He was posthumously awarded a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Television at 6743 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California on March 31, 1988. His Walk of Fame star is located next to his wife Betty White's star.
He and his first wife had three children: David Ludden, Martha Ludden and Sarah Ludden.
He met his wife, Betty White, a couple of times on Password, but while performing in the play "Critic's Choice" their relationship blossomed.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army as officer in charge of entertainment in the Pacific theater, received the Bronze Star Metal, and was discharged with the rank of captain (1946).
