- Gustav A. Knauer was born on October 30, 1886 in Berlin, Germany. He was an art director and production designer, known for The Beggar from Cologne Cathedral (1927), The Gala Performance (1932) and The Barber of Seville (1938). He died on June 12, 1950 in Berlin, Germany.
- During World War II he was again engaged as a production designer, among others for "Der Sündenbock" (1940), "Kleine Mädchen - grosse Sorgen (1941), "Sein Sohn" (1942), "Das war mein Leben" (1944) and "Der Meisterdetektiv" (1944).
- He already got in touch with the film business in 1911 when he worked for Oskar Messter's company as an assistant of other production designers. In 1919 he became himself a production designer - first for Bioscop.
- Only two more movies were released in the cinema after the war.
- His services were also much in demand during the sound film era of the 30s and he created the settings for several productions.
- The production designer Gustav A. Knauer joined an education as a scene artist and was able to gain a foothold at the theater scene in Berlin where he decorated many stage performances.
