(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Tuesday’s “This Is Us.”)
Malik (Asante Blackk) had just one job to do on tonight’s episode of “This Is Us,” and because he couldn’t do it, Randall (Sterling K. Brown) might find out that his birth mother is alive. If that doesn’t track for you, allow us to break it down.
At the top of the hour, titled “Honestly,” Deja’s boyfriend, Malik, arrives at Randall and Beth’s house in Philadelphia to accompany Randall to work, shadowing him for a day in the life of a city councilman. When they get to the office, Randall decides to give Malik the fairly simple — but very important — task of starting and stopping his daily livestream news bulletin on cue. Malik says he’s up for the job and kicks off the livestream Ok, but when his mother calls to ask a question about his infant daughter,...

Spoiler Alert: This story includes details about “Honestly”, Season 5, Episode 4 of NBC’s This Is Us.
Tuesday night’s episode “Honestly” may have been your last dose of This Is Us until the new year, but it certainly served up enough Pearson family revelations to keep us going during the break.
Amid the backdrop of a young Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore)’s clashing parenting styles, we learned more about the evolution of Kevin (Justin Hartley)’s issues, which loomed larger than ever in the present day as he battled criticism at work. Meanwhile, adult Randall (Sterling K. Brown) gave Deja (Lyric Ross)’s keen but exhausted boyfriend Malik (Asante Blackk) a shot at shadowing him at work for the day—what could possibly go wrong? And Kate (Chrissy Metz) unexpectedly revealed a long-buried secret.

In 2020 there was an uptick in Emmy nominees from historically marginalized communities compared with 2019 — mainly with Black actors and performers. In fact, Emmy nominations for Black performers set a record this year and, in turn, there was a record number of trophies given to Black performers. And when it comes to LGBTQ representation, Schitt’s Creek waved the rainbow flag proudly with nine wins total and made history by sweeping the comedy categories.
On the acting side, there were more than 30 people of color nominated, while actors who have openly identified as members of the LGBTQ+ community took in nearly a dozen nominations. On the hosting side, six people of color were nominated while seven people who identified as LGBTQ+ received nods.

They are the first father-daughter duo to win Emmys in the same year in the show's history.
"As a parent that's the most fulfilling that I could ever feel at the moment," Ron said, according to Deadline. Ron Cephas Jones and his daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones both claimed acting prizes from the television academy.

No, you weren’t dreaming: there really was a snafu when the winner for Best Drama Guest Actor was announced at the virtual Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on Saturday, September 19. Although the on-screen graphic crowned Ron Cephas Jones the victor for “This Is Us,” the off-screen announcer incorrectly read the name of his competitor Jason Bateman (“The Outsider”). But don’t worry, the TV Academy was quick to make it up to Jones, issuing an on-screen apology when the commercial break ended.

On Saturday night Ron Cephas Jones took home a second Emmy for his guest turn in NBC mega-hit This is Us, and it’s been a family affair, since Jones’ daughter Jasmine Cephas Jones also won an Emmy Thursday night, for her work on Quibi’s #FreeRayshawn, making them the first ever father-daughter duo in Emmy history to win in the same year.

Those tuned into the virtual Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday night on Fxx were surely puzzled when the announcement came for the winner of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. While Ron Cephas Jones was the confirmed winner for his turn in NBC’s beloved “This Is Us,” heading into its fifth season this November, the editor, and the voiceover, didn’t quite get it right. The awards announcer actually named Jason Bateman as the winner, for his performance in “The Outsider,” but the show meanwhile displayed a title card for Cephas’ win as William Hill in “This Is Us.”
The production team managed to correct the error with a card after the fact announcing that Cephas was, indeed the winner, and an announcement from the Television Academy with the correction was made in the virtual media center.
It wasn’t the first flub for the Emmys team on Saturday night.

Ron Cephas Jones extends his nomination streak to four this year for his performance as William Hill in “This Is Us.” Previously winning Best Drama Guest Actor in 2018, he and Sterling K. Brown are now the only actors to get nominated for all four seasons of the NBC drama. This time around, Jones is submitting the episode “After the Fire,” which involves Randall (Brown) imagining what his life would have been like had he saved Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). This includes the ideal version, in which a young Randall meets his biological father, William, who greets him kindly, and the worst-case scenario, where William dismisses him outright.
In the first hypothetical situation, we see William hesitant at first but ultimately warm and generous with his time. He gives young Randall his book of poems written specifically for him. He also agrees to get treatment for his drug addiction, integrates into the...

