Playing with Fire” won’t be one of those fond movie memories they will want to share with their own kids someday.
The film is bland and predictable, underestimates kids’ abilities to understand story and humor, and relies way too much on sight gags that are clichéd and overdone.
Fire Station Superintendent Jake Carson (John Cena), “Supe” to his crew, loves his job. As a smoke jumper, he leads Mark (Keegan Michael-Key), Rodrigo (John Leguizamo) and Axe as they parachute into wildfires, saving lives and homes throughout a more woodsy area of California. When Supe airlifts Brynn, Will and Zoey (Finley Rose Slater) from a blazing cabin fire, the incoming weather and inability to hand them off to a...

With 10 wildfires currently burning throughout California, residents have become all too familiar with the concept of containment — a measurement that refers to the perimeter firefighters create around a blaze to prevent its spread. Marketing materials for Paramount’s November 8 firehouse comedy “Playing With Fire” starring John Cena uses the tagline “0% Contained.” Not exactly the association you want for a Nickelodeon-produced family movie.
However, Paramount appears acutely aware of the optics. With a plan for charitable donations and other outreach to real-life firefighters, the studio has gotten ahead of any critical commentary on the matter, most of which has long been planned, a representative said.
Cena plays a straight-laced fire superintendent who heads an elite team of smokejumpers who parachute into blazes. Keegan-Michael Key, John Leguizamo, and Tyler Mane are part of the team who rescue three children in the path of a wildfire. They unwittingly become babysitters to the...

When it comes to the motion picture industry, most actors will tell you that you’re fortunate enough to play one iconic character in your lifetime. Some, however, manage to rack up several more during their careers, and you have to give them credit for being able to do so.
Having had the chance to interview Tyler Mane this past weekend at The Monroe Pop Fest, it did indeed occur to me that I was essentially meeting both Halloween‘s Michael Myers and X-Men’s Sabretooth in one fell swoop. That said, he’s part of the exclusive club mentioned moments ago.
Before having the privilege to chat with Tyler though, one question I knew I’d ask him was which other horror icon he’d like to play. In the past, Kane Hodder, who’s perhaps best known for playing Jason Voorhees in four Friday the 13th movies, told...

Considering how the Halloween film franchise has surpassed double digits when it comes to racking up sequels, it’s actually somewhat amazing to think not many actors have played Michael Myers on more than one occasion. Nick Castle, often referred to as “the O.G. Shape,” has done so though, with Tyler Mane being another notable actor to have also accomplished that feat.
The main difference between those two fellas is that Castle was able to reprise the role because he was doing so in a 2018 followup to the 1978 original. Therefore, it made much sense to bring him back. Mane, meanwhile, was contained to a two-film alternate timeline established by Rob Zombie, so he may never return.
