On March 4, major Hollywood crew unions began negotiating their health and pension benefits with studios and streamers, with Hollywood Teamsters head Lindsay Dougherty saying, “We will strike if we have to” during the talks. But some Los Angeles-area crewmembers say that, in the aftermath of the writers’ and actors’ walkouts in 2023, there doesn’t seem to be that much work to halt if their own stoppage is called.
Caught in a brutal industry contraction amid the demise of Peak TV, crewmembers describe an anemic return to production after the strikes, which is exacerbating problems for those who already had significantly fewer opportunities to work in 2023.
“There hasn’t been any real work,” says one location manager based in L.A., who didn’t work for seven and a half months during and after the strikes. “The industry is not back. What’s back is a few things that are doing...

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. Pat Swinney Kaufman has seen huge changes in her 18 years as executive director of the New York State Governor’s Office for Motion Picture and Television Development, but one constant has been her attendance at the annual Locations Show organized in Southern California by the Association of Film Commissioners International. “You want to be out here because there’s always a story to tell and information to share,” said Kaufman, who was accompanied on her trip by her husband, Lloyd Kaufman, founder of Troma Films. “You want to touch base with people you’ve known for years, and there are always new

Did you miss the Filmmaker Conference at Independent Film Week last month? Me too – I managed to catch a few panels, but I spent most of the week running around, working, and attending other Ifw events (as evidenced by my photo blogs here, here, and here).
Luckily, Ifp will streaming the entire conference available to members. One new video will be added to ifp.org every weekday this month. Membership levels start at $35, which for roughly 30 hours of film industry education (and tons of other benefits) is not a bad deal.
One video is already online – a case study of Sundance Audience Award winning documentary Buck featuring director Cindy Meehl, producer Julie Goldman, editor Toby Shimin, associate producer Sofia Santana, line producer Alice Henty, and co-executive producer and Back Allie Films president Andrea Meditch.
Other panels coming soon:

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

The state on Tuesday unveiled two 30-second TV spots with the celebrities -- along with 15-second promos featuring them individually -- produced by director Bob Giraldi.
State officials lauded the latest spot -- the first TV spot since 2006 -- for bringing together big names for pro-bono work at a time when the state is looking for tourism as a key part of its economic recovery strategy. New York -- Chaos in the New York State Senate in Albany on Monday overshadowed a meeting of film and TV production sector representatives with the office of Katherine Oliver, head of the NYC Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting, to discuss the future shape of the city's successful production tax incentives.
The Mayor's Office didn't comment Monday, but two sources familiar with the situation said the two sides expressed a willingness to discuss the situation further.
With only two weeks to go to the summer break of the New York State legislature in Albany, the industry has suggested extending the New York City production tax credits at the current 5% through 2013. But to give New York City time to address budget woes amid the recession, the proposal includes caps for annual payouts by the city, under which it would provide money for small projects more quickly, while delaying payouts...
