It was very different to this experience, I will say,” Langley said, eliciting a laugh from the well-heeled crowd at the Kering Women in Motion dinner, held at the Place de la Castre high above the Croisette. “[But] we had the time of our lives. Mark Damon, who starred in the Vincent Price horror classic House of Usher and spaghetti Westerns before revolutionizing the foreign sales and distribution film business and producing features including 9 1/2 Weeks, Monster and Lone Survivor, has died. He was 91.
Damon died Sunday of natural causes in Los Angeles, his daughter, Alexis Damon Ribaut, told The Hollywood Reporter.
Damon spent the first 20 years of his career as an actor, including about a dozen as a leading man in Italian action movies, before he transitioned to the business side.
He had early success as an executive producer with two movies written and directed by Wolfgang Petersen: the German-language World War II drama Das Boot (1981), which received six Oscar nominations, and The NeverEnding Story (1984), a big-budget fantasy film that featured a Damon-commissioned score by Giorgio Moroder for non-German audiences.

"Alien" star Sigourney Weaver is headed back to space, but this time, instead of fighting off aliens, she could be befriending them. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Weaver is in talks to take on a role in "The Mandalorian & Grogu," the upcoming "Star Wars" film that will be directed by Jon Favreau.
While "Star Wars" has been pretty prolific on the small screen in recent years, the saga created by George Lucas hasn't actually released a new feature film since 2019's "The Rise of Skywalker." "The Mandalorian & Grogu" was officially announced in January of this year, after years of media focus spent on other potential Lucasfilm works-in-progress, including projects from Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins. Most of those projects seem to still be in the works according to recent reports, but "The Mandalorian & Grogu" is set to head into production first with a summer shoot scheduled,...

Plot: A spacey pool cleaner (Chris Pine) discovers a plot to steal water from Los Angeles during a drought.
Review: (Note – Poolman Was Reviewed At TIFF 2023) In the fourteen years I’ve been covering TIFF, I’ve seen only a handful of movies that I’d say were shockingly bad. The Mickey Rourke/ Megan Fox/ Bill Murray dud Passion Play comes to mind. Poolman ranks with the worst movies I’ve ever reviewed at JoBlo. It’s a stunningly unfunny comic noir vanity project for star Chris Pine, who also directed and co-wrote the film. That it was made at all is a testament to the power of celebrity, as it has already become notorious at the festival for the amount of walkouts taking place at the screenings.
So why is Poolman so awful? It comes down to the screenplay and Pine’s grating lead performance as a kind of...

Despite mostly positive initial reactions, Patty Jenkins Wonder Woman 1984 was widely panned by critics and fans alike when it was released, but the movie does still have its share of loyal supporters - and can count one of its stars among them.
After being killed off at the end of the first movie, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor returned under somewhat bizarre circumstances in the sequel for a reunion with Gal Gadot's Amazonian hero. In the end, Diana was forced to "wish" Trevor back out of existence in order to defeat Maxwell Lord (Pedro Pascal), and the couple shared an emotional farewell.
While chatting about his most iconic roles with Entertainment Weekly, Pine defended WW84, and said he believed the movie was given such a hard time because it focused more on "forgiveness and compassion" than the usual superhero fare.

Patty Jenkins Confirms Wonder Woman 3 Is Dead; Says DC Studios Are "Not Interested" In The Character
Despite Gal Gadot's insistence that she'll return as Diana Prince, all signs point to her time as Wonder Woman having ended. James Gunn has already cast a new Superman and is searching for Batman, so there's no reason to believe he'd keep the Dceu actress around.
The plug was pulled on Wonder Woman 3 pretty soon after DC Studios was formed as it didn't fit into their direction for the new Dcu.
That meant Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 writer/director Patty Jenkins was given her marching orders, and she confirmed the planned threequel isn't happening during a recent interview.
Asked if the movie has been scrapped, the filmmaker said, "Yeah, for the time being, but probably easily forever." Asked if another director would take her place, Jenkins responded, "No, they’re not interested in doing any Wonder Woman for the time being."

Chris Pine unarguably looks effortlessly perfect in every single role he dons, and the same was the case when he played the fan-favorite character of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise. Yet, as immaculately as he performed in this role that went on to win the hearts of fans from all across the globe, what’s surprising is that the actor actually never wanted to play him.

