Currently in production, “Death Does Not Exist” is directed by Félix Dufour-Laperrière who previously helmed “Archipel” which won the Annecy Contrechamps Jury Award in 2021, and ‘Ville Neuve’ which had its premiere at Venice Days 2018.
“Death Does Not Exist” takes place after young activists fail an armed attack to overthrow figures of the establishment in their sumptuous villa. Helen freezes and abandons her accomplices. Manon, another
member of her group, returns to haunt her. The film’s voice cast includes Zeneb Blanchet, Karelle Tremblay (“The Nature of Love”), Mattis Savard-Verhoeven, Barbara Ulrich and Irène Dufour.
“’Death Does Not Exist’ deals with difficult subjects – violence, commitment, profound convictions – in a way that exposes their underlying tensions, outbursts, dead ends,” said Félix Dufour-Laperrière,...

Based on the experiences of the Smallbone family who travelled to Tennesse in the 90s, this is so sugary it should come with a warning for diabetics
Given the current attitudes in what is now largely Republican Tennessee where this film is set, it’s somewhat surprising to see such a sympathetic depiction of the travails of a family of economic migrants from the southern hemisphere who come to America seeking their fortune. Gullibly believing that the offer of a job is real and facing economic hardship in his homeland, the somewhat deluded father hauls his wife and six children (seven if you count the one the wife is carrying), across the border where they only just escape scrutiny from suspicious border guards. When the promised job falls through, the parents are compelled to put the underage children to menial yard work and cleaning jobs so that they have enough...

Family ties are an important theme explored in Netflix’s Sweet Tooth—and a recurrent one at that, given how all three seasons of the series took turns delineating the subject through different characters. Pubba and Big Man’s presence in Gus’ life was significant, as they became father figures to him. Similarly, Aimee Eden’s hybrid children had a happy and safe childhood thanks to the love and care their human mother had showered upon them. Through proper upbringing, these human parents had formed a strong character foundation for the young hybrid children, which allowed them to appreciate humanity and become better beings as well. In the third season, we see the other side of the spectrum through Zhang family issues, which clearly highlights how the toxic traits of families transfer through generations, be it in the case of humans or hybrids.

Griffin Naffly (an excellent Everett Blunck), the 14-year-old protagonist of Nicolas Colia’s surprising charmer Griffin in Summer, holds himself to the highest standards. The aspiring playwright chooses to tackle big themes in his dramas, one- to two-act showcases of marital rows and stalled dreams. An excerpt of his latest work, Regrets of Autumn, didn’t resonate at his school talent show, but Griffin doesn’t really care. He dreams of moving to New York (when he turns 18, of course) and staging his plays at the Roundabout Theatre on Broadway.
While Griffin’s classmates get drunk off hard seltzer and explore adolescent romance, the serious-minded teenager plots regional artistic domination. He partners with his best friend Kara (Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret‘s Abby Ryder Fortson), an aspiring director, to put on his divorce drama about an alcoholic woman and her unfaithful husband. Imagine Ernest Hemingway’s...

The program, led by Geena Davis and moderated by The Hollywood Reporter contributing editor Stacey Wilson Hunt, takes a unique spin on traditional comedic narratives by reimagining them with an all-female or gender-non-conforming cast. The event is set for June 14 at the Thaden Theater in Bentonville.
“I am thrilled to lead this program that reimagines all-male film narratives with an all-female/gender-non-conforming cast, leading to great humor,” Davis said. “It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase the power of storytelling through laughter and camaraderie. In Sweet Tooth season 2, we saw that “The Three” had risen to power after the chaos had spread throughout the entire world, and together, they sought to eliminate all the hybrids from the face of the Earth and become the masters of the new world. General Abbott, in the previous season, called a meeting as he believed that firstly, Dr. Aditya had a cure for the Sick, and secondly, he wanted to tell them about his project, which he called the Evergreen. Abbott had no clue that Aditya didn’t have the cure and that he was making a fool of himself by calling Dutch, Vox, and Helen Zhang for the meeting. He told them how he sought to create an establishment named Evergreen that would be no less than a paradise. Abbott also informed them that he had limited spots there, so he wouldn’t be able to accommodate everybody.

