A lawsuit filed on Wednesday accused Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose of using “fame, status and power” to rape a Penthouse Pet in a Manhattan hotel room in 1989.
Model Sheila Kennedy alleged that Rose violently attacked and raped her after the two met in a New York nightclub. According to the lawsuit, Kennedy had been invited to the club by a Guns N’ Roses fan, though she was not one herself.
After meeting Kennedy, Rose allegedly invited her to his hotel room but did not allow the friend to come, as she was “not hot enough.”
Rose supplied Kennedy and his other guests with cocaine, champagne and other substances. The lawsuit states that the two shared a kiss, and Kenedy was “open to sleeping with [Rose] if things progressed and they continued to find each other attractive.”
Kennedy became uncomfortable when Rose began having “aggressive” sex with another female model in front of her.

Jamie Foxx, Axl Rose, Cuba Gooding Jr. Sued in Wave of Sexual Assault Lawsuits Ahead of Key Deadline
A series of high-profile figures in Hollywood are being sued ahead of a deadline to file lawsuits under a New York law that suspended time constraints on claims involving allegations of sexual misconduct for one year.
At the top of the list of defendants who are expected to be sued or were named in complaints filed Wednesday and Thursday in New York’s state Supreme Court: Sean “Diddy” Combs, Axl Rose, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Iovine. On Tuesday, Bill Cosby was also sued in another suit from a woman claiming the actor drugged and sexually assaulted her in the 1980s.
Plaintiffs, who typically would’ve been constrained from suing under the statute of limitations, have been taking advantage of New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which revived the window to bring sexual misconduct claims for one year. It closes at midnight Thursday. This month, suits were filed against Combs,...

Updated with statement from Rose’s attorney: A new lawsuit accuses Guns ‘N Roses singer Axl Rose of sexual assault and battery over an alleged attack in a Manhattan hotel suite in 1989.
Sheila Kennedy’s suit claims she “suffered severe emotional, physical, financial and psychological distress” when Rose (real name William Bailey) “used his fame, status, and power as a celebrity and performer in the music industry to gain access to manipulate, control, and violently sexually assault” her.
The case was filed under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which provides a one-year window for sexual assault plaintiffs to file civil claims, regardless of the statute of limitations. That window closes on Thursday.
“Simply put, this incident never happened,” said Rose’s attorney, Alan S. Gutman of Gutman Law. “Notably, these fictional claims were filed the day before the New York State filing deadline expires. Though he doesn’t deny...

Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose has been sued for an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 1989.
In the lawsuit filed in New York City on Wednesday (November 22nd), former Penthouse model Sheila Kennedy claims that Rose “violently” raped her after the two met at a night club. She says that Rose invited her and former MTV host, Riki Rachtman, to his New York hotel room, where he gave them alcohol and cocaine. Kennedy eventually became “uncomfortable” when the musician began aggressively having sex with another model in front of Kennedy, encouraging her to engage in group sex.
The complaint states that Kennedy and Rachtman then left the hotel room, which made Rose “furious” and prompted him to “loom threateningly.” After finding Kennedy in Rachtman’s hotel room, Rose allegedly pushed Kennedy to the ground and dragged her by her hair...

In the final installment of our story about a new product collaboration between PopTech, Timbuk2 Designs, and the Portable Light Project, PopTech's Cordelia Newlin de Rojas discusses how the Flap solar-powered Led bag can and should be used right here in our own country.
The term "bottom of the pyramid" often conjures images of the poorest-of-the-poor in remote countries. But America has its own bottom of the pyramid, and with America Reimagined as our theme at this year's PopTech conference, I set out to find a community in the States who might benefit from the Flap initiative.
With the help of PopTech Social Innovation Fellows Emily Pilloton and Heather Fleming, we were able to connect with two communities, the Bodaway and Cameron chapters on the western edge of the Navajo Nation reservation. My colleague Beth Cohen and I set out to Arizona unsure of what to expect. On the whole,...

In the third installment of our story about a new product collaboration between PopTech, Timbuk2 Designs, and the Portable Light Project, Sheila Kennedy of Kva MTx discusses the importance of bringing clean, mobile energy to developing nations.
Mobility--on foot, by bicycle, bus, train or motor scooter--is a reality of life for one quarter of the world's population who live without electricity, most in extreme poverty. The Portable Light Project provides people in the developing world with the freedom to access clean energy anytime, anywhere. The Portable Light Project is working with the Rocky Mountain Institute (Rmi) to create portable solar textile kits that can be adapted by local communities--using local materials and building on the local craft and inventiveness of diverse cultures worldwide. In the second installment of our story about a new product collaboration between PopTech, Timbuk2 Designs, and the Portable Light Project, Timbuk2's Kevin McSpadden talks about transforming the company's typical messenger bag into a portable solar-powered light source.
When Andrew Zolli, executive director and curator of PopTech, and I were talking about ideas for the PopTech community and Timbuk2, a light went off. What if Timbuk2 partnered with Sheila Kennedy of the Portable Light Project to create a bag to serve both a first world and developing market need--a portable, clean, and renewable energy source? It made so much sense--Portable Light Project makes portable lights and we make portable bags.
Thus, the Flap--Flexible Light and Power--project was born.
So, what’s all the Flap about? Every day in most of the world, we flick a switch, and voila--light. We take light for granted in our everyday lives but much...

As Fast Company writers, we go to a lot of conferences. A lot of conferences. And the one thing that we can't stand to see as we wait in line to pick up our namebadges is the leviathan of crumpled canvas rippling away from the registration desk for miles, its plastic and cardstock innards oozing onto the carpet.
You know what I'm talking about. The swag bags.
Ridding the conference world of the swag bag has been my personal vendetta (see section 6, Stop the In-Swag-ity). A few places have caught on, letting attendees pick only the items they want, or compressing sponsor information onto a flash drive. But then we caught wind of a new concept at PopTech, the mighty Camden, Maine conference focused on social impact. They were still going to make bags. But they were going to work on making a better bag. An incredible, intelligent, game-changing bag.
