Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have shared their rendition of “When the Levee Breaks” to mark the recent launch of the duo’s summer tour.
The track — a Memphis Minnie cover, of course, popularized by Led Zeppelin’s IV — is Plant and Krauss’ first single since the longtime collaborators released their Raise the Roof in 2021.
On the recording, Plant and Krauss are joined by guitarist Jd McPherson, drummer Jay Bellerose, bassist Dennis Crouch, string player Stuart Duncan (who delivers this version’s fiddle solo), and multi-instrumentalist Viktor Krauss.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have been performing “When the Levee Breaks” together live for several years; now, in celebration of their latest tour kicking off this week (grab tickets here), the duo has shared a new recording of the song.
The new version of “When the Levee Breaks” is the first release from Plant and Krauss since their 2021 album Raise the Roof. Taking some cues from the 1971 Led Zeppelin cover of the Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy original, the duo’s new arrangement breathes fresh life into the song, with rich harmonies, a blistering fiddle part, and an acoustic, Americana feel.

Willie Nelson was forced to quite smoking marijuana a few years back due to breathing issues. However, that doesn’t mean the country legend has cut down on his cannabis consumption; he still vapes and eats edibles. He’s also picked up more than a few cannabis recipes over the years, which he and his wife Annie have now collected in a new cookbook.
Willie & Annie Nelson’s Cannabis Cookbook is set for release on November 12th via Gallery Books (pre-orders are now ongoing). Spanning 256 pages, the recipe book draws from the couple’s “favorite meals on nationwide tours, at the ranch, at home, and in their favorite cities along the way.”

There are recipes for buffalo wings, fried chicken, and chocolate cake, as well as “additional chapter providing a full suite of cannabis-infused base ingredients—cannabutter, finishing oil, simply syrups, sugars, salts, and tinctures.

Robert Plant has opened up about his recent struggles with songwriting, telling Rolling Stone in a recent interview that he is going through “a very difficult time” trying to write new material.
“I’ve got a group of friends that I play with over here a little bit from time to time. Monday, January 8th, would’ve been David Bowie’s 77th birthday. To mark the occasion, Wilco has shared their rendition of Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity.”
The release hails from Wilco’s 2023 performance on Mountain Stage (a public radio show distributed by NPR Music), and will be included on an upcoming compilation announced today titled Live On Mountain Stage: Outlaws and Outliers, due on April 19th via Oh Boy Records.
Presenting a wonderfully Wilco-esque take on “Space Oddity” — itself named the 43rd best song of all time by Consequence in 2012 — the band settles into an acoustic arrangement, allowing Jeff Tweedy’s vocals to masterfully convey the tune’s enduring appeal for humanity.
Speaking about the performance in a statement, the band said: “As a gratefully, if not begrudgingly, Earth-bound band, it’s always an honor and a challenge to tackle any of David Bowie’s space-soaring arrangements. Striving to reach...

Perhaps inspired by Dave Grohl’s own recent interpretation, Robert Plant dusted off Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” for the first time in in 16 years during a charity concert in the UK on Saturday night.
Plant’s performance came as part of “An Evening With Andy Taylor And Special Guests,” a charity concert organized by former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor benefiting the Cancer Awareness Trust. (Taylor was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018.)
The 75-year-old Led Zeppelin frontman sounded as spectacular as he ran through 1971 power ballad for the first time since the band’s one-off reunion concert in 2007. Watch the replay below.
Despite feeling like the old guy from the cover of Led Zeppelin IV, Plant is still going strong. He most recently toured with collaborator Alison Krauss in support of their 2022 album, Raise the Roof.

In a little over a decade together, the band’s songs left their mark on fans everywhere, and manager Peter Grant’s strong leadership and business savvy helped the band make a fortune. Alongside some never-before-seen photos of the artist, the book offers Nelson’s insights into songs from across his decades-long career, from the compositions he only got $50 for as a Nashville songwriter to the solo songs that have become classics. The project will delve into Willie’s Family and his relationships with Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings, Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, Ray Price, and Dolly Parton, as well as his personal life. It follows Nelson’s 2016 offering Pretty Paper, also co-written with David Ritz, and marks his 10th book overall. Pre-orders are ongoing.

Robert Plant’s main job in Led Zeppelin shows was to get onstage and make sure he hit all the notes. Given the range required for many of their songs, this wasn’t always an easy task. As a result, Plant had to find ways to make singing easier for him. He said that one of his classic onstage poses was a direct result of his fear that he might miss a note.

On his podcast Digging Deep, Plant addressed the way he would arch his back while singing. He noted that singers do it to open their chest up, but he was mostly concerned that he would miss a note.
“I often did it like that because I didn’t really know whether I could hit the right peckin’ note!” he told host Matt Everitt,...

In Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant whined, crooned, howled, and wailed his way through more than one song. He performed vocal acrobatics that would be a challenge for many singers. Despite this, he said that his biggest challenge as a singer was a song he sang with Alison Krauss. He shared why the song was such a difficult task to take on.
Robert Plant | Art Zelin/Getty Images Robert Plant said there’s one song that he found most difficult to sing
In 2007, Plant and Krauss released their Grammy-winning album, Raising Sand. On it, they covered the Dillard & Clark song “Polly,” re-recorded as “Polly Come Home.” Their version was a gorgeous, slowed-down cover of the original. It was also a huge challenge for Plant.
“It’s just the most difficult piece of music to sing at the tempo that we sang it at,” he said on his podcast Digging Deep (via...