Although it may seem unbelievable to many, it is only true that Pine rejected the role of the beloved husband-material Steve — not once, but twice. But the reason behind his turning down the iconic part was only understandable because he felt like his character “sounded like a second fiddle,” and he, for one, had “no interest,” whatsoever “in playing the boyfriend” in a superhero movie.

As director Patty Jenkins confirms that Wonder Woman 3 was axed by Warner Bros, co-star Chris Pine has expressed his befuddlement at the decision.
Director Patty Jenkins, who made 2017’s Wonder Woman and its 2020 sequel Wonder Woman 1984, has confirmed that the third film in the series is essentially dead. And with the whole DC Universe now in the process of being rebooted by James Gunn, it’s likely that the whole timeline (and its characters) established by Jenkins has come to an end.
Chris Pine, who co-starred as dashing pilot Steve Trevor in Jenkins’ movies, has expressed his amazement that Warner Bros didn’t proceed with Wonder Woman 3 – a project Jenkins worked on for at least a few months before it was cancelled in December 2022.

With Gunn and Safran spearheading the Dcu reboot, it was announced that nearly all projects affiliated with the Dceu would be scrapped, with most of the original cast not reprising their roles.
This included the cancellation, or at least postponement, of the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise, including a planned third installment directed by Jenkins and starring Gadot as Wonder Woman.
Patty Jenkins opted out of directing ‘Rogue Squadron’ in favor of helming the potential third ‘Wonder Woman’ installment. Despite Gunn and Safran’s Dceu overhaul into the Dcu, there was lingering optimism from both Jenkins and Gadot for their return to the project, until its eventual confirmation that it wouldn’t materialize.

With Gunn’s and Safran’s reboot of the Dcu, came the news that pretty much all projects that were under the Dceu umbrella would be canceled and that almost none of the cast would return to reprise their roles.
Of course, that also meant canceling the ‘Wonder Woman’ franchise or at the least, a planned third movie that Jenkins was supposed to direct and Gadot return to star as Wonder Woman.
Patty Jenkins even walked away from directing ‘Rogue Squadron’ to direct the potential third installment. Even after Gunn and Safran rebooted the Dceu into Dcu some semblance of hope remained both for Jenkins and Gadot that they will return to the Wonder Woman project, until it was ultimately confirmed that this isn’t happening.

Patty Jenkins discusses the end of one project and the beginning of another as she gives an update on the status of her planned Star Wars movie.
Ever since the release of Wonder Woman 1984 back in 2020, Patty Jenkins has jumped from blockbuster project to blockbuster project, but without ever getting to the point of actually entering production. As such, we’re now four years on from the release of that film and Jenkins is still developing films to make.
While we’re hoping that her career doesn’t undergo a 14 year movie directing hiatus like the gap that exists on her filmography between 2003’s Monster and 2017’s Wonder Woman, it has been four years now where she’s moved from project to project as the tectonic plates of Hollywood have continually shifted beneath her.
There was a Cleopatra project with Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot that Jenkins was set to direct.

The DC Extended Universe we knew is a thing of the past now. After 15 movies in the office, the men in power of the franchise decided that things were not working out for the Universe. The Box Office returns and criticism from fans casting a lot of doubt about how things would pan out for the franchise that was once being touted as a competition to the MCU.
But it wasn’t meant to be. That also meant that a rumored sequel to WW84 would have to be scrapped. And Chris Pine had no qualms with that, for one peculiar reason.

Being one of the most beloved actors in the industry, his portrayal of Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman franchise came with nothing short of appreciation. Especially following the course of the first movie, his ultimate sacrifice touched the hearts of many, making it cruel to learn that his appearance in the sequel was next to nothing.

Although the first film had a lot going on for it, including the growing reputation of Patty Jenkins because of its success, a lot relied on the second film. Gal Gadot’s portrayal as the titular character was taken well, as was every other aspect of the franchise; up until the sequel. However, Pine has something different to say about the same.

Chris Pine co-starred alongside Gal Gadot in Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984, both directed by Patty Jenkins.
However, we learned that DC is currently not interested in doing more Wonder Woman films, at least at this time. DC Universe went through a major overhaul after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over, with only 5 original stars confirmed to return for future films.
Chris spoke out about the studio’s decision.