Sweet Tooth season 3 has finally been released on Netflix, and once again, we are made privy to the conflict that existed between the hybrids and the humans. As we saw in the previous two seasons, there were a bunch of humans who had formed an alliance whose purpose was to eliminate each and every hybrid from the face of the earth. These people believed that hybrids were responsible for the spread of the infection they termed the Sick. It was believed that Gus was the first hybrid that was created, and so the alliance led by General Abbott believed that finding him was the key to their solution. In the previous season, we saw that General Abbott and his army of Last Men perished, and Helen Zhang took charge of things. So, let’s find out what happened in Sweet Tooth season 3 and if Gus was able to find a cure.

When Marvel Comics decided to end the marriage of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson-Parker in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, the response from fans was overwhelmingly negative.
That was in 2007 and opinions remain largely the same. The publisher has teased the possibility of them reuniting (they even dated for a while), but it's become clear that their marriage will never be reinstated. On the plus side, Peter and Mj are married with kids in the pages of Jonathan Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man!
In today's The Spectacular Spider-Men #3, Peter and Miles Morales find themselves unknowingly trapped in their respective dream worlds.
In the latter's case, that involves dating Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel, but Peter's is far more noteworthy. Now married with children, we learn that his dream is to be not with Mary Jane, but Gwen Stacy.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for Yulin Kuang’s new novel “How to End a Love Story,” which was released April 9.
Yulin Kuang was deep into her romance-novel era before she released her own first attempt at the genre, “How to End a Love Story,” last month. The debut author, who has thus far spent her career focused on TV and film writing, actually started penning her book while in the middle of adapting two rom-coms by best-selling author Emily Henry: “Beach Read” (which Kuang will also direct) and “People We Meet on Vacation.”

The cast is bad, the story is even worse, and the scary vampire zombies do not look scary at all. They looked more like us after eating red popsicles, with the red drips smeared around our mouths. Yes, it’s that funny. The only hideous thing was their smudged makeup. That’s what I constantly thought of while watching Bloody Johann by Jakub Krumpoch. The story revolves around an old tale where Faust sold his soul by signing a contract with Mephistopheles with blood so he could be with a woman named Margaret. However, her family didn’t approve of their love, so Faust killed them all. Later, to take revenge, Margaret dumped their daughter Helen into the river. But little did they know, Helen survived. A father’s love is never-ending, so when Faust got to know about his daughter being murdered, he came back after all these years to seek revenge.

Actors as gifted as Jane Asher and Joe Wilkinson can’t do much with jokes about a failing guest house 40 years past their use-by date
A car door opens; the elderly gent in the driver’s seat has popped a pill for erectile dysfunction (brand name Super Stallion). He’s at his son’s guest house to scatter the ashes of his wife – and he’s brought along a date, a gorgeous young blonde (“she’s my carer”). The pill has worked its magic, so as the man gets out of the car, he reaches for a jacket to cover the bulge in his trousers. At this point you half expect a blast of canned laughter. But this is not a sitcom from 1986, even though the script contains the same tired gags and stereotypes that should have died long ago.

How do you like that? Orlando Bloom and I have something in common: we’ve both tried to erase Wolfgang Petersen’s Troy from our memories. Well, not exactly. While participating in Variety‘s “Know Their Lines” video series, Bloom drew a blank when asked about a line by his Troy character, Paris. Bloom thought the dialogue came from his Kingdom of Heaven character, Balian de Ibelin, or Legolas Greenleaf, his elven archer from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. To his surprise, the line came from Troy, a movie he’s tried to wipe from memory.
“Oh my god, ‘Troy.’ Wow. I think I just blanked that movie out of my brain by the way,” Bloom explained. “So many people love that movie, but for me playing that character was just like [slits throat]. Am I allowed to say all of these things? I didn’t want to do the movie.

Orlando Bloom has fond memories of making movies like “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Lord of the Rings,” but Wolfgang Petersen’s 2004 historical epic “Troy” is a different story. During an interview for Variety’s “Know Their Lines” video series, Bloom blanked on one of the lines said by his “Troy” character Paris (he thought it must be from “Kingdom of Heaven” or “Lord of the Rings”) and admitted that he has mostly blocked the movie out of his mind.

