Samantha Bee and Kristen Everman’s Swimsuit Competition production company is partnering with Sinking Ship Entertainment to produce a sketch comedy series for kids, Variety has learned exclusively.
Titled “Best Day Ever,” the single-camera show is described as having a style similar to more adult-themed sketch shows like “I Think You Should Leave” and “Key and Peele,” but featuring adults only in supporting roles. The show hails from producer, director, and writer Allana Harkin. The project will be taken out at MIPCOM 2022.
“Eleven year old Samantha Bee just blushed so hard she fell off her banana seat bike,” said Bee. “Also, she would have killed for a show like this.”
“With ‘Best Day Ever,’ we are striving to make a dynamic sketch comedy series that brings kids joy, sparks their curiosity and most importantly makes them laugh,” added J.J. Johnson, partner and executive producer at Sinking Ship Entertainment. “We’re thrilled to partner with Allana,...

The Broadway revival of David Mamet’s American Buffalo starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell and Darren Criss – postponed from 2020 due to the Covid shutdown – will open at Circle in the Square Theatre on Wednesday, April 14, 2022, two years to the day after its original target.
Previews for the strictly limited 16-week engagement will begin the week of March 22. The play will be directed, as originally planned, by Neil Pepe.
Following the 2020 cancellation, lead producer Jeffrey Richards said the producing team intended to stage the production in spring 2021 but only if Covid vaccines were widely available. At the time – summer 2020 – Richards became the first Broadway producer to insist that a return to the stage would be predicated on vaccinations.
Broadway currently requires all audiences and theater workers to be vaccinated, a policy in place through at least the end of this year.

David Mamet’s gangster fable benefits from a casting match made in heaven — Don Ameche and Joe Mantegna. A shoeshine vendor is tapped to take a rap for a mob boss, but the hoodlum delivering him to court instead takes him on a two-day escape to Reno … against mob orders. It’s low-key comedy with delightful characters and the sobering knowledge that the weekend will end in jail … or the morgue. After a thirty-year hiatus Ameche makes a marvelous return to starring glory… just think, a Mamet film where we really warm up to the players!

Chicago – I am an unabashed defender of nearly everything that David Mamet has ever made and the arrival of another one of his films under the Criterion banner makes for a special occasion in this critic’s household. The new release of Mamet’s “Homicide” (1991) is a must-own for fans of one of the most important playwrights of the last fifty years and an underrated filmmaker as well.
DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0 Mamet's films almost always deal with figures of authority and men who try to achieve excellence within classic roles like teacher, salesman, or, in the case of "Homicide," police officer. Of course, Mamet isn't interested in a traditional "man in blue" story of good guy fighting crime, even if the film starts by promising such a structure. Ultimately, the fight in "Homicide" is an internal one.
Homicide was released on DVD on September 8th, 2009.