Chris told Business Insider, “I’m stunned that they said no to a billion-dollar franchise and decided to pivot elsewhere. I don’t know what the reasoning was behind that; it’s above my pay grade, but Wonder Woman is an incredible character; Patty is such a thoughtful director.”
He did add that he would not have been involved in the third film, due to his characters death. “Homie is dead. Steve is gonzo.

Chris Pine felt like more than a million bucks after being cast in “Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” — he felt like $50 million, to be exact. Not that he made anywhere near that sum.
During an upcoming appearance on NBC News’ “Sunday Today with Willie Geist,” Pine recalled how joining the 2004 sequel film proved to be a pivotal point in his career. Pine played Prince Nicholas Devereaux who tries to woo Princess Mia (Anne Hathaway) in her ancestral home country of Genovia.
“It was the height of summer and I was getting off at Magnolia. I was on my little Verizon tiny little flip phone, my silver one, and I got a call from my agents that I booked the job,” Pine said. “I pulled over onto the side of the freeway and they said, ‘You’re getting paid $65,000,’ and it was like they had just told me I’d made $50 million.

“The Fall Guy” costume designer Sarah Evelyn received the script long before Oscar nominee Emily Blunt was on board to play Jody, an aspiring film director. As Evelyn thumbed through the pages, she was attracted to the idea of how it felt like a classic movie with a prototypical underdog.
In putting Jody’s looks together, Evelyn began looking at ‘80s icons like Lauren Hutton and Brooke Shields. Then, she took stock of some famous female directors’ wardrobes.
“I looked at Kathryn Bigelow and Patty Jenkins, women who direct action. I took a good look at Greta Gerwig because she’s very of the moment,” says Evelyn. Other directors including Agnes Varda also popped into mind, and when Blunt signed on, she too came up with ideas. “She was really well researched and is costume-forward.”

There was no mention of it during Lucasfilm's splashy Star Wars Celebration last year, but The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first Star Wars movie released theatrically since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.
Arriving in place of The Mandalorian season 4, the hope is that Din Djarin and The Child can restore the franchise to its former glory on the big screen (with the Rey-led movie next up for Lucasfilm and James Mangold and Dave Filoni's efforts somewhere on the twin-sunned horizon).
We recently learned that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be released on May 22, 2026, and a shooting update has been shared today by Making Star Wars (via SFFGazette.com).
"I talked to two different cats, both believe that filming is actually going on in May for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu," they explain. "In May there will be filming done. I’m not saying it’s May 1st,...

Renowned for her acting prowess, Angelina Jolie almost portrayed the historical figure Cleopatra in a film, which was ultimately canceled. Following the disastrous reception of Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s 1963 film, numerous filmmakers have expressed interest in bringing their vision of the Egyptian queen to the screen.

Jolie was attached to one such project, with directors like David Fincher and Ang Lee also being involved before its cancellation. Brian Helgeland, the original screenwriter of the film, has recently provided insight into the canceled film, describing it as a love affair epic infused with elements like political thriller, assassinations, and romance.

Brian Helgeland has been discussing his script for Sony’s aborted take on Cleopatra which was set to star Angelina Jolie…
Cleopatra is one of those iconic figures that Hollywood seems perpetually interested in bringing to the screen again, even if the vast majority of these projects never seem to get anywhere.
One of the other nearly-ran Cleopatra projects was set to feature Angelina Jolie back in 2011. Writer and director Brian Helgeland has been chatting about his time on the project as the first writer to get a crack at the script. According to the director of Payback and A Knight’s Tale, it would have included some surprising events, apparently rooted in history:
“I was the very first writer on Cleopatra when it was being developed for Angelina Jolie to star in, which was almost made,” Helgeland said in an interview with Inverse.

Hollywood has been trying to get another Cleopatra movie off the ground for quite some time, and one of those iterations was set to star Angelina Jolie as the iconic Egyptian Queen.
Brian Helgeland was the first writer to take a stab at Angelina Jolie’s Cleopatra movie, and he shared a few details while talking with Inverse. “I was the very first writer on Cleopatra when it was being developed for Angelina Jolie to star in, which was almost made,” Helgeland said. “I don’t have anything to do with the current version unless they call me and want to use my draft.“
Helgeland continued, saying the movie “had elements of a political thriller with assassinations and sex,” but at its heart, it was an epic split between Cleopatra’s love affairs with Caesar and Mark Antony. “Lots of true events surprised me when I was writing it. For example,...

