True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

FX’s “Under the Banner of Heaven” is the latest miniseries to explore the grizzly details of a real-life murder case, as television’s true-crime fascination continues to saturate Hollywood. Set in mid-1980s Salt Lake City, Utah, the story centers on devout detective Jeb Pyre (Andrew Garfield) as he unravels the mystery around the murder of a single mother, Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar-Jones), and her 15-month-old child.
What begins as a horrifying tale in a mellow, religion-dominated suburb soon gives way to the dark underbelly of Latter-day Saints fundamentalism and violence, leading Pyre to question his own faith as he investigates the Lafferty family’s history.
Below, TheWrap breaks down everything you need to know about the series prior to your viewing, including where and when to watch.

Yvette Monreal (Matador) and Christopher James Baker (True Detective) are set as series regulars in DC Universe’s upcoming Stargirl series. Details on their roles are being kept under wraps, described only as undisclosed DC characters.
Based on the DC characters, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore, played by Brec Bassinger (Nickelodeon’s Bella & The Bulldogs) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series.
Geoff Johns created the Stargirl character in 1999. The character was modeled on Johns’ late sister, also named Courtney, who was killed in a 1996 plane crash. The character has previously been portrayed on the screen by Britt Irvin and Sarah Grey on Smallville and Legends of Tomorrow, respectively. Johns is writing the first episode and executive produces.

The DC Universe just brightened — Brec Bassinger of Nickelodeon’s Bella & the Bulldogs will play the cosmic title character on Stargirl, one of the new TV series that Warner Bros.Digital Networks and DC Entertainment are banking on as they launch an ambitious streaming site aimed at superhero fans.
The streaming site — called DC Universe — launched Saturday and hopes to entice fans to pay $7.99 a month for access to comics, films and TV shows. Stargirl is expected to be among the high-profile offerings needed to propel the digital subscription model toward its heroic potential.
The show and the character are special to Geoff Johns, the show’s writer and executive producer, who until recently was chief creative officer at DC Entertainment. Johns rose through the ranks of DC Comics writers and Stargirl (aka Courtney Whitmore) was among the characters most closely associated with his ascent to fan-favorite status in publishing.

Weddings, more so than any other function, are fraught with fashion anxiety.
Long before the term "bridezillas" was coined, they existed, especially when it came to their gowns.
And even if the brides are calm, their moms or prospective mothers-in-law may not be. In Hallmark Channel's "Nearlyweds," premiering Saturday, Jan. 12, three girlfriends have five weddings among them in a very short time. Though the brides are, overall, even-tempered, one mother-in-law is a trial.
"I know why they charge so much for wedding dresses," costume designer Beverly Wowchuk tells Zap2it. "First of all they come in and try on umpteen wedding dresses. Then they come in with bridesmaids. Then they gain or lose weight just before the wedding. The service is why -- they charge so much for the service. I mean that is part of it.
"Brides are so nervous," Wowchuk continues. "A lot of them would try a minimum of five gowns.

It Wasn't very long after Tom Welling first appeared on our televisions as the teenage Clark Kent that fans started campaigning for him to play the next big-screen Superman.
Since then, Brandon Routh ended up taking the role in Bryan Singer's Superman Returns and Henry Cavill is starring in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, now filming and due out in June 2013.
Ten years later, in Smallville's 10th season, Welling has at last had his chance to put on the red and blue costume and take to the skies.
It means the journey is finally over for Tom's self-doubting young hero - and for the audience who have watched for a decade as he gradually embraced his powers and his purpose to become Superman.

Watching a boy become a man takes well over the 18 years that mark the official transition. Watching an alien boy become a man of steel is nine years in the making so far and is due to be wrapped up after one more year. In real life, there are many moments that define a person with a lot of mundane filler in between. The same can be said for this origin story that has slowly woven pieces of prior incarnations of our beloved Kryptonian into a completely new hero. Thankfully, the pace picks up in season nine as we inch closer to the climax.
Clark Kent, played by Tom Welling, is about to test for his brown belt in superheroism.
Executive Producers: Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson, James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola

The following is a special an nouncement never heard be fore in the Continental Us: I just saw a great Hallmark Channel original movie. Ok, I've said it and I mean it. "Freshman Father" is based on the true story of John Wand, an 18-year-old kid from Iowa who was about to enter Harvard on a full ride when he found out that his high school girlfriend was pregnant. Although the real story took place in 1970, for movie purposes, it has been updated to present times -- but it loses nothing in the transition.