It's time to rejoice, cozy drama fans! All Creatures Great and Small, the British series about the staff of Skeldale House and their vibrant life in the Yorkshire Dales in the mid-20th century, will return for at least two more seasons, PBS officially announced in February 2024.
Both PBS and Channel 5 are slowly revealing more and more exciting details, including the answer to one of the most anxiously sought-after fan questions: will Tristan return to the series after his absence in the previous season?
Will Tristan Be Back for Another Season
The third season concluded with a heartbreaking cliffhanger as Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) decided to enlist in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps to prove his worth and contribute to his country's war effort. Although the series does not follow the book in every detail, it is worth noting that Tristan did not die in the war. The real Tristan,...

Yulin Kuang knows she hit the literary jackpot.
The writer-director, whose credits include The CW’s I Ship It, Hulu’s Dollface and Netflix’s The Healing Powers of Dude, is adapting Emily Henry’s People We Meet On Vacation for film and writing-directing the forthcoming Beach Read film for 20th Century Studios. Henry has became a household name in the world of romance, with devoted fans eager to see how her love stories translate onscreen — even going so far as to share dream casting choices, trying to find Easter egg clues that would tease anything of what’s to come and stoking rumors about a potential Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri casting thanks to a photo Henry shared on social media.
While it can be assumed adapting those stories might come with added pressure, Kuang understands fans’ anxiety over whether the adaptations will be up to par.

From the moment the very first trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi” on Netflix arrived, it’s become increasingly difficult to ignore that a certain type of Indian actress has passed into extinction.
Since the dawn of Indian cinema, music and dance have been integral to the movie-going experience, with extra emphasis placed on the “heroine” — a leading lady who could not only carry a whole film as an actor, but also captivate the audience as a graceful, expressive dancer. Think of Hollywood corollaries like Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, Doris Day — but if they were working well into the late 20th and even 21st century. It’s inherently wrapped up in India’s history of folk dance, which is always present at festivals or celebrations; and classical dance, which requires extensive training and was often a precursor to entering beauty pageants and the film industry. It’s been four decades since Samantha Baker bemoaned the fact that everyone had forgotten her 16th birthday amid the chaos caused by her wacky sister’s impending nuptials. On May 4, 1984, “Sixteen Candles” was released, the success of which prompted a string of hits by filmmaker John Hughes, launched the careers of several performers and inspired the glory years of teen movies in the 1980s. Read on for more about the “Sixteen Candles” 40th anniversary.
After the success of two movies based on screenplays he had written, “Mr. Mom” and “National Lampoon’s Vacation” (1983), Hughes was given the opportunity to direct one of his scripts. Up to this point, “teen movies” had largely evolved from cautionary “rebellion” films in the 1950s to the beach party films of the 1960s to slasher films of the 1970s to sex comedies in the early 1980s. Hughes wrote a script that truly reflected the life of an average teen,...

Here we are again, with another Lifetime release. This one’s called The Replacement Daughter, and it has everything that you would expect from a Lifetime thriller: a naive protagonist, cardboard characters, and an utterly stupid villain who gets apprehended by the end. But like always, it is very much watchable in a “so bad that it’s good” manner. That’s what life is for you!

Taylor Sheridan’s neo-western drama series Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner in the lead, became a runaway success with audiences and critics thanks to the actor-turned-writer’s sharp screenplay and story. Encouraged by the reception, the Veronica Mars star went on to create two prequels to the series namely 1883 and 1923, which traced the ancestry of the Duttons and the Yellowstone ranch.

1923 saw two veteran superstars Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren playing the central protagonists. In an interview, Sheridan spoke of the effort and detail involved in the production design of the series. When asked about comparisons to a James Cameron masterpiece regarding the colossal budget that was involved, the creator took the reference to another Hollywood epic to state his point.

Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western drama series Yellowstone was quite well-received by both fans and critics, especially after the first season. Its success paved the way for a slew of spin-offs. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show revolves around the Duttons family who must protect their property from outsiders all while dealing with internal conflict.

Yellowstone’s first spinoff was a prequel series, 1883, starring Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, and more. Following suit, “1923” emerged as another prequel, boasting an enviable lineup led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. When it came to coming back for a second season, Harrison Ford couldn’t be more excited. However, his enthusiasm was met with a stark comment from Taylor Sheridan.

