When is The X Factor on TV?
The show kicked off on August 29 - and in fact, in an attempt to avoid any clashes with Strictly Come Dancing, ITV bosses have unveiled the full schedule right from the off, so we know everything that's coming. Simon Cowell has blasted the idea that The X Factor should be "rested" for a while and said he's not worried at all about the show.
The music producer argues that to continue getting the massive ratings the show does after 10 years, cancelling the show would be the worst idea.
"If you said to any broadcaster now, would you like to rest a show that is doing nine-and-a-half, ten, eleven million every week, that is bringing in the group of advertisers you want the most, they would say 'you are out of your mind'," Cowell told The Mirror.
"They would never allow that to happen. If we were sitting here ten years ago and you said, 'How many years have you got?' I would have said if we can get to five we have done well.
"We are now at ten and I think that is the fact that...

The X Factor has already been going for a whopping 12 series... that's 10 more than Fawlty Towers or The Office managed.
The current deal with ITV expires at the end of next year, but should the show be given a break after more than a decade at the top?
Strictly Come Dancing has been spanking it in the ratings, while The Great British Bake Off gets a few million more eyeballs in the middle of the week.
Executive producer Richard Holloway has said that he is considering giving the show a rest, though he thinks "there is no reason why we can't produce it for years and years and years" after a pause.
Even former winners Little Mix agree that the show is "getting a bit predictable" and would benefit from a break.

Louis Walsh has spoken about the prospect of returning to The X Factor, after rumours surfaced that he would appear on the new series as a fifth judge.
While The X Factor has dismissed the rumours as mere "speculation", Walsh has confirmed that there is a "possibility [he] might end up on the show" after all.
When asked on Loose Women if he would be back, Walsh said: "Well I don't really know. Simon said the door was open to me months ago."
He added: "I talked to him last night. There is a possibility I might end up on the show.
"But I don't know for definite… I'd like to. I'm available."
Discussing whether he might feature in the live shows, Walsh added: "There is a possibility. It's up to Simon and I get on with him really well.
"I have worked with him for 12 years... We talk all the time.

The X Factor is branding rumours of a return from original judge Louis Walsh as "speculation" for now.
Walsh was reported by The Sun to have made a deal to come back as a neutral fifth judge alongside Simon Cowell, Nick Grimshaw, Rita Ora and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini for the upcoming live shows.
Sources told the newspaper that X Factor bosses reached the decision to bring Walsh back in a bid to boost ratings, especially as Strictly Come Dancing kicks off this weekend.
However, a spokesperson for The X Factor has since told Digital Spy: "The X Factor is one of the most watched shows on TV. It continues to draw millions of viewers each weekend with millions more watching on catch up. A total of 9.6m watched the opening episode including 2m on demand.

Could The X Factor be about to take a break? The show's big boss Richard Holloway hinted earlier this week that it might end up going on hiatus at some point.
"[X Factor] will have a finite life span," he said. "But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back."
Don't worry just yet - there's a contract for the show to continue until 2016, so it's a while until we're facing the possibility of an X Factor-free year. But is it a good idea for the series to take a break? Would it come back refreshed? Or would people forget about it and move on?
The show still gets some big ratings for ITV - even if they're a bit lower than they used to be - and how would the broadcaster even begin to fill all those hours that would be freed up by The X Factor's exit?...

X Factor producers are considering giving the show a rest for a few years to rejuvenate interest in the format, and one of the show's most successful winners, Little Mix, agree that it's a good idea.
The four-piece - who won the show back in 2011 with mentor Tulisa Contostavlos - said the show is getting "a bit predictable" and that taking it off screens for a few years means people will be left wanting its return.
"I think The X Factor is a brilliant show, but it has [been on] every year and maybe people will appreciate it more," Jade Thirlwall told Digital Spy.
"Like, you know when you split up with someone and then you get back with them and it's even better?"
Jesy Nelson added: "It's getting a bit predictable. You kind of know what's going to happen. Simon's going to go [raises hand], 'Give me another song', and all that.

X Factor could be rested for a few years before being brought back even stronger, its executive producer has claimed.
Richard Holloway spoke about the show's declining ratings during a Royal Television Society event in London.
"[X Factor] will have a finite life span. But I think you then rest it, then you bring it back," Billboard quotes him as saying.
"As long as we produce the show to a standard, which the public really, really wants to see... then there is no reason why we can't produce it for years and years and years."
He added that he has a really good "give-and-take relationship" with show boss Simon Cowell, though the two do not always agree and will debate things.
"Nothing is forever," Holloway said, while suggesting that the media is too preoccupied with overnight TV ratings data despite changing technology.
"Viewing habits have changed enormously, especially in the last couple of years.