Robert Plant has had a successful solo career, and he has former Led Zeppelin bandmate Jimmy Page to thank, at least in part. Plant has dabbled in different genres and released award-winning albums. He admitted that after reading a harsh headline about Page, he realized that he didn’t want his best work to be behind him.

Page and Plant worked together for years in Led Zeppelin, but they set off on mostly separate courses after the band broke up in 1980. Plant has collaborated with a number of other artists and released solo albums. Page released his first and only solo album in 1988. Plant has been more hesitant than Page to put together a Led Zeppelin reunion, and he once said that Page should move on with his life.

Led Zeppelin made Robert Plant’s solo career possible. The singer worked laying asphalt roads and gigging with pre-Zeppelin bands that found modest success at best. He found fame with the band but faced a sudden shift when Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham died. Plant loves Peoria, Illinois, because it was the sight of his “turning point” when he started his solo career after the band broke up.

Led Zeppelin broke up when Bonham died, but not only because his playing was impossible to replicate. His irreplaceable chemistry with his bandmates was a major reason they couldn’t carry on without Bonzo.

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page worked together in Led Zeppelin and have collaborated since the band broke up. While they hold respect for each other, they can’t seem to agree on some things. A big issue that has loomed between them for a while is whether or not Led Zeppelin should reunite. They’ve publicly spoken about it, but a reunion tour doesn’t seem to be any closer to happening. Plant once said that Page should move on.

Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant was lucky to find the band as his earlier musical groups barely found traction. Yet it was a symbiotic relationship — Zep was lucky to have him as the frontman. Plant’s notable, non-musical job is a dream come true, but he regrets one part of his life he sacrificed to be a rock star with Led Zeppelin.
Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant | Robert Knight Archive/Redferns Robert Plant regretted sacrificing his home life to join Led Zeppelin’s tours
Jimmy Page assembled Led Zeppelin from the ashes of the Yardbirds. The band’s earliest gigs saw them billed as the New Yardbirds, but Zep built its reputation with its arduous touring schedule.
The band toured Scandinavia and England exhaustively in late 1968 before the debut record hit stores. In 1969 alone, Led Zeppelin went back and forth between North America and Europe for extensive tours three times.

Most Led Zeppelin fans don’t know that lead singer Robert Plant is also a bass player. He even played a bit on one of the band’s earlier albums! Even though the rock legend was stuck on vocals when performing with Zeppelin, he has dabbled in other instruments over the years. In 2005, he admitted he wanted to play bass for a band many have compared to the one that made him famous.

In 1977, Robert Plant expressed his desire to record with Stevie Nicks. Fleetwood Mac was at the height of their fame, having recently released Rumours, and Plant, like many others, found Nicks fascinating. The trouble was, he had a hard time remembering her name. The two singers never did work together, but their writing styles prove that they would have been great partners.

Robert Plant can play guitar, but for a while, he didn’t want to. In his solo career, he has become more comfortable with playing the acoustic guitar. While in Led Zeppelin, though, Plant didn’t even think he should touch the instrument. He explained why even looking at a guitar was stressful.

While looking to put together a band, guitarist Jimmy Page recruited Plant as the singer. He saw him performing at a small venue and knew he would be a perfect fit for the group.
“I went up to see Robert sing with Obs-Tweedle at a college to an audience of about 12,” Page said in Legends of Music Spotlight: Led Zeppelin. “His voice was exceptional. I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t a big name already.

The 65th Grammy Awards were on February 5, and days later people are still talking about some of the winners. In particular, there’s been a mixed reaction to the Album of the Year prize. While many bet on Beyoncé’s Black and queer liberation record, “Renaissance,” to nab the songstress her first Album of the Year prize, others expected it to go to Grammy darling Adele (“30”), the genre-bending Americana favorite Brandi Carlile (“In These Silent Days”), or record-breaking Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny (“Un Verano Sin Ti”). What actually won, though, was Harry Styles’s third studio album, “Harry’s House,” which took home two additional trophies for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and Best Pop Vocal Album. Albeit controversial, Styles’s win let’s us know a lot about how the Grammys operate, what constitutes a likely Grammy-winning album, and why “Harry’s House” shouldn’t feel like the shocker it was to many.

Let me make this super-duper uber-clear: It does not matter that Beyoncé lost the album of the year Grammy in 2023, as well as in 2017, 2015 and 2010.

Because at the end of the day Beyoncé is Beyoncé — a superstar singer and dancer who has evolved with each album she has released. She has done the unthinkable. She has defeated the odds. She has broken the Internet. She has rewritten history. She has changed the game.
The reason albums come out on Fridays instead of Tuesdays? Beyoncé did that. Artists deciding to surprise drop music and not pre-announce releases? Beyoncé again. She’s one of the most impressive visual artists but was...