Angelina Jolie’s scrapped “Cleopatra” movie was part romance epic and part “political thriller with assassinations and sex,” according to the movie’s original screenwriter Brian Helgeland. The Oscar-winning actor was set to play the Egyptian queen in a tentpole for Sony Pictures that once courted director David Fincher to helm. It never got off the ground.
“I was the very first writer on ‘Cleopatra’ when it was being developed for Angelina Jolie to star in, which was almost made,” Helgeland said in an interview with Inverse. “It had elements of a political thriller with assassinations and sex, but it’s an epic that’s divided between her love affairs with Caesar and Marc Antony. “Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve has a lot of options for what he could make next, and one of them could be his long-gestating “Cleopatra” movie based on the Stacy Schiff novel “Cleopatra: A Life” for Sony Pictures.
Before that, however, some may remember the era when filmmaker David Fincher had a version of the movie set up at Paramount, circa 2012, that would have starred Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie (long before the competing Gal Gadot incarnation with Patty Jenkins and Kari Skogland).

Long live Queen Cleopatra, even if her film adaptations have been plagued for more than half a century.

Superman has always been the most hopeful and powerful hero, whether it is about DC, or Marvel. With the many adaptations of the Kryptonian hero, some get regarded as masterpieces while others die before they can even reach the surface. Adaptations find key elements that please the audiences and the DC Animated Universe is by far excelling the most in that.

For most directors, the art of filmmaking is an experience worth its weight in creative calories. For Alan Taylor, it was instead a harrowing one better left forgotten or chalked up as a bad dream. In hindsight, Thor: The Dark World wasn’t just a director’s worst nightmare but an agonizing ordeal for the audience who had to suffer through 112 minutes of a rotten piece of film that had no business existing within the realm of cinema.
Thor: The Dark World [Credit: Marvel Studios]In the later years, Taylor himself picked apart his Marvel project, proving there was no love lost between him and the Nordic God. But even Chris Hemsworth’s best efforts to preserve the sanctity of his leading role and Tom Hiddleston lending his Shakespearean expertise to the film’s drab plot couldn’t help make the final product any less painful for the Marvel fans.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu didn’t do well because it was too dark and the stories didn’t always make sense. People didn’t always like his choices. Eventually, James Gunn and Peter Safran took over with their Dcu. Some people liked Snyder’s style, but others thought it was too bleak and not true to the characters. Even though most people think the Dceu wasn’t great, it did bring out some really popular superhero movies lately.
One of the big hits was “Wonder Woman.” It did really well and showed there could be more stories about her in the Dceu. Then came the sequel, which came out during Covid-19 and did okay, but not as good as the first one.

Zack Snyder’s Dceu failed due to its darker tone, inconsistent storytelling, and divisive creative choices until it was ultimately replaced by Gunn’s & Safran’s Dcu. While some appreciated his vision, others found it too grim and disconnected from the iconic characters. Still, despite Dceu being mostly bad, according to general consensus it did give rise to some of the most popular superhero movies in the last few years.
Notably, ‘Wonder Woman,’ was a massive hit and opened a lot of possibilities for the character in the Dceu, soon after, the sequel followed, and released during Covid-19 it still managed to be somewhat successful but nowhere near the first installment.
Still, Snyder originally had very different plans for the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, in a project dubbed ‘Wonder Woman 1854.’ In an interview with Empire Magazine to promote his upcoming film, ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scavenger,’ the director also opened...

The first Wonder Woman movie found Diana Prince fighting in World War I, but the original idea would have found the Amazonian fighting in a much earlier conflict: The Crimean War of the 1800s. Zack Snyder previously shared an image from that possible project, known as Wonder Woman 1854, but the director recently spilled more details while speaking with Empire.
The Wonder Woman 1854 image Snyder shared over three years ago was rather brutal, showcasing Diana surrounded by various soldiers and holding three severed heads. “The idea of that was an early riff we were doing: once Wonder Woman left the island in search of Ares, what happened to her in her different incarnations?” Snyder said. “My idea for it was that she would travel around the world looking for Ares and she would go to every place where there was conflict.“

Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. In fact,...