Don't count out Chloe Sullivan yet. Allison Mack may return for the tenth season of "Smallville."
According to Entertainment Weekly, contract negotiations with Mack are already well underway. "Smallville" executive producer Brian Peterson has also said that he is “very optimistic” that Mack will remain with the series. “We’ve learned the hard way not to say [it's official] until everything is signed and dotted," added Peterson. "So the best we can say is we’re really optimistic. And so is Allison.”
Mack is the only original cast member who has stayed with "Smallville" throughout the entire nine-season run besides Tom Welling, who portrays Clark Kent.
Back in March, word emerged that one of the main characters from "Smallville" would be killed off in the season finale — which will also resolve the long-running Zod and Kandorian storyline. If Chloe can now be considered "safe," then Zod (Callum Blue) and Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman...

Talk about a loaded season finale! The CW’s “Smallville” will see the return of several familiar masked faces – Hawkman, Stargirl, Cyborg, and Black Canary will all be present at the “Smallville” season closer, entitled “Salvation”. Michael Shanks (“Stargate Sg-1”) and Britt Irvin (“V”) come back in their roles as Hawkman and Stargirl that made their first appearance in this season’s “Smallville” television event, “Absolute Justice”. Lee Thompson Young (“FlashForward”), who played Cyborg in two episodes of “Smallville” in seasons five and six in 2006 and 2007, will reprise his role for the season finale. Alaina Huffman (“Stargate Universe”) will return as Black Canary, who was last seen in an episode called “Doomsday” last year.

Earlier this week it was revealed that actress Alaina Huffman will reprise her role as Black Canary on the ninth season finale of "Smallville." However, she won't be the only superhero to return to the series before the end of the season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Hawkman, Stargirl and Cyborg will also be coming back in the season finale. Michael Shanks and Britt Irvin first appeared as Hawkman and Stargirl during the Justice Society episode of "Smallville" earlier this season.
Last month, Geoff Johns publicly stated that the Justice Society would return in the ninth season, confirming comments by Shanks last year that Hawkman could return as mentor for Tom Welling's Clark Kent.
Lee Thompson Young ("FlashForward") previously appeared as Cyborg back in the fifth season of "Smallville' before returning for the initial Justice League team up in the sixth season. While the character hasn't appeared on "Smallville" in nearly three years,...

On May 14, 2010, death will come for one of the CW’s “Smallville” characters. But who will it be? Rumor has it that a major character will bite the dust. Clark Kent should be safe, but who is on the chopping block? Let’s take a look at insider information from a practical standpoint, shall we?
Allison Mack is not signed for a contact for her role as Chloe next season as of yet and will appear in the season finale. Oliver Queen aka Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) is fair game. Hey, we didn’t think they’d kill of Jimmy Olsen, did we? Kristin Kreuk is currently in Vancouver, shooting something… ? Will she be Lana one last time? Michael Rosenbaum isn’t coming back to “Smallville” with his new show for SyFy, so Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman) is still fielding the Luthor fort. But what about what Doctor Fate saw...

"Smallville: Absolute Justice", the 2-hour, Vancouver-lensed CW special broadcast, combining two previously unaired "Smallville" episodes, attracted more than 2.8 million viewers, for the largest audience of the show's season.
The feature-length episode, showcasing 1940's superhero comic book team, "The Justice Society" earned good numbers in all categories, including adults 18-49, men 18-49, and adults 18-34.
Glen Winters directed the first hour and actor Tom Welling directed the second hour, connecting the unaired TV episodes "Society" and "Legends".
Created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville, the original 'Hawkman' debuted in 1940's Flash Comics #1, followed by several incarnations in DC Comics.
As a crime-fighter, Hawkman "fights the evils of the present with weapons of the past", while wearing large, artificial wings, attached to a harness made from the rare 'Nth' metal, enabling him to fly like an eagle.

This week marks a pretty big event for the gang over at Smallville as they encounter the Justice Society of America for the first time. Granted, this isn’t the first time other DC superheroes have made it onto the show, with characters like Green Arrow, Aquaman, Black Canary, and others joining in the fray from time to time. With all those characters making appearances in the past, there’s still something even more special about this week’s two-hour episode.
While this season has brought up some interesting plots including Braniac, the Legion, Metallo, and others, this coming event, written by Geoff Johns, seems to take the cake. From Kryptonsite:

"Smallville" returns to The CW Friday (Jan. 29) after a two-month-plus hiatus, but what we're really looking forward to is the episode after that.
That would be the two-hour "Absolute Justice" episode, in which Clark (Tom Welling) meets up with members of the Justice Society of America: Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Doctor Fate (Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Britt Irvin). The CW has released a teaser trailer for the two-hour event (Welling, incidentally, directed the second half); take a look.
Nice atmosphere, right? Per the network, Clark will uncover the Justice Society's old headquarters while he and Chloe (Allison Mack) are investigating a murder. Someone, it seems, is targeting former members of the group, and Stargirl is trying to convince her cohorts to band together again.
"Absolute Justice" airs Friday, Feb. 5.
