The charitable foundation founded by Paul Newman is being sued — by the late movie icon’s own children.
People reports that two of Newman’s children — daughters Elinor “Nell” Newman and Susan Newman — have launched a lawsuit against Newman’s Own Foundation, seeking 1.6 million in damages to be donated to other charities.
In the suit, the siblings claim that the foundation has deviated from its original mandate since their father’s death in 2008, and no longer supports charities that were important to him, such as those benefiting the arts and environmental issues.

“The years since Mr. Newman’s death consist of a long and consistent pattern of disregard, by those in control, of Mr. Newman’s specific intentions and direction, coupled with mismanagement, scandal, and questionable practices,” reads the suit, which was obtained by People.

After exploring “The Civil War,” “Baseball” and “Country Music,” award-winning documentarian Ken Burns and his frequent collaborator Lynn Novick examined the importance of being Ernest Hemingway in their three-part PBS documentary “Hemingway.” Premiering in April to strong reviews and Emmys buzz, the series weaves Papa’s biography with excerpts from his fiction, non-fiction, and personal correspondence. The series also reviews the mythology around the larger-than-life Hemingway, who penned such classic novels as “The Sun Also Rises,” “A Farewell to Arms,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “The Old Man and the Sea,” to reveal the truth behind the bravado.
Feature film adaptations of Hemingway’s works had mixed results. Hemingway Bff Gary Cooper excelled in 1932’s “A Farewell to Arms” and 1943’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” receiving an Oscar nomination for the latter. John Garfield gave one of his strongest performance in 1950’s superb noir “The Breaking Point,” based...

Doris Day‘s life hasn’t always been as sunny as her chipper personality suggests.

“I’d like to deal with the true, honest story of who I really am,” she told Hotchner. “This image I’ve got … It has nothing to do with the life I’ve had.

Writer-director Shane Salerno's controversial two-hour "Salinger" documentary, which hits theaters September 6 via the Weinstein Company, debuted at the Telluride Film festival with a surprise Labor Day screening this week--to mixed reviews. See the Telluride press conference moderated by Ken Burns with Salerno and A.E. Even The Weinstein Company, charged with marketing Shane Salerno's nine-years-in-the-making documentary “Salinger,” wasn't able to suppress before release the film's biggest secret—that legendary author J.D. Salinger had five unreleased novels finished before his death, novels that his estate to are planning to release before 2020. Five new clips and a last-minute trailer have just debuted, showing that Salinger was a symbol that of which we only witnessed a fraction. Produced without the use of any archival audio or film footage of Salinger—because it simply doesn't exist—Salerno instead uses dozens of interviews to recount the many facets of the author, including appreciation from actors Martin Sheen and Philip Seymour Hoffman, as well as more intimate acquaintances such as A.E. Hotchner and Joyce Maynard. Maynard, an American author whom Salinger dated,...

A longterm friend of late acting legend Paul Newman has opened up about the star's final years in a new tell-all book.
A.E. Hotchner, Newman's close pal and business partner, has put pen to paper in Paul and Me: 53 Years of Adventures with My Pal, Paul Newman - which is due for release in March, 18 months after the star died, aged 83.
In the book, Hotchner documents the actor's rapid decline, and reveals how a bout of leukaemia in 2008 accelerated his demise.
A publishing source tells the National Enquirer, "Hotchner witnessed the beginning of the decline of Paul's health when he started to withdraw from commitments at age 80, announcing he was giving up acting because he could no longer remember lines.
"After celebrating his 83rd birthday in January 2008, Paul spiralled downward in the months that followed - and he had trouble breathing."
After undergoing lung surgery, Hotchner claims Newman contracted leukaemia and deteriorated quickly. The source adds, "Hotchner knew Newman was dying."
The author claims his pal died with just two regrets: missing the chance to reconcile with his drug addict son Scott, who died in 1978; and the fact that his father died before he became a successful actor.

Everyone's got their niche -- that little slice of the pie that they command -- but it's not often that this niche traverses a wide range of historical icons from almost every part of life. In the beginning one would never have imagined that Kirk Ellis, the man who jumped onto the scene with 1988's Nightmare at Noon, would soon enter the world of biopics, or that he'd get handed the reigns of some doozies.
After a run of easily forgotten fare, Ellis found his niche. He started with a television biopic on The Beach Boys, followed it up with The Three Stooges, Anne Frank, and Judy Garland (the last as producer). There was a bit of a lull after that (besides Into the West), but in 2008, the guy got his big-deal mojo -- that miniseries we all loved called John Adams. Now, it looks like the world is his oyster.