The X Factor's executive producer has promised "exciting changes" to the show this year.
Richard Holloway suggested that producers are considering adapting the format and changing the judging line-up to attract viewers.
"There will be some exciting changes," The Mirror quotes him as saying.
"The name of the show will stay the same but we are looking at format and the judges. There will be some surprises this year. But I can't go into detail."
After revealing that discussions with last year's judges - Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh - will begin next month, he said that Cowell is the only certainty to remain on the panel.
"It is safe to say Simon is staying," he noted.
Holloway added that he feels changes are necessary to keep the show fresh after 10 years on air, and said that he "would love to beat" the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in the ratings.

Sharon Osbourne has spoken out about her feelings towards Dannii Minogue during their tenure as X Factor judges in 2007.
The 60-year-old - who returned to the show's judging panel this year - claimed that the singer was "unbearable to work with" and described how their relationship became "intolerable".

Life and work of Iain Banks to be honoured at 30th festival, with Salman Rushdie, Margaret Atwood and Neil Gaiman also featuring in two-week event partnered by the Guardian
The life and works of the late Iain Banks will be celebrated by close friends including Ian Rankin and Val McDermid in a special event at this August's Edinburgh international book festival, for which the Guardian is media partner.
"Scotland and the world were rocked by his death last weekend," said Nick Barley, the festival director. "We'd been planning a celebration anyway as we're marking our 30th birthday, and his first novel, The Wasp Factory, was out in 1984. I spoke to him many times about what he'd like to do. He wanted to be there – sadly he can't be."
Instead, the event on the festival's closing Sunday will see Scottish authors including Rankin, McDermid and Ken MacLeod looking back over Banks's 29-year career.

Tulisa Contostavlos has denied claims that she has been axed from The X Factor.
The N-Dubz star was previously said to be "gutted" and "embarrassed" after being told by producer Richard Holloway that she wouldn't return to the panel this year.
However, Contostavlos has told the Sunday Mirror that she is yet to discuss her future on the show, explaining that she wants to return for a third year.
"I still don't know yet, as like every year I don't find out until the month before. I've spoken to Simon via text messages, just general conversation, not about the show," she said.
"I love the show and I'm competitive. I always want to come back and fight. I'm a fighter. I don't care what people think.
"Honestly, I hear no evil, see no evil, I'm in my own bubble. I walk outside and I don't get anything but love, people asking for photographs and autographs.

Tulisa Contostavlos has reportedly been informed that she will not be returning to The X Factor.
The former N-Dubz singer is said to have had a meeting with show producer Richard Holloway on Tuesday (February 26), where she was told of her axe, according to The Sun.
She has allegedly told friends that she is "gutted" over being dropped after two series on the ITV show, especially after winning her first year with Little Mix.
A source said: "To say Tulisa is gutted is an understatement. She's a bit embarrassed to be on the scrapheap when she delivered with Little Mix.
"She's thrown away one of the most high-profile jobs in the industry as well as one of the best paid.
"But she simply wasn't up to scratch last year and Simon Cowell had no real option."
However, an X Factor spokesman claimed that they were just "reviewing the year" at the meeting.

Simon Cowell may have found someone to fill L.A. Reid's spot on "The X Factor" next season: pop megastar Rihanna.
Unless, that is, Rihanna would rather be part of the British "X Factor."
The report that Cowell has zeroed in on Rihanna comes from U.K. tabloid The Sun, so take it with however much salt you wish. A source tells the paper that Cowell will offer her a role as judge of either the U.K. or U.S. "X Factor" and thinks she can help boost ratings because of her stardom and the fact that she's "feisty."
"Simon loves these sorts of characters," the source says.
(The same source also claims Cowell "is thought to want" Rihanna's off-and-on boyfriend Chris Brown on the show too. Cowell's spokesperson shot that notion down.)

Louis Walsh has responded to allegations that last weekend's X Factor elimination of Carolynne Poole was a fix. Poole lost out to Rylan Clark after Walsh opted at the last minute to take the bottom two vote to deadlock. Fans complained about Walsh's actions and were annoyed that he was seen talking to exec-producer Richard Holloway during Poole's sing-off performance. Holloway and Walsh have insisted that they were talking about the running order for the judges' vote, but he only spoke with Walsh. Writing a diary piece for the Daily Mail about the incident, Walsh said: "I feel totally torn after Carolynne and Rylan's performances. I like them both. With Rylan I thought the production was so amazing that this is something we'll want to see again. "Carolynne is a great singer. My first instinct is to save her and (more)...

After initially saving Poole, Louis Walsh outraged the Take That star by changing his mind and going to deadlock, with Clark winning the public vote. Fans criticised the decision, with many suggesting Walsh was told to go to deadlock by producer Richard Holloway. Holloway has denied any involvement in Walsh's decision. Simon Cowell claimed yesterday that his decision to let Cheryl Cole go from the American X Factor judging panel was not a personal one, but it seems that she isn’t buying his claims.
Friends of the Promise This hitmaker have reportedly been talking to The Sun and claim that Cole has vowed never to be friends with or trust the music mogul again.
She allegedly told pals:
“Our relationship is over. I’m through with him.”
“If he thinks we are going to be friends he can forget it.”

“She wasn’t uncomfortable on the show. She was enjoying herself. No one complained at the time.
