As a horror fan, my initial reaction to hearing Glee creators Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy’s next project would be a horror-themed series was something along the lines of, “Um, what?” Of course, the first season premiered to some surprisingly positive reviews, appeasing both horror fans and critics alike, not only creating a provocatively creepy vibe, but also presenting a story that kept viewers on edge week to week. That was Season 1 though – Season 2 is a completely different story.
No, seriously. American Horror Story: Asylum tells a completely unrelated story to the original season, setting up the anthology collection mentality that Season 3 would follow. Numerous cast members returned and Falchuk and Murphy certainly attempted to push boundaries once again – but this maddening story of psychological horror lacked the wit and flowing storytelling that made American Horror Story‘s inaugural season such a smash-hit.

After a season of television that promised absolute lunacy and madness, the title for American Horror Story: Asylum‘s finale seems quite fitting: Madness Ends brings closure (somewhat) to a season that has been all over the map. But with time comes growth, and there is an emotional aspect to this season that was sorely missing last year. You never realize how much you’ll miss some of these characters until they’re gone, and this final chapter in Briarcliff’s story brings the whole thing to a bittersweet conclusion.
In the quick intro, Johnny wanders around the abandoned asylum, lying in wait for the couple of lovers from the premiere to appear. In case you forgot what happens to them, Johnny gleefully takes an arm and leaves the man to bleed out. Ah, sweet memories.
We’re then taken back to 1971, when Lana sneaks into Briarcliff with a television crew,...

Season two of American Horror Story came to a close last night, and now that we know how things ended for Sister Jude, Lana Winters, Kit Walker and the rest of Briarcliff's brethren, it's time to begin thinking about what season three of Ryan Murphy's amorphous anthology will look like.
Much as he did with season one, Murphy scattered clues about his season three plans throughout the final few American Horror Story: Asylum episodes, but said that this year, "it's a different kind of clue," meaning it wouldn't be as overt as Psychic Billie Dean Howard's long soliloquy about paramagnetic grip (how evil can be absorbed by an environment, ie: an Asylum).

So ETonline scoured the final few episodes for clues, and have come up with some pretty good theories. Although, if I'm being honest, one stands heads and shoulders above the other.

While I've been ready to start handing out Emmys to Ahs: Asylum since the second we first laid eyes on Pepper (R.I.P., Pep!), I'd like to send a special shout-out to the makeup artists who aged Sarah Paulson 30 years for tonight's finale. Top-notch neck work on the elder Lana, you guys!
As you may have guessed, we finish the series in the modern day, as the internationally recognized investigative journalist Lana Winters, host of America Unmasked, sits down in her opulent New York apartment with a film...

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Well, not so much at Briarcliff, but Dr. Arden, Sister Mary Eunice and Sister Jude bring their own twisted holiday cheer to the asylum this year. Instead of a jolly ole St. Nick distributing gifts to the patients, a fabulous Ian McShane portrays a deranged bad Santa named Mr. Lee Emerson, who makes Billy Bob Thorton look like your sweet Aunt Mildred. A flashback shows Emerson, dressed as Santa, slithering from house to house killing families on Christmas Eve. Now at Briarcliff, the serial killer finds his other half in Sister Mary Eunice to create the darkest duo of all. McShane is certainly our favorite part of the episode as the larger than life killer, and he relishes every facet of his evil role. Really it’s all we wanted for Christmas. As Mr. Emerson says himself, “It’s all about the list,...

Sorry for the late post on this one, somehow i missed this wonderful news when it was first announced earlier in the week. For fans of the FX series ‘American Horror Story’ there was tremendous news this week. FX has officially renewed the series for a third season consisting of 13 episodes. Hit the jump for the official press release.
After This weeks phenomenal episode which really stepped up the game for Asylum, I couldn’t be more pleased with the announcement of the renewal. The new episode that aired on Wednesday i felt might of just put this season above season one in my book. With the huge reveal of who Bloody Face is, along with other key plot twists that were revealed this week (none of which i will get into for the sake of those who are not up to date) I can only imagine what Season Three will bring to the table.