It’s not hard to spot familiar names on the drama side of this year’s guest actor and actress Emmy ballot, whether that’s Ron Cephas Jones in NBC’s “This Is Us” or Cicely Tyson in ABC’s “How to Get Away With Murder,” who have each recurred heavily over the course of several seasons. But on the comedy end, it’s a different story, with five of this year’s 12 guest actor and actress comedy nominations going to “Saturday Night Live” hosts or visiting stars alone — essentially, players who mostly pop in for one-off roles.

Reigning Best Drama Guest Actor Emmy winner Ron Cephas Jones could make history if he pulls off a repeat win for his role as William Hill in NBC’s “This is Us.” No actor has ever won this category twice for playing the same role. The only actor to ever win back-to-back Emmys in this category was Charles Dutton in 2002 and 2003 for different characters on “The Practice” and “Without a Trace,” respectively. Will Jones make history at the 2019 Emmy Awards?

Even death can’t keep a good actor down. Alexander Skarsgard was killed off at the end of “Big Little Lies” season one when his character, abusive husband and rapist Perry Wright, was chucked down a flight of stairs by Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz). But Perry lives on in flashbacks and video recordings that haunt his widow Celeste (Nicole Kidman) and mourning mom Mary Louise (Meryl Streep). Could Skarsgard actually win another Emmy in 2020 from beyond the grave? He wouldn’t be the first.
Ben Mendelsohn (“Bloodline”) was first nominated for Best Drama Supporting Actor in 2015 for his role as Danny Rayburn, the black sheep of his Florida family who is eventually killed by his brother (Kyle Chandler). He lost to Peter Dinklage (“Game of Thrones”) that year, but even though he was literally dead in the water, he was nominated again in 2016 when he recurred in flashbacks and fantasies during season two.

For the first time ever, you can now legally bet on the Oscars — as long as you’re in New Jersey. The Garden State is the first in the country to allow bookies to accept wagers on the Academy Awards, a practice that until now was verboten nationwide. There’s just one catch: You can’t put nearly as much money down on what will win Best Picture tonight as you could on something like the Super Bowl, with some sportsbooks capping individual bets at $500.
“We have customers who aren’t huge sports fans, but enjoy playing games like bingo or roulette with us,” Mattias Stetz, chief operating officer of Rush Street Interactive, told the Associated Press. “We believe a new audience may be fans of the Oscars and want to make their viewing experience even more exciting by placing a bet on their favorite movie.”

After years of speculation, we finally know for sure that Ben Affleck won’t return in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, meaning that Warner Bros. will be looking for a new actor to fill the cape and cowl. Over the past few weeks, numerous names have been rumored to be the next Bruce Wayne, including Jon Hamm, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jack O’Connell, Armie Hammer and Robert Pattinson, but someone who’s persistently been linked to the iconic role is Game of Thrones‘ Kit Harington.
So much so, in fact, that the English actor is now the odds-on favorite to land the part. British bookkeepers William Hill have slashed the price on Harrington being snapped up as the next Batman down to 6/1, following a run of bets earlier today. An insider told The Express: “Kit is clearly a very hot property and now that Game Of Thrones is over he is almost certainly available.

A William Hill betting shop is the site of a major cleanup operation in a new still from the upcoming Men in Black International.
When the first trailer for the sci-fi comedy dropped last month, the reception was unusually strong by reboot standards, and the biggest reason for that was undoubtedly the two leads. Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth already proved their chemistry in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, and for F. Gary Gray’s next feature, the pair reunite as Agent M and Agent H, seen standing amidst the wreckage in this new photo. Evidently, this is one incident that can’t be covered up with a quick memory wipe, and so the duo is assisted by several masked figures who survey the scene with some fancy-looking gear.

“Everything that William had done had already been laid down in season one and then he passed away, so it’s just more about continuing to be who William was,” actor Ron Cephas Jones says in an interview with Gold Derby about his continuing role on “This is Us” (watch the exclusive video above). Jones explains about playing cancer-stricken William Hill in flashbacks for the recent second season and upcoming third season, “When I’m doing the scene, it’s before I passed away, so it’s not like my consciousness feels like I’ve gone anywhere. Only the audience knows that; the character… doesn’t and so William is present.”

TV fans, we won’t blame you for getting chills if you see two ghosts floating up to the podium this year to accept their Emmys. Both Anthony Hopkins (“The Leftovers”) and Ron Cephas Jones (“This Is Us”) are contenders at the 2018 Emmys for playing characters who died in the first seasons of their shows. Hopkins is up for Best Drama Supporting Actor for portraying the dearly departed Robert Ford on HBO’s sci-fi series, while Jones is looking good for a nomination as Best Drama Guest Actor for his role as cancer victim William Hill on NBC’s family drama.
Hopkins received a lead nomination last year for “Westworld,” but his reduced screen time in Season 2 as the theme park creator’s virtual self prompted HBO to campaign him as a supporting actor.