Taylor Sheridan may not have much to show for his decades of acting career but slaving away at the Hollywood mill did teach him a lesson or two. He then used these lessons to bring Hollywood down to its knees. Churning out award-worthy original content, prequels, and spin-offs at an ungodly pace, Sheridan makes sure the studios perk up as soon as they hear his pen scratching the surface of a paper.

After suffering through an ordeal while securing a platform for Yellowstone, the director encountered and overcame massive obstacles in closing the series arc. His future spin-offs have been easier to pull off, but Sheridan once came incredibly close to losing his deal with Harrison Ford.

Then, the spoiler-filled aftermath as experienced by the unwitting editor attacked by this week’s recommendation.
The Pitch: After Dark but Make It for Gays of a Certain Age
When I was pressed into service for IndieWire After Dark, I hesitated all of five seconds before I screamed, “What’s the Matter With Helen?” at Ali. Partly because it’s a truly bonkers hagsploitation movie but mostly because I greedily grasp at every excuse to discuss Curtis Harrington’s examination of what the mothers of thrill killers Leopold and Loeb might have done with their lives after their sons’ convictions.

‘Unsung Hero’ Review: The Family That Prays Together, Plays Together in Uplifting Faith-Based Biopic
The heartrending hook behind “Unsung Hero” isn’t solely discovering how one tight knit family birthed two chart-topping contemporary Christian musical acts, although that is an interesting draw. It’s not necessarily learning how the Aussie expats survived a slew of hardships through togetherness and fortitude. The fascinating angle it adopts is similar to the way Steven Spielberg explored a tumultuous time in his childhood with “The Fablemans,” as Joel Smallbone (who co-wrote and directed with Richard L. Ramsey) also engages with family history, portraying his father grappling with financial and personal crises. The co-directors re-contextualize character-building circumstances, crafting a soul-stirring testament to the power of family and faith in the process.
David Smallbone (Joel Smallbone) is at the top of his game in early 1991. He’s got a great support system at work as one of Australia’s top Christian artist concert promoters, luring in such performers as the heavy metal hair band Stryper.

Titans of the faith-based filmmaking industrial complex they helped to create, Kingdom Story Company founders Andrew and Jon Erwin built their brand on the Christian rock biopics “I Still Believe” and “I Can Only Imagine,” ultra-benign stories of faith, loss, and profit that rely on powerful songwriting to compensate for sermon-like storytelling, and frame their subject’s artistic success as both a testament to their faith and a megaphone for the word of Jesus Christ. Absent the rigor or artistry of secular comps like “Love & Mercy” and “Coal Miner’s Daughter” (but also absent the Wikipedia-driven ghoulishness of more recent examples like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”), these movies are happy to function as feature-length commercials for the musicians they were made to honor, just as they’re happy to offer halos to the people who inspired them.

The month of April seemingly sailed by with far too many moderate releases, and the month ends this weekend with more of the same. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino returns with the sexy tennis drama “Challengers,” starring the powerhouse trio of Zendaya (“Euphoria”), Josh O’Connor (“The Crown”) and Mike Faist (“West Side Story”) as superstar tennis players who fall into a competitive love triangle. This is Zendaya’s first movie after “Dune: Part Two,” and it will be a real test for her as a box office star, since sports dramas can be hit or miss. “Challengers” really is riding on her popularity to avoid the pitfalls of the genre.

Who loves Zendaya? Show of hands? Well if you do, and Amazon MGM Studios is betting that plenty of 18-24 olds do, you can watch the Euphoria Emmy winner in Imax in Amazon MGM Studio’s Challengers this weekend, then sit around and watch her again in Legendary/Warner Bros’ Dune: Part Two.

There’s something about a doppelganger that feels uniquely cinematic. A person who looks like you, thinks like you, and maybe even lives like you has always been a subject of fascination and dread in literature and philosophy, a concept that raises questions about individuality and the collective. But on the screen, seeing the effect of one person mimicked and duplicated proves all the more uncanny and unnerving. Science fiction, horror, and a multitude of other genres have used duality as a means to terrify, unsettle, and provoke.
And then, of course, there’s the acting challenge. For an experienced actor or an up-and-comer alike, playing dual roles is the ultimate flex, a way to show your range in a single project. Whether playing twins or identical strangers, an actor who takes on a dual role has to manage the trick of being both an individual and a duo, of...