The idea of creating a horror TV series that would change characters, themes, and actors every season was risky, but it paid off. The first episodes of American Horror Story: Asylum have been a big success for FX and they have officially announced that the series will be getting a third season.
Fans of the series will be happy to know that Jessica Lange is already on board for the third season, which will premiere in the fall of 2013. While there are no specific details about what we can expect from the story, the theme and characters will change once again. We can also expect season 1 and 2 actors to return, along with a cast of new characters. Here is the official press release:

We live in an era of more is more, from books to television to movies, the general consensus seems to be that, when it comes to the horror genre, showing viewers everything is the way to go. If it doesn’t shock, it isn’t scary, and the best way to scare is through the magic of special effects. Graphic is the name of the game and nobody seems to care if the audience ends up losing their popcorn halfway through the show.
I actually like quite a bit in the horror genre. A good scare, especially during certain times of the year, makes me inordinately happy. For the most part, while I may jump during core scenes in a given movie or TV show, it’s rare that the unsettling feeling lasts past the end of the viewing. Scares that stick with me are getting rarer and rarer. The...

Last week’s premiere of American Horror Story: Asylum left me with a lot to mull over. From Lana Winters’ institutionalization at Briarcliff Manor to Dr. Arden’s experiments on Kit Walker, there were many questions to be answered and new back stories to fill in. “Tricks and Treats” didn’t further the plot as much as delve deeper into characters introduced in the premiere and welcome some new terrifying patients to Briarcliff. We learn more about why Sister Jude is such a bitter, cruel person — she just wanted to entertain the troops! — and are introduced to psychiatrist Dr. Oliver Thredson (Zachary Quinto!). Ahs would never need an episode entirely dedicated to Halloween, since it always is such a fright fest. Still, “Tricks and Treats” had some particularly disturbing and sadistic moments for the holiday that left me clutching my pillow for dear life (go on, laugh), which is why...

After an excruciatingly long break (nearly 10 months), "American Horror Story" has officially returned with a brand spankin' new season, aptly titled "Asylum." The change in location finds us at the Briarcliff Mental Institution for the criminally insane, run by Sister Jude (Jessica Lange) and Dr. Arthur Arden (James Cromwell), the latter of who appears to be the big bad this season besides Bloody Face. And trust me, "Bloody Face" is a kind name to describe that mug.
The episode opened in present day, following lovers Leo and Teresa (Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan, respectively) as they wonder into the now rundown and presumably abandoned Briarcliff. Teresa is an avid paranormal/hauntings enthusiast and Leo just goes along with her so that they can do it in every single haunted place they visit. I have a strong feeling that playing Leo was not that far of a stretch for Adam Levine,...

Chicago – When we got to the end of FX’s excellent “American Horror Story” and nearly all of the characters were dead, a natural question arose — what the Hell do they do for season two? Welcome to “American Horror Story: Asylum,” a completely new tale with some of the same ensemble from the first season but a new setting, new characters, and new story but the same goal — to rattle your senses and put you on edge in the middle of the week. The first two episodes of “Asylum” are just as confident, fascinating, and startling as the first two episodes of “Ahs” last year. Sure, I miss Connie Britton & Denis O’Hare but the new cast members click immediately and, most importantly, the creative drive here seems the same, arguably even more determined to give viewers a ride they won’t find anywhere else.

While you’re anxiously awaiting the premiere of American Horror Story: Asylum, we have some casting news and details on the first episode which will give fans background on the serial killer Bloody Face and the Briarcliff Manor sanitarium. A killer and a mental hospital? Sounds like we’re off to a good start.
Another awesome addition: Ian McShane will be joining the cast in an unknown role. “Details on his role were unavailable, but Murphy noted on Twitter that the Golden Globe winner will 'tussle' with Jessica Lange's Sister Jude, one of the nuns who runs the insane asylum at Briarcliff Manor,” TV Guide reports.
The first five minutes tease out Bloody Face, along with some foggy woods, a few random dirty baby dolls and a very bad decision to “do it” in an insane asylum. Also, they use the word “bang” more in the first minute than...

American Horror Story: Asylum is kicking off like any great horror story should: A couple (Adam Levine and Jenna Dewan) sneak off into the woods to a haunted and condemned asylum to enjoy a little, ahem, private time.
But they may not be alone in Briarcliff Manor, which was formerly run by the Catholic Church. Among those once in charge were Jessica Lange's Sister Jude and Joseph Fiennes' Monsignor Timothy Howard, who had to keep the patients — played by Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson, among others — in line.