I love my Papa. (Well, I love my Papa too, but in reference to this post, I'm talking about everyone's Papa -- Ernest Hemingway.) And now he's getting his very own biopic! Huzzah! The Hollywood Reporter posts that A.E. Hotchner's biography Papa Hemingway: A Personal Memoir has been optioned by The Gotham Group and producer Kevin Fortuna.
This won't follow his war years, his newspaper days in Toronto, or his wives -- instead, it focuses on Hemingway's final 14 years, as told to and experienced by a friend. (Hotchner and Hemingway were close -- partaking in everything from childhood reminiscing to running with the bulls in Pamplona.) It'll also be something like a sequel, in that Hotchner also wrote the 1962 film Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man. Movies about writers have great potential to be boring-- all that sitting at a typewriter and pondering-- but something tells me Ernest Hemingway's biopic won't be that way. The Gotham Group has optioned the rights to a memoir about the bull-fighting, deep-sea-fishing, hard-living literary legend, who has been a fascinating historical figure for years and continues to intrigue even 50 years after his death. Hotchner wrote the book in 1966, not long after Hemingway's suicide concluded their 14 years of friendship. On a side note, Hotchner was also Paul Newman's partner in his line of salad dressings and snacks-- which means he's got a whole 'nuther memoir up his sleeve. Veteran of three wars, Pulitzer-winning novelist, journalist, womaniser, big game hunter and the kind of drinker to make Olly Reed look like Anne Widdicombe... it's safe to say Ernest Hemingway lived a wide-screen life. Which is particularly handy, with The Gotham Group optioning rights for a biopic and Papa potentially heading to our screens in the couple of years. The film will cover be based on A.E. Hotchner's intimate biography 'Papa Hemingway: A Personal Memoir', a New York Times bestseller that explores the final 14 years of the great novelist's life. Hotchner was close to Hemingway throughout that turbulent period - it was Hotchner's book that revealed the writer had committed suicide - so the film adaptation should be a faithful account. As the biographer says, "It is rare that we have such intimate, truthful knowledge about the life and, ultimately, demise of a true American icon."And what a demise.

Paul Newman, who combined Method training with matinee idol looks to become the personification of the cool '60s rebel in such iconic roles as the reckless Hud, the defiant Cool Hand Luke and the hotshot Butch Cassidy, died Friday. Surrounded by friends and family, including his wife, Joanne Woodward, the actor and philanthropist passed away at his farmhouse home near Wesport, Conn., after a long battle with cancer. He was 83.
In a film career that spanned nearly six decades, Newman received seven Oscar nominations before he was finally presented with an Honorary Oscar in 1986 "in recognition of his many and memorable and compelling screen performances and for his personal integrity and dedication to his craft."
But then he pulled out a trump card of his own, winning the best actor Academy Award the following year for "The Color of Money," in which he reprised the role of pool shark Fast Eddie Felsen,...

Concerns over the health of movie legend Paul Newman refuse to go away after new photographs of the star have been published showing the actor looking shockingly frail and in ill health.
Tabloid stories and speculation has suggested the veteran actor is battling lung cancer, prompting a recent media frenzy over Newman's wellbeing.
Close friend and business colleague A.E. Hotchner told reporters earlier this month that the star has "a form of cancer and he's dealing with it", before quickly insisting his words had been misquoted.
A representative for the actor also quickly dismissed the cancer reports, insisting the star was "doing nicely".
However, the Butch Cassidy star's ailing health seems to be increasingly hard to hide, as recent snaps show the star outside his New York apartment looking little like a shadow of his former self.
A source who saw the thin and pale star tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "It's so sad to see him like this."
Earlier this month, Hollywood supercouple Warren Beatty and Annette Bening offered their support to the frail star, with Beatty saying, "I love Paul and I just cross my fingers that he can deal with this."...

Latest: A friend and business partner of movie veteran Paul Newman has fired back at reports he has confirmed the actor is battling cancer.
A.E. Hotchner claims he was misquoted in an Associated Press article, in which he reportedly said Newman is battling "a form of cancer and he's dealing with it."
The angry writer says, "I saw him (Newman) last week and he seemed fine. I have no knowledge of any diagnosis."
"The Ap misquoted me. I have no knowledge of Mr. Newman being treated for any illness." Associated Press bosses are standing by their story.
Newman's health hit the headlines again at the beginning of the week when the Los Angeles Times newspaper reported the 83-year-old had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. A representative for the actor refuses to confirm or deny the cancer reports, stating only that Newman is "doing nicely".

Paul Newman is suffering from cancer, his business partner has confirmed.
Writer A.E. Hotchner, who helped Newman found the Newman's Own salad dressing company in the 1980s, claims the actor told him he was diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago.
Hotchner refuses to discuss what form of cancer Newman has, but claims the 83-year-old is undergoing treatment.
He tells the Associated Press, "It's a form of cancer and he's dealing with it."
Hotchner adds that Newman had surgery in recent years that "was certainly somewhere in the area of the lung".
But he insists the Oscar winner is fighting the disease: "He's battling. He's doing all the right stuff. Paul is a fighter. He seems to be going through a good period right now."
Rumours about Newman's heath problems began circulating earlier this year when a tabloid report suggested the beloved star and humanitarian had just six months to live and was under hospital supervision, but the actor laughed off the rumours, insisting his medical crisis was nothing more than treatment of athlete's foot and "hair loss".
Reports have continued at a pace, culminating with the Los Angeles Times newspaper claiming Newman has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.
This report prompted the actor's publicist to state Newman is "doing nicely". The representative refused to confirm or deny the cancer report.
