Chris McCarthy continues to slim down Showtime’s content pipeline.
The premium cable network has passed on four projects: the reboot of Gattaca that would have brought Homeland duo Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa back to the Paramount Global outlet as well as Seasoned, the comedy inspired by the lives of married couple Mandy Patinkin and Kathryn Grody that had previously had a series order. Also getting the pass are two projects that had been in development — Split and Sweetness.
Sony Pictures Television, which produces Gattaca and Sweetness, plans to shop both projects.
Showtime declined to comment.
The passes come after Chris McCarthy added oversight of Showtime to his purview last year, giving him control of nearly all of Paramount Global’s linear networks including MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Network, among others. FX’s “Pistol,” the series based on the memoir from Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, will begin streaming on Hulu May 31, with all six episodes of the limited series available at launch.
“Pistol” has been described by FX as a show about “a rock and roll revolution.”

Set in the American South, Daniel Peddle’s Los Angeles Film Festival premiere “Moss” finds former Ck model Mitchell Slaggert taking on a tricky role. As the eponymous Moss, Slaggert is tasked with playing an isolated young man grappling with a legacy he doesn’t fully understand. Motherless since birth, Moss is eager to break away from his resentful father, and he thinks his 18th birthday is the perfect time for such a life change.
Moss unexpectedly meets someone new during his chosen day of busting loose, a mysterious hiker who opens his eyes to the possibilities of the world — at least partially aided by psychedelics. What follows looks to be a lush, lyrical look at life in Southern Gothic America and the people who are tied to it forever.

Warner Bros. has preemptively picked up School of Fear, a kidlit book proposal from Gitty Daneshvari, for an adaptation to be produced by Graham King and his GK Films banner.
The 89-page proposal details a four-part book series that tells the adventures of four 12-year-olds named Madeleine, Garrison, Lulu and Theo who attend an offbeat summer camp called School of Fear run by an elusive headmistress. The camp aims at eradicating children's phobias through unorthodox methods.
Little Brown is slated to publish the first book in fall 2009.
GK Films' Grey Rembert and Gail Lyon also are producing.
Daneshvari came up with the idea 10 years ago and worked on it while an assistant at CAA. Daneshvari then moved up the Hollywood ladder to development exec at Contrafilm where she kept plugging away at her writing, finally leaving her post about a year ago to pursue a full-time writing career.
Daneshvari gave the proposal to a former colleague at CAA, at that time an assistant but since then elevated to agent, who passed it on to an agent.
