David Garrett is stepping down as president of Summit International following the merger of Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment. Garrett will remain at Summit to assist in the transition. Lionsgate and Summit international divisions will operate as separate entities pending post-merger reorganization of the international executive structure. Lionsgate Film Group Co-Chairmen Patrick Wachsberger and Rob Friedman praised Garrett and said they “fully support his desire to pursue new opportunities.” Garrett has been with Summit since he partnered with Wachsberger and Bob Hayward when they took over Summit Entertainment Group in November 1993.

Exclusive: I have learned that editors of The Hollywood Reporter this month deleted embarrassing information about Summit Entertainment principals from a financial story about the studio's refinancing in order to "horse-trade" it for the cover story interview with Jodie Foster that appears in this week's print edition. No one is denying to me this occurred. But both THR and Summit agreed to keep the horse-trading secret. So much for real journalism taking place at that Hollywood media outlet under its new ownership. In fact, showbiz sources tell me that this incident is "just the tip of the iceberg" about what's going on there. So here's what happened in this case: THR's Alex Ben Block was writing a financial story about Summit Entertainment's recent $750 million refinancing and obtained some very pertinent information slipped him about what portion of a $200M distribution would be paid to the studio's principals and investors.

Saturday night at the Sundance film festival, Summit Entertainment reached another peak when co-chairmen Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger received the second annual Nielsen Impact Award.
Industry players in Park City for the annual fest gathered at Main Street's Cafe Terigo to honor the two men whose fortunes soared this year with ther release of the $300 million-grossing blockbuster "Twilight."
"We started this last year, and it was something incredibly sincere," said Hollywood Reporter publisher Eric Mika, who presented the award with last year's recipient, festival director Geoffrey Gilmore. "The award is the Nielsen Impact Award, which celebrates the impact that an individual has on the independent film community. We believe these are two gentlemen who not only work incredibly well together but built a billion-dollar industry and launched a franchise that never will see its twilight."

New York -- With its big fall release "Twilight" just two months away, Summit has beefed up its executive ranks with the hiring of Nancy Kirkpatrick as president of worldwide marketing.
The Paramount veteran had been consulting for the startup studio, but the hiring gives added heft to the company's marketing department, with Kirkpatrick conceiving and overseeing all campaigns for the studio's theatrical releases.
At Summit, Kirkpatrick will oversee a team of about 15 staffers; she reports to Coo Bob Hayward but with an informal dotted line to co-toppers Rob Friedman, with whom Kirkpatrick worked at Paramount, and Patrick Wachsberger.
Kirkpatrick spent the past seven years on the Melrose lot, most recently as executive vp worldwide publicity, overseeing campaigns for such films as "The War of the Worlds" and "Save the Last Dance." She left the studio in February.
Summit plans on releasing 10-12 movies per year across a range of genres.

Fledgling studio Summit Entertainment has hired Andi Isaacs to oversee the physical production of all in-house film productions, COO Bob Hayward said Thursday.
Isaacs comes from Walt Disney Pictures, where she was a production executive from 2004-06. Before that, she freelanced in different areas of domestic and international production. Her work includes National Treasure, Someone Like You, The Pacifier and There's Something About Mary.
"Andi is a great fit for us here at Summit," Hayward said. "She has extensive knowledge of film production and a great ability to head off problems before they occur."
Launched in April 2007, Summit has two movies in production: Get Some, directed by Jeff Wadlow, and Step Up 2 the Streets, directed by Jon Chu.

Summit Entertainment has appointed David C. Friedman as executive vp and general counsel and Andrew Matosich as executive vp business affairs.
The two legal eagles will both report to COO Bob Hayward, with Friedman overseeing all law matters and Matosich supervising business affairs. Each takes a newly created position at the independent studio, which launched in April, and will work from its Los Angeles headquarters.
Matosich is transitioning from his previous role as executive vp and general counsel of Summit Entertainment L.P. , the company which expanded into its current form as a film distributor. The exec elected to concentrate on business affairs following the company's expansion into new arenas in the film industry.
Friedman arrives at the company from Paramount Pictures, where he served as executive vp, corporate transactions and deputy general counsel. The executive handled individual and slate motion picture financing and co-financing transactions -- including equity and territorial co-financing and distribution deals -- tax and subsidy arrangements and acquisition, disposition and restructuring transactions.
